I kind of like Gasquettard though. :p

It doesn't have to be just one word. It could be a phrase. Anyone knows any puns the media has made of Richard's name? We could make use of these. That's where "#_ on the Federer Express" originated, I think (i.e. from the media).

Chloe le Bopper
09-24-2005, 08:24 AM
could only come up with "Gasquettard #_" but it's a little derogatory.

:haha:

Um, the only slogan I could think of plays off his last name, and it's rather rude, but so so obvious

Using the phrase "blow a gasket"... well, you do the changeup (gasket blower) and then assign yourself a number. I'm not going ot spell out ALL of my dirty jokes.

I will make it ot bed soon :p

Either I am too innocent to understand your dirty jokes or we don't use the expressions you are referring to over here.

Which part did I lose you at? The original phrase, my turning the phrase around, or the sexual inuendo that resulted?

I can spell my horrible joke out before bed, I suppose.

Starting with the original phrase would help.

Okay, I'll break it down.

There is an english phrase that goes "blow a gasket", which is the equvilant of saying "get really pissed off" or "get really angry and explode", etc. Now, from this you can create "blowing a gasket", which is basically the same thing. This is an awful pun that American commentators have been playing with since Gasquet came on the circuit. However, they, unlike me, have avoided taking that extra step and making it much worse than it ought to be.

So my suggestion was to turn the phrase around, and call yourself Gasket Blowers - or Gasquet Blowers. And you can all have numbers, just like the Fed people.

Chloe le Bopper

To a native english speaker, gasket and Gasquet sound similar enough that it makes for a bad pun to interchange them as such... especially since a lot of native english speakers will be prone to prononouce the "t" in Gasquet anyways.

Your english is dandy, though I didn't think it was your first language. I just assumed it wasn't based on where you said you lived, though I realize that was a bad assumption to make. Regardless, there are regional differences, so it was worth pointing that stuff out. Maybe people where you live aren't stupid enough to call him Gas-kett :p

I assumed you were male, but I don't know why you were assigned that particular gender. You just were.

Last time I told somebody that I thought they were a guy they were like "EVERYBODY SAYS THAT ALKJASLKDS" and I was like "whoa.... won't be answering THAT question again"

Well, we're supposed to be bilingual and have 2 first languages but admittedly, most of us are stronger in English than Mandarin/Malay/Tamil.

And believe me, a lot of people here would call him Gas-kett. I don't make the mistake only because I happen to learn French.

You must have written it somewhere before.

Richard fans are supposed to be teenaged girls. And me. Apparently you didn't get that email forward. For that matter, neither did Swiss Mister.

Not a hermaphrodite, a bisexual - since sexuality is what people are basing the gender assumtions on in the first place. Me, I've learned that such assumptions are of no use here in the world of internet tennis chat, where question for the day on wtaworld becomes "So who here is actually straight?"

With that, I'm to bed.

REALLY!

Well, like you said, people tend to think that Richard fans are all teenaged girls, rather than teenaged girls and homosexuals like Fonsie, so IMO, it's gender-based because everyone assumes that everyone else is straight.

For the record, I AM straight. :p

If you're Gasquetblowers, as you really ought to be, you can take the word to mean one of the following:

1) People who are very explosive in their passion for Gasquet
or
2) People who blow Gasquet. Just so you know, "blow" is a slang term in english used to mean "oral sex"

Really, I think that those two options sum up everybody's interests quite nicely.

Just want to say that I'm personally sorry if some things I've posted aren't always about his tennis. I do tend to go off track quite easily at time so I want to apologize for that.

I do this quite often too. That's not the problem. But what we should do is separate all the threads well so each time we go Off topic we can post somewhere else like "let's discuss about this in the Chat Thread instead!". That's why that's good we have a Chat Thread now! ;)

I'm currently working two jobs :p

I also have ADD and problems with organizing my time. If I go out all weekend and don't give myself a full day to get around to just writing out a schedule plan, nothing gets done :p

Chloe le Bopper

My jobs :scared:

My summer job is at a tea and icecream room. We serve lunch from 11-4 and icecream from 11-9. I used to waitress, but HATED it, so now I get stuck serving icecream and being the dish bitch (loading the dishwasher, putting them away, blah). It sucks. But I'm too loyal to quit when I know she's low on staff, and the place closes on October 2nd anyways. Only two more shifts of that left, thank God :o

My other job, which I've had for two years, is at the university library. Mainly I'm just supposed to charge out books and organize holds, but I end up having to field a lot of questions about how to find stuff and blah... typical library stuff.

