Who is the most charismatic player in the ATP??
I'll go with Rafa.
I'll go with Rafa.
Charismatic???Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 10:18 AM Who is the most charismatic player in the ATP?? I'll go with Rafa. TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 10:26 AM Agassi is the first, just for his self-control and dedication he still puts in his game after all the years... then he's always had an aura, a little something that made him a big star from the begining... there might be some charisma somewhere. Safin is also charismatic by his looks, his size, and his honest personality Federer will be more when older, but still I think guys piss in their pants nowadays in the locker room before playing Fed. In the past, I thinks Sampras was very chrismatic, as well as Connors and Becker.... Kristen 09-22-2005, 10:33 AM Although I would probably pick some player with a very poor ranking, I'm going with Marat. He's a dag. I like dags. Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 10:35 AM I m surprised that Fed has 0 votes so far. I thought Fed fans considered him to be "Jesus." jtipson 09-22-2005, 10:42 AM I'm not a particular fan of his, but surely Roddick should be on this list. mdhubert - what makes you think Sampras was charismatic? I can't think of a word that describes him worse than that! Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 10:44 AM JTipson, no one on this board seems to like Roddick so I didn't put him in. I agree with you on Sampras, he was the most uncharismatic tennis player I have ever seen. oneandonlyhsn 09-22-2005, 11:19 AM I guess all the bashing in the other thread wasnt enough, you had to start another one  Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 11:23 AM I was wondering when JesusFed's disciples would show up? :D JonnyC21 09-22-2005, 11:23 AM Andre Agassi IS Mr Charisma, and I would add Guga to that list and El Aynaoui. Safin is humourous but normally looks pissed off in his interviews. Goran was a born showman as well. Puschkin 09-22-2005, 11:25 AM in my understanding of the word, there is no competition: Marat! TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 12:17 PM I'm not a particular fan of his, but surely Roddick should be on this list. mdhubert - what makes you think Sampras was charismatic? I can't think of a word that describes him worse than that! I think you're charismatic when you impose respect naturally, without doing gesticulations and controversy... for me Pete was charismatic, explain me why he was not... 1sun 09-22-2005, 12:19 PM marat, you just cant help loving the guy.he has his faults but is a great guy. even though that loss at aussie is still fresh in my mind i just cant help loving the guy. jtipson 09-22-2005, 12:38 PM I think you're charismatic when you impose respect naturally, without doing gesticulations and controversy... for me Pete was charismatic, explain me why he was not... Charisma: A rare personal quality attributed to leaders who arouse fervent popular devotion and enthusiasm. Personal magnetism or charm. I really don't think Sampras had these. He won fans through his game and ability to win, not his personality. Fergie 09-22-2005, 12:46 PM Marat ;) alexito 09-22-2005, 12:48 PM agassi of course, the most. safin??? always angry Julio1974 09-22-2005, 12:52 PM I guess I would pick Nadal. But Moya and Guga should be in the list. TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 12:58 PM Charisma: A rare personal quality attributed to leaders who arouse fervent popular devotion and enthusiasm. Personal magnetism or charm. You know I've often heard that in the locker room players were impressed by Sampras, he had an aura, we can call it "magnetism". Now maybe you know him better than the ATP pros, but I have my doubts. When a guy throws up in a 5th set tie-break and goes on to play with courage and determination, he can arouse "fervent popular devotion". Ask Djokovic what he would have done in this case... ClaycourtaZzZz. 