Andy in Cincinnati

if Andy feels like it, he can win back to back TMS. his draw open up tremendously. Moya's out, Agassi withdrew, the only top 8 seed left in his section of the draw is Coria, who will pretty much lose to Tim Henman, if not to someone else. go Andy go:bounce:

C'mon Andy, accomplish the difficult task of winning back to back Masters.

lol @ "if Andy feels like it, he can win back to back TMS" ...if it was only that easy

08-11-2003, 11:56 PM
I love it when those in denial have to accept he's
won more quality matches than anyone else.
He doesn't have to play in 50 places to have a
high ranking! I hope he doesn't get too stressed
out by expectations and outside know what I mean.

08-12-2003, 06:43 AM
Coria didn't lose to Henman. But, well, maybe he's not as good as on clay. Yes, I agree, the draw's looking pretty good.

08-12-2003, 07:22 AM
Andy could make the final. Schalken has beaten him in the past, but I think the last time they played, Andy won pretty handily. Also Ljubicic has beaten him as well, but I think if Andy is still in Canada form, he should come through that section.

I guess we should wait and see how it pans out, but I like his chances. If he can somehow go 11-1 in Canada and Cincinatti, that would be incredible.

I'd rather he make an early exit here as long as he wins the US Open. But of course he's gonna make at least the semis here.

Nice thrashing of Ljubicic which could have been a tricky match....

BLAKE also could be tricky but Andy should win :D

The way James has been playing the last two rounds, especially the way he played against Sjeng, James could trouble Andy. Andy should win as long as he continues to be solid and steady from the backcourt and not make loose errors.

08-13-2003, 10:11 PM
James has to run real fast and return that serve.
You know what happens when James exhausts himself.

Gonzo Hates Me!
08-13-2003, 10:29 PM
I know James will lose! Sometimes you see players and you're like, uh oh, but then when they step up to the plate, it's like they forgot how to play or they are no match for today's opponent as opposed to yesterday. Unless Andy freaks out because he's playing his good friend, there is no reason why he shouldn't kick his lil' 2-year Harvard, Rasta ass!

Oh, my, I am sorry, did I say that... surely I didn't mean any of that

Gaudio Troll
08-13-2003, 11:06 PM
Surely not!

It's amazing for me to have a player I like actually doing well

James will chip and charge on Andy whenever he can is my guess. Andy might want to keep his passing shots in good order. ;) He played pretty well against Ivan today.

08-14-2003, 06:29 PM
I think he could win it, he had an amazing match in the second round and I think he will win his second TMS this year

Andy defeats James 7-6(2) 6-2.

James looked amazing in the first set and was threatening Andy's serve a lot. I thought James was gonna win the tiebreaker cuz he was holding his own service games a lot easier.

08-15-2003, 01:30 AM
Nah, Blake had no shot in the tiebreaker, but I thought he would win the set before that. He was outplaying Andy. Blake, however, gets really anxious in situations resembling tiebreaks.

Anyway, great smart play from Andy. Well fought and won. :)

I missed much of this highly touted first set, so ho hum. You know us girls, shopping at stupid moments. And I missed some precious moments of my Reichen & Chip on the Amazing Race.

Anyway, great stamina Andy!!!!!!!!!! All the way, all the way!!!

08-15-2003, 01:44 AM
Dammit! Every week I say I'm going to watch "The Amazing Race," and every week I forget!!

Go Andy's stamina! ;)

And also...that first disputed Shotspot could not have been of the point where Andy called it out. I find that impossible.

Gonzo Hates Me!
08-15-2003, 01:53 AM
I think there is one last episode next week Hurley! It's so scary to watch sometimes... because it's hard for me not knowing whether or not Reichen & Chip will be around next time. But they always seem to prevail in the end, no matter what their predicament

That first disputed shotspot... it's pissing me off. But I think everyone has attended tourneys, and/or has played tennis, and has seen it's very easy to not be able to tell

There WAS a bad call

But it's bullshit to say that's why he won. Good job Andy. Zabaleta/Saretta is going strong still so he'll definitely be the better rested person tommorow :)

These couple of posts that I read from another forum are quite interesting....

mmmm - 07:13pm Aug 14, 2003 PDT (#9 of 10)
I think Roddick lied and had a conscience breakdown. His face looked weird afterwards (during the interview); he never looked like that after a win--Ever before. What do you want, it's tennis. It's just the feeling I got.

cabbage - 07:22pm Aug 14, 2003 PDT (#10 of 10)
Agree, mmmm. He complimented James a bit too much...

