notable asian performance

chewy

I thought i'll start a thread to recognise any notable performance for all asian tennis players. They don't have to be well-known or they can be as popular as Paradorn, just post it in here! :D

There are so many countries in asia where tennis is just beginning to grow, I hope tennis will grow in asia and more ppl show support for the players. countries like Vietnam, Philippines, India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Kazakhstan etc.

i am nene, i dunno if im more sad for his situation or just dissapointed in Canas, i really hope he can be clear of d charges..but more than anything else i hope he is really innocent, i think ill never really know d truth watever his outcome. but u gotta hav faith, rite?

Nene
10-15-2005, 08:45 AM
mm... in fact, I dont think it's all his fault. just like someone said, the situation of Argentina is difficult. Not every player knows well about the medicine he takes. I think fed. should help players, not just give them suspension.. I still believe most of them are innocent, and I hope so.

chewy
10-16-2005, 05:19 AM
@nene, i agree, drugs in sport is a problem that needs help not just fines n suspensions.

some happier news, para had a sweet victory over davide and now he's in d final at Stockholm! :)

Yeah, when i heard the breaknews about willy, i nearly cried!!! he is so nice, and kind. and i trust him, he didn't do that. that'w a faults! The problem is on atp's side, not willy, just because he is Argentine ???

THAT'S UNFAIR!

im ok cindy, thz anyway.
i dont feel too strong abt it anymore, could be canas's misfortune, but watever happens happens. if canas is truely innocent i hope this make him stronger.

his bro is slightly taller but also short for tennis player, i think they hav similar game style but i think ollie's got more talent. ;)

Chewy, I just discovered that our two athletes (Taino and Mamiit ) who won medals on the SEA Games last year had decided to represent the Philippine flag on the ATP tour. Please see this link:

http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/entrysystem/Default.asp?RankDate=1%2F30%2F2006&range=1-50&country=Philippines+++++++++++++++++++&image1.x=11&image1.y=7

They are ranked 248 and 261 respectively. :) I hope time will come wherein a "homegrown" athlete of ours can breakthrough just even to the top 200. Can't hurt to hope right? ;)

chewy

they r too, this is great. talented asian players representing their own country again is most welcome.

it certainly can't hurt to hope, n i believe Mamiit has already been inside top 100 earlier in his career. now that they're representing philippines again i hope they can go even further. ;)

im wondering why http://asiantennis.com/ (official asian tennis fed) havnt update the ranking to include the 2 PHI players. thats where i usually get d info from n then post it here. let see by nxt monday if they'll update the ranking chart. because at the moment both of these players shld be in d top 10 asian rankings list

i think this is worth a mention, little known Mohammed Al Ghareeb from Kuwait definitely put up a good fight and a good show for the crowd in Dubai.

Kuwaiti wild card Mohammed Al Ghareeb reached the 2nd rd to setup a showdown against world no.1 roger federer. He managed to break roger's serve and was leading in the 1st set untill the world no.1 came back and pushed it to a tie-breaker. i'm really not sure, i think they still live in the US. but have decided to play for PHI in Davis cup n since then they have represented PHI. i think they prob wanted to change their representation a while back but it takes time to change the nationality they represent.

Personally im glad they changed back to represent their native country cos i think PHI need them more. plus asian tennis is growing faster recently and its perfect timing that they join the force, 'the asian assault':yeah:

yeh i've noticed his results have improved of late, so his game must be developing aswell. i havnt got any chances to see his matches tho, wat style of game does he play, like defencive, all round, serve volley?

so u know Go soeda in person? is ur email in jap or english?

No, I don't know him personally but I thought he played well, so I was checking the Internet to read about him and found he has a little website. I e-mailed him in English to congratulate him and he wrote back very quickly.

I cannot say much about his game as Mamiit was having a terrible day and Go just dominated him. In the 3rd set Go faltered a little and Mamiit got in a few points but then Go brushed him aside and went on to win.

I will for sure want to see Go play next year.

You should perhaps change your title to East Asians since you did not mention Indian, Pakistani players. I assume you then mean Orientals but Kedriouk is white so that does not do.

im not sure what u mean about not mentioning Indian/Pakistan players...the title reads MENS SINGLES ASIAN RANKING TOP 10 so only the top ten asian players for that week r listed.
India's got several players just outside of the top 10 atm, Bopanna, Rohan is at no.11.

A needed win for Lee today. He was on a 5-match losing streak against top 100 players and he had points to defend from those two challengers in India last year.

He is, by far, Asia's best clay court player. This year, he will make his first ever appearance at AMS Rome and it looks like he'll play all the major clay events. Can't wait to see how he does.

Great to see a player peaking at the age of 31. :yeah:

Bopanna-Qureshi duo triumphs again.
6th Aug 2007

Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan won the doubles title beating Michel Kratochvil of Switzerland and Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-6(9), 6-3 in the final of the $125,000 Challenger tennis tournament at Segovia, Spain, on Saturday.

It was a hat-trick of doubles titles for the third-seeded Indo-Pak combination following the titles at Manchester and Nottingham over the earlier fortnight. Bopanna and Aisam had first won a Challenger doubles title together in 2003 at Denver, U.S., but could not continue together on a regular basis as they were playing different tournaments most of the time.
