In an article on bbc federer said the following

"Personally I would like to see the Davis Cup being played every two years, which would give everybody a much bigger chance to take part."

does anyone share this view or is it best kept every year

I would rather the championship was played over a 2 year span mainly due to the scheduling problems and nagging injury concerns that some players have. Some people are appalled when players decide to skip Davis Cup to focus more on their careers, and families but with the current scheduling I say :yeah: to them.

i doubt it will happen in the near future but i don't think it's a bad idea in principle.

Hmm Nop!
because It's a tradition in many places.. and also people can share & enjoy moments with their national players more than just an ATP event ;)

I don't see a reason for that!

Nice one genius that is your best ever post in this forum. :worship:

No, then again the Davis Cup is not just about the top nations, but it's easy to forget about those federations that pretty much get their cash from Davis Cup ties.

The only thing that should be done to it, is that it has 14 teams with the top 2 teams having a bye into the quarters, and those who lose in the QF have to fight for their place in the World Group in the next year.

Why are you so agitated?

Davis Cup gives a lot of money to the ITF every year so i don't think it will happen

I have given my reasons as to why it shouldn't happen, you think it's bullshit. There we've come on agreement and agitated I don't think so.

GWH, I think you may have missed the smileys. I know what you think on the subject so hence the joke.

I don't think your reasoning is bullshit at all. It's completely valid. I see it differently, that's all.

Smileys I am still getting used to them and as I said we completely disagree on this issue, then again one sees a small picture and the other doesn't.

Smileys are good. :) Yes, we disagree and I won't go into that last statement. :)

Much as I usually agree with GWH  - I am not in agreement on this occasion. In my opinion, DC would be better every 2 years - or even every 4 like the World Cup Football.

Is it me, or does davis cup lack the appeal of a international country sporting event. I think this is maybe because it is every year. Would be better to have it every 2 years or even 3/4. Maybe that would abit of buzz to the event.

I have been to a lot of Davis Cup ties in different countries and yes you know it's an international event.

You don't see 200 Argentines dancing around and chanting very loudly at a tournament when Coria or Nalbandian wins a 1st round match, like they did when they won away from home this year and there are many other examples of it being an international event.

Just cause what happens in the UK, USA doesn't mean it's the norm for other countries when it comes to Davis Cup.

Keep DC as it is in terms of how often.

I think the rules of home/away ties should be changed, I mean GB have had to put up with a sixth away tie in a row and it's not fair at all. We won't make the WG for a long time because most of the teams we played at home last in the 70s and 80's.

It's done on a rotational system and it's fair and no one is disadvantages with this in the long haul. It wasn't the fault of the rules that Ecuador beat the UK on grass.

Perhaps, but there's too many sides we would play away next, I mean the Swedes haven't been at home in ages either, but some nations i.e Australia get to play at home like every time.

Well France won the DC without having a home tie, so these are just weak excuses blaming the system and it's very simple as to why it's like this. If they draw Austria again it will in the UK, there are seeded teams as well, but it's the luck of draw and the home/away system is fair.

I don't agree.

I think it would be better to have the World Cup (the one who is played in Dusseldorf, on clay, every year) to be played every 2,3 or 4 years, but in different countrys, dates and surfaces, not always in dusseldorf, clay and the week before roland garros.
