Safin pulls out of Thailand Open

Russia's Marat Safin has withdrawn from next week's Thailand Open in Bangkok because of a knee injury.
The injury forced the 25-year-old to pull out of the US Open and his website says he will not be competing until he has fully recovered.

However, Australian Lleyton Hewitt has confirmed he will be taking part in the event which starts on 24 September.

Title holder and world number one Roger Federer, Tim Henman and home favourite Paradorn Srichaphan are also playing.

The BBC are getting slow in their old age. Besides, it's not next week, it's the week after.

He is out of AIG Japan Open, too. I can post the article or start a new thread about it, but the article is in Japanese...

I thought Marat WAS playing Tokyo but I s know better... so are we EVER going to see him play again this year? He keeps delaying his return. Surely he'll be good to go in Madrid?

"I look very forward to playing at the AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships, for the first time in my tennis career. I understand that the tournament is a great one and I hope that my performance in tennis will be successful, so that you, my Fans will enjoy watching me participate in the event in Tokyo, Japan.I visited and played in Tokyo once before during a Davis Cup tie and look forward once again to the great hospitality of your country. I am sure that with the support that you will all extend to me when I play my matches, I will be able to bring my tennis level to new heights."

This comes from the official website today, as being a personal message from Marat.

It was taken from AIG Japan Open site. I guess the "personal message" is out of date.

I know. The exact same message has been also posted in the AIG Japan Open site, too. All I know is that Marat's withdrawal from the tournament in Tokyo has been reported only in Japannese media in Japanese language. Fans in Japan are sad that he isn't coming and they are talking about it in their forums... So far, I haven't found anything about his pulling out from Tokyo in English language...

I can post this Japanese article here if you want... ;)

I miss Marat :(

However, this gives him a chance to not only heal up and recover, but also to hopefully cut the 'fro he has going.
