But, but...Nadal's clothes (and in particular the pants) have never been discussed before and it's a worthy poll just like every poll here on MTF and......sorry, dozed off for a minute...and besides, we've got the entire image of tennis to think off, you know. These things matter and you can never have enough topics about pants.

Now, where are the usual suspects to talk about rivetting topics such as these? Already spotted two.

Taste is indeed a personal preference, it is whether it is good or bad taste that defines the man. Those of us with good taste, just know instinctively what it is

They looked even more ridiculous at the US Open with that tight shirt! :p My boyfriend came into the room while I was watching Nadal & Blake to ask me a question and when he was leaving, he said "what the heck!" I saw him looking at the the TV screen; I knew he was going to say something about Nadal's outfit (he's also an athelete, he played college basketball for North Carolina and pro for the Pheonix Suns but he was always 2nd string, never one of the best, he'd be angry if he knew I told you guys, so :tape: ). Anyway, that outfit Nadal had on at the US Open may look ok to some of us, but for people who don't know who he is and have never seen him before, the expression on their face when they first see his outfit is priceless! :D

they are comparable because they are both items of clothing that were taken out of their original context, and both look ridiculous. you said that capris are popular and it was simply because rafa was the first person to wear them in this new context that people think they are ridiculous. despite the fact that the uggs/skirt trend eventually caught on i still think it looks ridiculous as will rafa's pants in my opinion even if the whole world starts wearing them on court, my opinion has nothing to do with it being a first. that's all i was saying. :)

that and i think all men wearing capris in any context look awful. :p

Well, of course it's a matter of opinion and taste, and neither of us can persuade the other to think otherwise! The bottom line is:
that and i think all men wearing capris in any context look awful. :p

I couldn't disagree more, I like them in every summer context  :p

So, I'm definitely not trying to convince you to like them, but I still see a difference between wearing pants that are some 10 cm longer and a bit tighter than the standard ones, and wearing winter boots in summer, which frankly is a scary thought!

Taking things out of their original context may seem ridiculous at times, but itís a mark of progress and imagination. Fashion changes all the time, on and off tennis court. It would be very boring if we were to see the same outfits on the tennis court for years and years. Sure, itís subjective, sure some (many?) innovations are misses (for me the Agassi outfit and the 1980s fashion, for you the Nadal pants) but some are hits, and change is inevitable. Plus, various outfits suit different people (OMG John McEnroe in the capris, a big no-no!) and I think help express their personality.

i wasn't saying taking any kind of clothing out of it's original context is bad. of course it isn't, that's how fashion develops. however some developments are good some are just scary, it's a matter of opinion. and my opinion is that the capri pant is a bad development in tennis fashion, regardless of how many people decide to wear it. I hope the capri pant is one trend, like andre's outfits that doesn't catch on  therefore as far as i'm concerned, in answer to the threads question, Yes they will look just as ridiculous in 10 years.
also i agree JMac in the capris was so beyond scary  now imagine if only rafa had unveiled the condom shirt earlier (another one i hope doesn't catch on, throw hyrbaty's shirt into that category as well), we might have been subjected to seeing jmac in that as well :scared: :bolt:

I think that a lot of the "gay" comments that are shot at Nadal, stem from cultural differences... between Americans and Europeans, that is. For whatever reasons, some American men seem to think it's "unmanly" to wear capris. Apparently it's more regular, thus nobody really bats an eye when somebody does it across the pond. Of course, I've never been there, so I'm only going by word of mouth. The resident Euros are welcome to step in and add a correction.

Wow, you're too serious about it, but ok, let's do it your way.

I pity the fact that you judge my imagination and knowledge of English based on what, three posts? I don't think I have any problem 'grasping the term <ridiculous>':

ridiculous - deserving to be laughed at; absurd (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

As much as I like Agassi, that's precisely what I do when I look at that 1991 outfit - laugh. I am not the only one.

As much as I like Agassi, that's precisely what I do when I look at that 1991 outfit - laugh. I am not the only one.

Hence my characterization of you and others as "lemming-drones".

Pink, yellow, mullet, hair dye, fades, glow, spandex, etc, etc - believe it or not, those are NOT inherently inferior or ridiculous in any way shape or form. Next time I have a conversation with God or Cosmos, I'll be sure to get the proof of this in written form. ;)

For the record, I was 6 years old, in another part of the world and never cared much that particular look anyway, but I am not about to slag either Nadal or Andre because of some moronic fashion/cultural/groupthink paradigm. Ya dig?

PS I wasn't making fun of your English - just pointing out your simplistic, cliched application of 'ridiculous' when it comes to fashion.

Hi AgassiFan, it's me again

Youíre jumping to conclusions calling me a lemming-drone because of one opinion. I think if you knew me in real life youíd say Iím anything but. I know, you only have these posts to base your perception of me on, but it's too little and youíre too fast to judge me. Also, I thought most people here didnít like the capris (looking at the poll results) so I seem to be in a minority on that one, too.
Pink, yellow, mullet, hair dye, fades, glow, spandex, etc, etc - believe it or not, those are NOT inherently inferior or ridiculous in any way shape or form.
No, itís the 1991 combination of the above that is ridiculous. To me, that is. Whyís that simplistic or cliched?
I am not about to slag either Nadal or Andre because of some moronic fashion/cultural/groupthink paradigm. Ya dig?
I do. Poll = a survey of opinions. I don't think I slagged Andre, I just happen to have an opinion about his outfit. I thought I was entitled to have one? If youíre going to try to set new fashion trends, you have to expect that some people will be critical. It doesnít mean I respect Andre any less. In fact, I think I like him more for that because it makes him come across as a much more colourful person (pun not intended). Plus, it definitely takes courage to wear something like that

PS. Lucky you, you have conversations with God! :worship: So, could you ask Him if He liked Agassiís outfit? Just curious Ö ;)
