Olivas's record losing streak SNAPPED at 44!

Josh Olivas of the US brought his 44-match losing streak to a screeching halt last month at the qualifying of a 10K tournament in Mexico, beating a Mexican player 62 62 before getting whomped 60 60 in the next round by another Mexican.

Not to worry as Olivas has begun a brand new streak and extended it to 4 this weekend by losing the first 10 games and then retiring against South Africa's Roger Anderson at the Tulsa 50K challenger. Olivas can enter challenger and Tour event qualifyings because he has one doubles point on the ATP computer rankings, which he obtained after getting into the maindraw as a lucky loser (partnering Mashiska Washington) at a challenger in Korea. Prior to his victory in Mexico last month Olivas had not won a singles match since September 2003.

Did someone already post this or am I having deja vu?

I posted in July that Olivas was on a 42 match losing streak which is the longest known losing streak in the history of organized men's professional tennis. And two weeks later, wouldn't you know it, he broke the streak. I guess starting my starting that thread was "bad" luck.

I think someone posted that he broke it in that thread :p

This guy Robert Borshay attempted to play future's matches at age 55 and has lost two Josh Olivas 6-1 6-0 and 6-3 6-2, as well as only having ever one set.

That's two of Josh's 7 career wins right there. Borshay isn't anywhere near 44 straight losses though, is he?

The old man took a game off of Mardy Fish...

USA F20 Futures Qualifying USA
FU 20 Nov 1999 to 21 Nov 1999 Entry : DA Hard (O)
128 L Mardy FISH (USA) 1-6 0-6

Shameful performance from Mardy there.

Borshay was a lifetime 0-17, but props to him for trying to overcome the late start :)

 Saulnier was on course for a good run not that long ago (11). He should have asked advice from Vinny Spadea :tape:

Tough to travel so much to be slapped 6-0 or 6-1 first round. This guy deserves respect...

Oliva rocks me :rocker2:

I guess the word he has used more frequently through his life isn't " hello ", but " congratulations " :haha:

Doesn't sound so tough to me, because he obviously isnt under any pressure to win. The guy who deserves respect, is the guy who is PAYING for Olivas to travel around the world, to the tune of probably 70,000$ a year for the last five years.

gosh i think my parents could buy me some WC's as well... i'm a person who cannot play tennis at all :yeah: nevethless i'm so much into it and for so long time (to blame my right wrist  )
i guess 1 game is what he can take from Villagran as he's (Villagran) not too much in his best shape.
