Somebody on Google message board brought up this comparison of Fed and Sampras against some past players to declare that Federer is a chronic loser. I couldn't stop laughing at those idiotic messages.

Federer Sampras
vs Rafter 0-3 12-4
vs Kafelnikov 2-4 11-2
vs Henman 4-6 6-1
vs Enqvist 1-3 9-2
vs Rosset 2-2 4-1
vs Medvedev 0-1 6-2
vs Corretja 2-3 4-2
vs Carlsen 0-1 1-0
vs Siemerink 0-1 5-0
vs Spadea 1-1 4-1
vs Pozzi 1-1 4-0

See, we have "PROOF" that Sampras is better than Federer! :p

When did Roge play (most of) these people? When he is a teenager? Sampras plays them as a mature tennis player

Even so, take any top 10 player today and you will find a longer list of losing records against players who are on the verge of retirement or retired or against who they play when they are young

Exactly.. Well what do I know. I was thinking some of those posters were having a intellectual debate.. :) . May be we should give them h2h of Fed on Goron, Hewitt, Safin, Roddick..

I think the loss was a retirement after Andre won the first set.

Since we are ignoring the age factor, we have to ignore the injury factor. No, Agassi does not reach 'greatness'. ;)

And an extremely good one. How can one dig up Pozzi and Siemerink? The only poster here I can think of is GWH. :worship:

And here, my friends, is how to blow a nonsense theory straight out of the water:

Sampras Edberg
vs: Annacone 0-1 4-1
Berger 0-1 1-1
Bruguera 2-3 6-3
Giammalva Jr. 0-1 3-0
Haarhuis 1-3 5-0
Mecir 0-1 10-5
Noah 0-1 6-0
Rostagno 1-2 4-0
Schaller 0-1 1-0
Shiras 0-1 1-0
Van Rensburg 1-2 4-0

I submit that Sampras will not be fit to kiss Edberg's bootlaces until he and Sammy Giammalva Jr. both come out of retirement to even-up that head-to-head.

Absolutely! And don't forget his win over Sampras at Hanover in 1998 too.

I see that Alex has a winning h2h over Federer, and did you know that he is unbeaten against Nadal also? So you see, he could well be the greatest of all time...or at least one of the most underrated of all time... ;)

A better comparison would be Dominic Hrbaty the giant killer , who has played both Sampras and Federer in their primes .

Sampras is 2-1
Federer is 0-2

As a die hard Pete fan , i will tell you that I think Federer is playing just as good as Pete did when he won all those majors in the 90's . The only difference between the 2 players is that Federer makes it a point to win every single match he plays whereas Pete would only show up for the majors.

I also remember when Pete would win his slams , he would only surrender 1 to 3 sets at most . Pete only lost his serve once during one of his wimbledon runs .