Our library isn't administered very well. Even the fulltimers complain about that :o

Option 1 for me if that becomes our slogan... ;)

Thanks for the explanation. There is no equivalent for "oral sex" in French... I don't know how come the English-speakers say it cross the border and become "sex" when i guess that's just what the French speakers refer to it as very ostensible seduction or something...

Very ambiguous slogan i see...

I just realized i looked stupid posting that. Another problem with English...I'll get myself in very awkward situations because of that over and over again...
Because in French "oral" is an adjective mentioned only to express the notion of speaking... When you want to say "which as to do with the mouth, as a body part" you say "buccal". That's why i didn't understand. I assumed it was the same in English since the words are the same...
Of course there are loads of words and expressions to say oral sex in French but you just differentiate everything and say it as it is not using a regrouping elusive paraphrase actually... :p

Sorry for the coming back on my ridiculous mistake.

I've never been to a stage myself but i watch the mountains stages sometimes on tv. They will never loose their appeal. I liked cyclism but the doping problems are disgusting me from this "sport".

I know the end of the holidays problem... :( But like me you'll still be able to attend the quallies and the first three days which are in the 10 days holiday time (but you'll have to count the time you'll need to come back home so maybe not that much for you...). After the semis and final are during the week-end so maybe i'll be able to go if there are some places left and if i'm not too busy. I'll have to make my choice quickly.
Too bad about Monte-Carlo and Barcelona. When are your holidays? And why did they postponed them?

It changes every year between zone A,B and C. Especially for the winter holidays ( due to skiing traffic I think) and it's the same for the eastern holidays. Actually there are only toussaint, christmas and toussaint holidays that are the same for everyone. You should know that Delsa!!! Are you sure you live in France?

SwissMister1
09-25-2005, 08:53 PM
Yeah, that was a pretty wild match, it is too bad they cut off the first two sets though. I'm not sure why the chair umpire didn't get off his seat to check the mark on the questioned shot? I did like that he was wearing a formal suit with coat-tails though... more chair umpires should dress like that. :)

simpletennis
09-25-2005, 08:57 PM
haha, he did get out of his seat a fair amount of times. rochus really held in there though. i did think the ump was dressed rather nicely. i was like, is that the chair ump!? nice suit! haha. andy and the belgian coach had some words to say to each oteher.

SwissMister1
09-25-2005, 09:25 PM
The umpire had a very distinctive voice, too, I thought he was pretty cool until he completely blew that call...

The Belgian coach was really annoying me, he reminded me of a mix between a villian from an old vampire movie and the singer from the 80s music group Midnight Oil :)

Sinead here :wavey:

I'm happy the US won in Davis Cup. I was watching the tape of the Andy match on ESPN and wow. The match was so amazing until that point. I mean I feel bad for Belgium because they got cheated, but I'm still happy the US won (even though I would of liked to see Andy get the break on the 30-40 point instead). I think it was the linesjudge fault (and umpire) for coming so late to make the call and not checking the mark. On the main thread at the general message board, they are saying Andy called "out" before it hit. I personally didn't hear him call anything, but maybe I wasn't listening close enough.

simpletennis
09-25-2005, 09:59 PM
andy always plays fairly, last time he played a match on clay court earlier this year, his opponents serve was called out, but he said it was in, so they replayed it, and he eventually lost the match. but hey, it's not entirely his fault that the ump didn't call it

:wavey: I didn't hear anything from Roddick, either. I think he was just happy to get to rest while they debated the call... There was a fan in the crowd who yelled "out" on a ball a few games before that, though. Very interesting match. I would have liked to have seen the first two sets.

Well I *almost* ran into him, we didn't actually bump. And at first I didn't realize it was him until I started walking past and realize he was wearing credentials and then I looked up at his face and like whispered to the person I was with "I THINK THAT WAS GASQUET" but I wasn't 100% sure at the time, so I told Chloe, "I think Gasquet is wearing a yellow shirt, jeans, and sunglasses today" and then she saw him later watching another match and confirmed that it was him.

And yeah you can definitely bump into them. I mean, this was the first day of USO qualifyings, so he wasn't actually doing anything, and I didn't ask for a pic or autograph or anything because I can't even do that when I am sure of who the person is, I just get too shy. It's not just a thing with "celebrities" like, I just can't talk to strangers.