09-22-2005, 01:07 PM Murray:) ~EMiLiTA~ 09-22-2005, 01:10 PM safin. jtipson 09-22-2005, 01:14 PM You know I've often heard that in the locker room players were impressed by Sampras, he had an aura, we can call it "magnetism". Now maybe you know him better than the ATP pros, but I have my doubts. When a guy throws up in a 5th set tie-break and goes on to play with courage and determination, he can arouse "fervent popular devotion". Ask Djokovic what he would have done in this case... No, of course I don't know Sampras, any more than you do, I expect. I'm sure he had a reputation in the locker room, but I think that came from his status as a tennis giant, not because people were drawn to him for his personal magnetism. I can't say I've ever read anything where other players were saying what a wonderful guy Sampras was, for instance. Sure, they pay tribute to his game, his dominance, his mental strength, but his charisma? Nah. I disagree that Sampras aroused fervent popular devotion. Agassi certainly has done, but sorry, Pete didn't in general. And I don't understand the reference to Djokovic. TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 01:24 PM his game, his dominance, his mental strength, but his charisma? If you play like crap and you're a choker there's little chance people define you as "charismatic", so charisma must be based on some of the stuff above, plus physical presence I think Sampras had with his bulky frame and honorable height. And I don't understand the reference to Djokovic. Djokovic recently took 5 medical breaks in one match against Monfils, while in Pete-Corretja match in 96' the umpire wanted to stop the match because Pete was obviously sick but the latter went on to play. Just a little joke and another ground on which you build charisma or... greatness. Now to end on a positive and consensual note, I find Agassi much more charismatic as I mentioned before (though it's not confirmed by the poll). jtipson 09-22-2005, 01:38 PM If you play like crap and you're a choker there's little chance people define you as "charismatic", so charisma must be based on some of the stuff above, plus physical presence I think Sampras had with his bulky frame and honorable height. Not true. Safin often plays crap and chokes, but quite a lot of people rate him as "charismatic". How about Ivanisevic, too? Sampras is only as tall as Tim Henman (although a little bit heavier build), so he really can't have been physically imposing to the average male tennis player. I guess we have to agree to disagree on this. :) rofe 09-22-2005, 01:47 PM I am a Fed fan but Marat definitely has more charisma than Federer. By the way, Fed has more charisma than Rafa. willie 09-22-2005, 01:47 PM Sir Carlos Moya:worship: liisa 09-22-2005, 01:51 PM el senor nadal, sin duda R.Federer 09-22-2005, 01:52 PM Have to go with Safin, quite easily actually But Roge is the next ;) Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 01:53 PM Well Agassi was always more popular than Sampras, even though Sampras was the top player. That does not seem very charismatic. Scotso 09-22-2005, 01:55 PM Nadal. Jimnik 09-22-2005, 01:55 PM Of the players on your list, Safin without question. I think Roddick should be nominated instead of (or as well as) Hewitt and, inspite of their low rankings, El Aynoui and Guga should be there. Alvarillo 09-22-2005, 01:56 PM Rafa & Marat Andre is a legend! PaulieM 09-22-2005, 02:06 PM the most charismatic is ivanisevic but my vote goes to roger from all the people on this list. Golfnduck 09-22-2005, 02:12 PM Andy and Marat. TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 02:13 PM Karlovic is the most charismatic by far... TheMightyFed 09-22-2005, 02:14 PM For me, Bjorn Borg was the epitome of charisma. What do you think ? jtipson ? Margy 09-22-2005, 02:44 PM Of those choices I went for Marat. But I would have picked Andy or Carlos over him if they were on the list. jtipson 09-22-2005, 02:52 PM For me, Bjorn Borg was the epitome of charisma. What do you think ? jtipson ? Yes, Borg certainly had something special :) Peoples 09-22-2005, 06:19 PM Agassi by far. People love him for his achievements, for his game but most of all for his personality. Then maybe Roddick, Gaudio and Grosjean. Skyward 09-22-2005, 06:24 PM Other- Davydenko, closely followed by Hanescu. CocoT_Do 09-22-2005, 06:34 PM yes marat onewoman74 09-22-2005, 06:38 PM Safin...that crazy bastard!!! its.like.that 09-22-2005, 06:41 PM Who is the most charismatic player in the ATP?? I'll go with Rafa. Charisma is the noun, charismatic is the adjective. Therefore the title should be "Charisma???" and not "Charismatic???" musefanatic 09-22-2005, 08:07 PM Safin is great the way he is always angry. I love watching his matches just to see him explode!! lilfairyprincess 09-22-2005, 09:55 PM ooo i dunno... safin..or possibly roddick (??)