The best tennis match in recent memory

I thought Safin and Federer semi final at Ausi open this year was the best match I've witnessed in recent memory. Someone mentioned that Safin won by playing high intensity tennis for 5 sets. I think that really hit the point. It was a match filled with intensity from beginning to the end. And how fitting that Roger fell on the last point that finally defeated him. Both players deserved a lot of money for that match.

the coria nadal match in --was it Roma?-- was also good

But marat def. Roge was certainly fantastique, high quality from both sides, great momentum shifts, drama, etc.

Marat vs Roger was by far the highest standard of what we've seen in last few years.. It was Federer playing someone who played at Federer's level. Might not see anything like that again soon..

I haven't watched Coria/Nadal final in Rome. Can anyone give a short review of the match?

Nothing beats Ivanisevic-Rafter 2001 wimbledon final, but of this year I would say Fed-Saf in Aus open,

Rafa = Fed Killa

How about the one between Al-Ennui (or something along those lines) and The Cyclops at 2003 AO QF?

Hilarious if not high-quality per se.

Of course, I'm adding my vote for Safin/Federer @ this year's AO. A learned person called that match a tennis geek's dream. :) How true.

You are no madman. Ivanisevic-Rafter was, according to John McEnroe, "One For The Ages." He wasn't kidding. That was one magical match. Played on Monday when everyone was welcome. The stadium was electric and as noisy as a soccer match.

One helluva tournament and not just because I put $100 down on Goran to take it all.

Second favorite match was Federer d. Flip at the 2003 W final. 9 UFEs in the final. The closest thing to perfection we'll ever see in tennis. Stunning and flawless play. Like watching music.

You cannot add Santoro-Clement or Coria-Gaudio
You´re confussing LONG matches with GOOD matches.

I choose Safin-Federer in Australia and Nadal-Coria in Rome. The best ones this year.

Wang-Gregoric 1st round Beijing open 05: 7-6, 6-1
Big drama, shifts of momentum, at one point I thought Wang was becoming crazy when staring at his towel. This damned Gregoric and his UE's, waow, it's a pity there were so few people in the crowd...
I really enjoyed this one, if you want the DVD, I have it and will cherish it for the rest of my life, I keep it with other great matches, very close to Safin-Federer AO 05 and Blake-Agassi USO 05...
