Charismatic???

Who is the most charismatic player in the ATP??

I'll go with Rafa.

Agassi is the first, just for his self-control and dedication he still puts in his game after all the years... then he's always had an aura, a little something that made him a big star from the begining... there might be some charisma somewhere.
Safin is also charismatic by his looks, his size, and his honest personality
Federer will be more when older, but still I think guys piss in their pants nowadays in the locker room before playing Fed.
In the past, I thinks Sampras was very chrismatic, as well as Connors and Becker....

Although I would probably pick some player with a very poor ranking, I'm going with Marat. He's a dag. I like dags.

I m surprised that Fed has 0 votes so far. I thought Fed fans considered him to be "Jesus."

I agree with you on Sampras, he was the most uncharismatic tennis player I have ever seen.

Andre Agassi IS Mr Charisma, and I would add Guga to that list and El Aynaoui. Safin is humourous but normally looks pissed off in his interviews. Goran was a born showman as well.

I really don't think Sampras had these. He won fans through his game and ability to win, not his personality.

No, of course I don't know Sampras, any more than you do, I expect.

I'm sure he had a reputation in the locker room, but I think that came from his status as a tennis giant, not because people were drawn to him for his personal magnetism. I can't say I've ever read anything where other players were saying what a wonderful guy Sampras was, for instance. Sure, they pay tribute to his game, his dominance, his mental strength, but his charisma? Nah.

I disagree that Sampras aroused fervent popular devotion. Agassi certainly has done, but sorry, Pete didn't in general. And I don't understand the reference to Djokovic.

If you play like crap and you're a choker there's little chance people define you as "charismatic", so charisma must be based on some of the stuff above, plus physical presence I think Sampras had with his bulky frame and honorable height.

Djokovic recently took 5 medical breaks in one match against Monfils, while in Pete-Corretja match in 96' the umpire wanted to stop the match because Pete was obviously sick but the latter went on to play. Just a little joke and another ground on which you build charisma or... greatness.
Now to end on a positive and consensual note, I find Agassi much more charismatic as I mentioned before (though it's not confirmed by the poll).

Not true. Safin often plays crap and chokes, but quite a lot of people rate him as "charismatic". How about Ivanisevic, too?

Sampras is only as tall as Tim Henman (although a little bit heavier build), so he really can't have been physically imposing to the average male tennis player.

I am a Fed fan but Marat definitely has more charisma than Federer. By the way, Fed has more charisma than Rafa.

Agassi by far. People love him for his achievements, for his game but most of all for his personality. Then maybe Roddick, Gaudio and Grosjean.

Wasn't the first time nor the last time Sampras threw up on the court. Some people think it was a ploy.

As far as charisma goes I think there are several.

Nadal certainly. He's had charisma from the first time I saw him even before he was sucessful. Guga radiates charisma. Andre has that star power too. I think Lleyton also has it. He just seems to have a spotlight on him when he plays.

I think Federer has become more charismatic with his success. He now has a certain confidence and bearing that gives him an aura -- even on the practice courts. He didn't always have it though.

And Andy has more charisma than those three? I am an American, but I just don't see more charisma fuming out of Andy. And Andre doesn't have the charisma of his younger days.

I think one of the most charasmatic players on the tour has to be the double A, just to see his face when he wins a match, especially the Blake match, watching him jumping round the court with a massive smile on his face.
