NHL Preseason YTD: 0-0 (Even)

Well it's probably not smart to bet preseason but I never once said I was smart. Been following every teams transactions from the start of the signing period to make sure I have a solid basis on each and every team. Preseason will be extremely wacky as new players will have to mesh and players will need to adjust to the new rules. It will be hard to get a read on teams at first but I think in preseason and early on in the regular season I think we'll be able to fine good value and make some good money on hockey. Best of luck to everyone!!!!!

Friday

1* Carolina Hurricanes (-150) Over Washington Capitals

This bet includes OT & Shootout. Carolina has made some subtle moves this off-season after losing stars Jeff O'Neill and Ron Francis. The Hurricanes went out and signed Cory Stillman, Ray Whitney, Martin Gerber (Expected to be #1 goalie) and Oleg Tverdosky to join the Hurricanes roster full of young stars such as Vrbata, Williams, Staal and Vasicek. For this home game Carolina is donating the money to the American Red Cross. The Capitals this season resemble an AHL team and not even a good one at that. They brought absolutely no one in with the exception of some fill in pieces. There big off season acquisition was signing there draft pick from a couple of years ago Alexander Ovchekin. Although he is a huge talent he won't be featured for there first two preseason games. One of the few decent signings for the Capitals Andrew Cassels was dealt a huge blow this past week as he was struck by a puck in the face and will miss most of training camp. Washington has brought alot of youngsters to training camp and alot are expected to feature tonight. Carolina is expected to put there top lines out tonight and in front of there own home crowd I think they'll be able to come through.

* Also thinking about taking Phoenix Over Minnesota later but right now I'm just going to stick to this one.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Still waiting on some news for a couple of the other games so I might have one more for Saturday. Best of luck to everyone!!!!

Saturday

1* Buffalo Sabres (-153) Over Washington Capitals

This bet includes OT and Shootout. Capitals were embarrassed last night by the Hurricanes losing 6-0. 4 of the 6 goals for the Hurricanes were via the power play. Washington was said to have looked lost out there as the team played with alot of youngsters. Capitals will play pretty much the same team in this game at Buffalo. The Sabres were one of the quietest teams in free agency only bringing in two defenders in Teppo Numinen and Toni Lydman. However they did lose there two top players in Zhitnik and Satan. There is some cause for optimism though as the Sabres do feature some very young talented players. Overall there are alot of dogfights in camp and the players are said to be playing quite well early on. Just about every line and every spot is up for grabs for this Sabres team so every game and practice is crucial. Not sure what type of team they'll throw out tonight but either way it should be sufficient. In net they have 3 guys in Biron, Noronen and Miller who are all quality and are all fighting for the two spots. I don't expect another 6-0 game here but the Sabres should have enough firepower to take out the Capitals.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Sunday

1* Atlanta Thrashers (+112) Over Montreal Canadiens

This bet includes OT and Shootout. According to the Canadiens website they'll probably throw out alot of young players for tonights game. The Canadiens are set at the starting goalie position but are still trying to find out if any of there young goalies can fill the backup slot so I would expect 1 if not 2 to get thrown out there tonight. Thrashers scored 6 goals but fell short in there comeback against the Flyers in the first game of preseason losing 8-6. Overall though the Thrashers put together a solid performance from the mid 2nd period on where they outplayed the Flyers. Expected to sut up in this game for the Thrashers will be new players Marian Hossa, Bobby Holik and probably a significant amount of players who played in that first game. Expected in net is finnish goalie Kari Lehtonen. Just think this is a good price here for what seems like a better offensive team.

1* Toronto Maple Leafs (-124) Over Ottawa Senators

This bet includes OT and Shootout. Really couldn't find any information on either squad here but at the outset I like the Leafs. You probably won't see too many of the Leafs new players here as they are all aged and one hit away from there season being done (Lindros and Allison). Ottawa lost some key pieces in the off season so I still would like to see what they can do against more established teams.