..even nadal is pretty charasmatic-yea i jus cant choose!! :) Rafa = Fed Killa 09-22-2005, 10:19 PM Thanks for the grammar lesson. I am an accounting student so I like numbers not words. :D roberta 09-22-2005, 10:21 PM marat!!!! he´s great!! ;) :D :yeah: mandoura 09-22-2005, 10:34 PM Angry, sweet, crazy, talented, handsome, tall, honest, nervous, ... whatever, Marat leaks charisma. He is Mr. Charisma personnified. mandoura 09-22-2005, 10:40 PM Charisma is the noun, charismatic is the adjective. Therefore the title should be "Charisma???" and not "Charismatic???" I don't see why. You can have a title made up of an adjective, specially that it is a question. You can say: Offensive??? Who??? Me??? You wouldn't say: Offense??? Who??? Me??? Titles can be made out of adjectives and not just nouns. mangoes 09-23-2005, 12:06 AM Andy should have been on this list. Rafa = Fed Killa 09-23-2005, 12:59 AM In hindsight Andy should have been included. He still has some fans left and his post match interviews are hilarious. Mimi 09-23-2005, 03:30 AM goran is the best  its.like.that 09-23-2005, 04:01 AM I don't see why. You can have a title made up of an adjective, specially that it is a question. You can say: Offensive??? Who??? Me??? You wouldn't say: Offense??? Who??? Me??? Titles can be made out of adjectives and not just nouns. I was waiting for someone to reply to this post. :p in this case, referring to who has the most charisma, I would've thought it more proper to refer to the subject as a noun rather than an adjective. but there is no set rule, and it gets the message across either way. :) Sandra 09-23-2005, 09:07 AM Safin!:yeah: LuckyAC 09-23-2005, 09:12 AM Roddick is the most charismatic off-court, although from on-court he looks unpleasant. disturb3d 09-23-2005, 09:47 AM Roger, Nadal and Hewitt don't even know what charisma means. This should be between Andre, Marat and Andy. joyk 09-23-2005, 05:02 PM Roger, Nadal and Hewitt don't even know what charisma means. This should be between Andre, Marat and Andy. Totally agree. When I saw Federer,Nadal and Hewitt in the poll I thought you were making fun of them. mandoura 09-23-2005, 05:22 PM Andy should have been on this list. Definitely. :) mandoura 09-23-2005, 05:23 PM I was waiting for someone to reply to this post. :p in this case, referring to who has the most charisma, I would've thought it more proper to refer to the subject as a noun rather than an adjective. but there is no set rule, and it gets the message across either way. :) Rafa = Fed Killa 09-23-2005, 07:23 PM Federer, Nadal & Hewitt don't know what charisma is? Then how come Nadal has the 2nd most votes, Federer the 3rd most votes. People in MTF seem to believe they are charismatic. Carolinita 09-24-2005, 12:14 AM maybe Rafa and Fed can be considerate as "charismatic players" (it's not my opinion even though) but Mr. Hewitt??? jrm 09-24-2005, 04:40 PM I could understand Agassi being charismatic 10,15 years ago but now??? And they said Sampras was boring!!! 1sun 09-24-2005, 04:43 PM Federer, Nadal & Hewitt don't know what charisma is? Then how come Nadal has the 2nd most votes, Federer the 3rd most votes. People in MTF seem to believe they are charismatic. people vote for their favorites. the question doesnt matter etiage 09-24-2005, 04:43 PM goran *Ljubica* 09-24-2005, 05:12 PM From this list I would choose Marat. Otherwise, it would have to be Goran in my opinion. Papakori 09-24-2005, 05:45 PM federer pinky 09-24-2005, 06:58 PM No one has really been charismatic on the atp tour since John McEnroe i think :) Rex 09-24-2005, 07:37 PM nadal or federer---- Rafa = Fed Killa 09-25-2005, 05:06 PM Rex I didn't want to do a Nadal or Fed poll because it would bring out the Ninja loving, Fed = Jesus Nadal bashers. purple_star 09-25-2005, 05:17 PM it's marat.. but i think too that carlos moya should be among the choices. :) star 09-25-2005, 05:40 PM You know I've often heard that in the locker room players were impressed by Sampras, he had an aura, we can call it "magnetism". Now maybe you know him better than the ATP pros, but I have my doubts. When a guy throws up in a 5th set tie-break