This match shows a lot about what makes a 'champion' - and talent and skill are just part of it. Part is the able to maintain focus and drive throughout a competition, and these are related to a desire to win.

According to this theory, Roddick = Gilbert = Agassi = Sampras = McEnroe = Becker etc. Different personalities, but all wanting badly to win each time out (and all talented).

Blake = Todd Martin = Rafter = some others. They all care(d) as much about the contest, the spirit of the match and their own sportsmanship as about winning. Were Martin different, he would have at least one Major title considering he's been in ...three finals. Rafter would have at least one Wimby.

Repeated focus also builds confidence, and that's what Roddick has lots of.

If the Shotspot was correct, then Andy 'saw' the ball in because he wanted to. His display was definitely intimidating and may have affected Crist. Blake probably reacted as much to Roddick's reaction as anything else.

08-15-2003, 02:41 AM
Oh boy, not another "hand" incident ;) :p

How long will this one take to die down? 10,000 posts or so?

I hate when people act as though one point decides an entire match.

 you guys! I love to be in the company of such objective, open-minded people...
NOOOOOOOOOT! Y'all suck, j/k

I think it's like what Hurley and jackson have said, and Hurley, I didn't understand at first when you said this because I'm really slow and stuff, but I agree that they must have been showing the wrong shotspot shot for the point that had taken place. There's no way that Andy and the ump could be THAT stupid

Andy killing his opponents now. he moves on to the semis witha very comfotable 6-1, 6-2 victory over Zabaleta. now he gets Mirnyi. he can win it or not, personally i dont care if he wins or loses, because with this, he has remianed #4 and gets a #4 seed at the US Open, and moves VERY close to the top players in the race. vamos Andy, kick some ass

Wow--Andy in the final now after defeating Max 7-6(5) 6-4!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy guys!!! WOW WOW WOW!! Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO FUCKING HAPPY! Man, this is good. So many people are just eating his shit, how sweet!

Oh, and the funniest moment of the match, definitely when Andy the clutz fell just standing up! Hahaha!

Tomorrow, he will play either Schuettler or Mardy. I hope it's Mardy in the final because I want an all-American final, but everyone will whine some more about his dirt easy draw (even though I beg to differ). So I wouldn't mind seeing Schuettler, bring on Schuettler! It's time to settle the score, and Andy will, as soon as he gets to play him!

08-16-2003, 06:06 PM

Great job, Andy. Good luck in the final :D

08-17-2003, 04:09 PM
It was great, but it's like Rafter only making 4 ue's that one time. They just don't grade serve and volley points the same way. There's rarely an error on a passing shot or on the return of a volley.

But still, it was a very clean match from both guys. Good stuff. I was glad to see Andy come out of that one. I thought he was toast in that tiebreak. That was miraculous.... particularly that point where he got to 3-5.

Andy won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4-6 7-6(3) 7-6(4)!!!

I wasn't able to watch, so unfortunately, I had to follow live scores, but I was still on the edge of my seat. Congrats Andy!!!

08-17-2003, 10:41 PM
damn Nwando, you beat me to it. VAMOS ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he saved 2 match points. apparently Andy wasn't playing too well, and Mardy was unbelievable, so for Andy to still come up the winner shows he can pull off wins when he's not at his greatest. oh and btw, Nwando go back to your old name, i miss reading it

08-17-2003, 10:43 PM
Andy played a lot better in the second and third, but Mardy's game was still giving him fits.

It was lots of pressure for Andy. He's not supposed to lose to someone that lowly ranked... I mean.... Was Mardy a wild card?

I am happy for Andy and his loyal fans. Think of how this will make all the anti-Andy folks gnash their teeth. :)

Star, I agree. Star, Naldo, I hate having to feel like this, like I want Andy to win preferrably so that people will be so mad over my happiness, but oh well, they brought this upon themself by getting so emotionally involved. YAAAAAAAAAAAAYY!

Congatulations Andy! What a win! :D

Very entertaining match to watch. Good thing that Andy raised his level in the latter two sets...especially during those tiebreaks. From the way he was playing I thought he was gonna lose at least one of those tiebreaks...but he really played good clutch tennis...and won the very very important points.

Nice run continue it. :)

Mardy was definitely not a wild card. He's almost Top 20!

I missed the match, it must have been great! Congrats to Andy: two consecutive Masters Series titles in a row! :bounce: And the first man to pull off the Canada/Cincinnati double since Pat Rafter :hearts: in 1998!

Pat won the US Open that year too :p Let's hope this pattern continues ;)