1* Los Angeles Kings (+119) Over San Jose Sharks

This bet includes OT and Shootout. Kings opened up preseason last night with a 4-2 win over the Ducks. Great play from Frolov and Roenick as the two lead them to the easy win. Once again it's hard to get any information for both of these teams. Both teams have some talented players but I'll give the Kings the advantage in this one. Only thing that bothers me is the Sharks overwhelming advantage in net with there two goalies Nabokov and Toskala.

Monday

1* Pittsburgh Penguins (-122) Over Columbus Blue Jackets

Includes OT & Shootout. We get the first look at the revamped Penguins. Should be fun as they are a talented bunch. Columbus opened preseason on Sunday losing to the Hurricanes 3-2. Just think the Pens feature more overall talent and there goalie depth is better.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Damn Pittsburgh blew a 2 goal lead.

Final:

Columbus Blue Jackets 3
Pittsburgh Penguins 2

Tuesday

1* New York Islanders (-120) Over New York Rangers

Includes OT and Shootout. Homer play here as I'm a diehard Isle fan and I absolutely hate the Rangers. Well there is some reasoning behind this play. The Isles will basically be playing there entire starting team. With the exception of a few youngsters the Isles will feature all newcoming players and all young studs. Isles made a bunch of moves in the off season. I think there overall depth is very solid. Huge grudge game here but I think the Isles are the more talented of the two teams.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Wednesday

1* Pittsburgh Penguins (-117) Over Boston Bruins

This bet included OT and Shootout. Pittsburgh will be looking to bounce back here after blowing a 2-0 lead in there opening preseason game. Boston got manhandled last night by Toronto losing 5-0. Back to back games shouldn't bode well for the Bruins here.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Thursday

1* Philadelphia Flyers (+120) Over New Jersey Devils

This bet is to win in regulation. Flyers have been extremely impressive and have had more preseason games under there belt. The Devils have faced two undermanned teams in the Isles who didn't play with there full lines and the Rangers who are just weak to begin with. Just a good line in this one for a win in the first 3 periods.

1* Ottawa Senators (-111) Over Pittsburgh Penguins

This bet is to win in regulation. The Senators are another team who've put things together quite nicely in the preseason. Pens are still trying to find themselves out. They'll be have a few players out for this game as Lemiuex, Malone and Tarnstrom. Pens will also shake up all there lines with the exception of the Crosby-Recchi-Leclair line. Sens at home with full lineup and confidence at a good line, I'm willing to take the shot here.

Good Luck to All!!!!

Friday

1* San Jose Sharks (+100) Over Pheonix Coyotes

This bet is to win in regulation. San Jose is undefeated this preseason with a 6-0 record outscoring there opponents 20-15. San Jose kept there team intact from last season keeping there core of young and talented players together. One of the main reason for there early success is the fact they've been able to stay out of the penalty box and there solid goaltending between Toskala and Nabokov. I'm pretty sure you'll see a full lineup of Sharks in there tonight as they want to finish out the preseason undefeated with just two games left. It's been a rocky start for Gretzky as head coach this fall. His Coyotes are just 1-5 in preseason being outscored 30-15. Just a solid price here for the Sharks at home to win in regulation. I just think they have a more solid team right now.

Sunday

1* Pittsburgh Penguins (-120) Over Washington Capitals

This bet is to win in regulation. Last game of the preseason for both teams. Pittsburgh has burned me a couple of times this preseason. Alot is expected of them and they haven't shown much so far. Pittsburgh will be at full strength with the exception of Odelein, Roy and Poapst for this game. They are starting the same team that will play in the first game. Washington is expected to rest players as they've brough up some guys they've sent to the AHL. Sykora will be making his first start for the Caps but Ovechkin will be out. Washington played last night and blew a huge 5-1 lead in the 3rd period before losing in OT 7-6. I look for a full strength Penguins team to get themselves on track before the season starts.

Good Luck to All!!!!