and goes on to play with courage and determination, he can arouse "fervent popular devotion". Ask Djokovic what he would have done in this case... Wasn't the first time nor the last time Sampras threw up on the court. Some people think it was a ploy. star 09-25-2005, 05:44 PM As far as charisma goes I think there are several. Nadal certainly. He's had charisma from the first time I saw him even before he was sucessful. Guga radiates charisma. Andre has that star power too. I think Lleyton also has it. He just seems to have a spotlight on him when he plays. I think Federer has become more charismatic with his success. He now has a certain confidence and bearing that gives him an aura -- even on the practice courts. He didn't always have it though. pmhong 09-28-2005, 03:55 AM Totally agree. When I saw Federer,Nadal and Hewitt in the poll I thought you were making fun of them. And Andy has more charisma than those three? I am an American, but I just don't see more charisma fuming out of Andy. And Andre doesn't have the charisma of his younger days. Oh, and it is obvious by the result of the poll that Safin has the most charisma at this point. I would agree with that. missbungle 09-28-2005, 04:29 AM No one has really been charismatic on the atp tour since John McEnroe i think :) :yeah: Adman 09-28-2005, 06:00 PM I think one of the most charasmatic players on the tour has to be the double A, just to see his face when he wins a match, especially the Blake match, watching him jumping round the court with a massive smile on his face. Andre Agassi ALL THE WAY!!! chicky841 09-28-2005, 10:50 PM Im voting for Marat. I agree that Andy shoulda been on the list. I still would of voted for Marat, but andy should be there. You cant help but love marat, even when hes in a bad mood. Sjengster 09-28-2005, 11:04 PM Rex I didn't want to do a Nadal or Fed poll because it would bring out the Ninja loving, Fed = Jesus Nadal bashers. Coming from someone with that username, this is rich in the extreme. No sir, I'm genuinely interested in a charisma contest featuring the top players, I'm not trying to provoke anyone at all! PaulieM 09-29-2005, 12:22 AM No one has really been charismatic on the atp tour since John McEnroe i think :) i'm trying to imagine under what definition jackass mac would be charismatic. :scared: i think james blake is another player who is very charismatic. PaulieM 09-29-2005, 12:23 AM Rex I didn't want to do a Nadal or Fed poll because it would bring out the Ninja loving, Fed = Jesus Nadal bashers. as opposed to bringing out all those who see nadal as the second coming? Rafa = Fed Killa 09-29-2005, 05:02 AM No Nadal fan calls Nadal JC but a lot of Fed fans call Fed JC. Not sure how people see Nadal as the second coming when only Fed fans make Jesus comparisons. LCeh 09-29-2005, 05:23 AM If I am not mistaken, the whole JC = fed comparison was started by a non-Fed fan, and it was used to make fun of all the articles praising Roger. So I am not sure where you got the idea of JC = Fed as a compliment for Fed. Rafa = Fed Killa 09-29-2005, 11:52 AM My mistake if the above is true, but it seemed like Fed fans are proud of the parallel. So what do Fed fans call him. Ninja? Fed Express? Sjengster 09-29-2005, 12:55 PM Federer will do, I've heard he responds to it quite well. jtipson 09-29-2005, 03:49 PM My mistake if the above is true, but it seemed like Fed fans are proud of the parallel. So what do Fed fans call him. Ninja? Fed Express? "Roger", generally. And some Fed fans certainly don't like the Jesus comparison as it's disrepectful and even blasphemous. TheMightyFed 09-29-2005, 03:53 PM My mistake if the above is true, but it seemed like Fed fans are proud of the parallel. So what do Fed fans call him. Ninja? Fed Express? just a plain... MASTER Drimal 09-29-2005, 04:21 PM Marat Safin :rocker: tangerine_dream 09-29-2005, 06:24 PM My mistake if the above is true, but it seemed like Fed fans are proud of the parallel. So what do Fed fans call him. Ninja? Fed Express? The Fedtards call him ninja  The normal fans call him Roger, Rogi, Fed, etc. btw, I'll vote for The Man as most charismatic :rocker2: Sjengster 09-29-2005, 09:22 PM Marat Safin :rocker: Well, I only call him that on a particularly bad hair day. NiciSunflower 09-29-2005, 09:40 PM i voted for marat, can't beat him  | |
