James's Indoor Season!

Deboogle!.
09-12-2005, 05:34 AM
Sure, why not a thread :p

Looks like James is planning to play a pretty full indoor schedule. I suppose DC could count, since it's indoors. We'll find out pretty soon if James is picked for the 2nd singles spot, I guess. He's entered Metz and Stockholm, and surely he will play both Madrid and Paris since he'll get in directly. Not sure yet if he's entered into one of Basel, Lyon, or St. Petersburg (they are in between Madrid and Paris) but hopefully not as that would have him playing 5 weeks in a row!

Go James, keep movin' on up!!

Deboogle!.
09-13-2005, 11:15 PM
okay, I will just talk to myself.

Since DC is being held indoors I guess we can talk about it here. He was picked on the official team nominations posted today at the DC site!

WOOHOO!!

PaulieM
09-13-2005, 11:33 PM
you don't have to talk to yourself :p
i hope james doesn't decide to play 5 weeks in a row, he's already played quite a lot lately, and after 3+ really great weeks his mind has got to be a bit fried, he'll definitely need some rest.

ataptc
09-15-2005, 08:01 AM
Yay for James getting picked! It was an obvious choice anyway, with his slightly better clay record

He'd better not play 5 weeks in a row.. that's insane! Unless he loses early, then it's fine but of course we do not want that to happen!

Go James! Bring your momentum into the indoor season!

Deboogle!.
09-16-2005, 12:09 AM
Well this is from tennis-x ... so I guess James was just put there as a random technicality b/c he could only officially nominate 4 players :( C'mon James! Show you deserve to play!
---------------
U.S. Davis cup captain Patrick McEnroe says don't jump the gun on the Davis Cup website showing James Blake as the No. 2 singles player, since his actual choice will be announced as late as 24 hours before the match: "According to Davis Cup rules, the country must elect four players 10 days before the match," P-Mac told Tennis-X. "Those players can be changed for any reason up to the draw ceremony, which takes place 24 hours before the match begins. Thus, my selection of the four players [Andy Roddick, James Blake, the Bryan brothers] at this point is simply a technicality."

:( James, show that you're worthy!

Pat is crazy if he doesn't pick James. I like Robby too but he's hardly ever won a single match on clay. The Rochii are tough opponents.

I hope James can rack up some points in the indoor season. You never know with him, will he play like he did at the Open, or just lose to anybody? I don't mind if he plays five weeks, because he might lose early here or there -- if he goes deep in a draw, he can always drop out.

But does anyone know if he will get into Madrid main draw directly?

Deboogle!.
09-16-2005, 06:22 PM
He is not in the Madrid main draw, and he's fairly low on the ALT list so he'd have to try to qualify. So if he goes deep the week before he wouldn't be able to... and that's ok, b/c a week off in there might be nice anyway. He's also on the Lyon list.

Looks like James isn't going to play Metz :(

Fee
09-30-2005, 05:19 PM
Yes, he has withdrawn from Metz. Perhaps he's still a bit worn out from Davis Cup and the USO. He has to play qualies for Madrid (because the entry cutoff was taken before the USO) so he'll be well rested for that.

Deboogle!.
09-30-2005, 09:49 PM
awww :( Too bad, but probably a smart idea so that he can def. try to qualify for Madrid :)

Some musings elsewhere on this board that there is a vote for the last WC spot and James is in the running. I will have to hunt for the addie.

Deboogle!.
10-06-2005, 03:55 PM
Yes, in the Spanish newspaper or something? I didn't see a link where I read it, though, so if you had it that'd be awesome!

That'd be great for James to get a WC :)

10-11-2005, 02:55 AM
How will this work out though? If James keeps on winning, and qualies starts in Madrid, assuming that he couldn't get a WC? He'll have to drop out of Stockholm?

Deboogle!.
10-11-2005, 03:14 AM
If he made the QF of Stockholm I think he'd just take the week of Madrid off and say too bad.

I can't see him losing in Stockholm on purpose just to go to Madrid to try to qualify.

renee_chin
10-11-2005, 04:08 AM
On the other hand - he can gain much more points in Madrid, if he makes it deep into the tourney...
I just hope he'll get a WC - solves all the problems...

Deboogle!.
10-11-2005, 04:36 AM
yes, yes it would solve the problems. But James isn't the type who woud ever crap out of a tourney just for a chance at bigger points. :)

ataptc
10-11-2005, 10:46 AM
Yeah being such a nice guy, I can't imagine him tanking just to qualify for Madrid either :) So just give him the WC, Madrid!!

Correct. James should win that match, c'mon James! :D

16681
10-12-2005, 04:07 PM
Is the ATP site behind? I don't see that C. Rochus has played yet so how do you know that he will be the player
that James will face next?

Deboogle!.
10-12-2005, 04:22 PM
he beat Acasuso today...... yeah the ATP site must be behind.

16681
10-12-2005, 05:03 PM
Yes I just read where both of the Rochus brothers won so the ATP site is behind. What is the point of having a site like that if it is not current? I went to the site of the Tournament once and either I was there when no matches were being played or the real time scoring on the site wouldn't work for me. I think I will go back and try that site again. I went back to that site and I still couldn't get that real time scoring so it must just not work for me

ataptc
10-12-2005, 05:11 PM

I had hoped he would get into Madrid, but maybe since he is playing in Stockholm that might be too much for him to do anyway ;)

Deboogle!.
10-13-2005, 10:02 PM
Well he can't be in two places at once.

Deboogle!.
10-13-2005, 11:50 PM
Well at least James is doing well at Stockholm, making the QF will give him a net of 50 entry points which will give him a couple spots in the ranking. Winning tomorrow and making the Semis would put him inside the top 30 most likely.

16681
10-14-2005, 12:32 AM
That sounds good, but I can't understand why they can't put a bit more space between Tournaments. So if a player wanted to they could be in one Tournament and if they made it into another one they would still have time to go.
James has had it rough and I would like to see him do well
and move up in the rankings. I was told Robby made it in, but no one seems to know for sure if he is going. I think he should go. He has nothing to loose.

I think his 55 points from making the quarterfinals w/ill take him up to 28 in the world.

Deboogle!.
10-14-2005, 01:16 AM
well he already has 5 points for his 5th best so he only gets 50 but that wouldn't make a difference. It might be good enough for 29 or 30 or so but it'd be close. He'd guarantee top 30 by making the semis.

Unfortunately it means definitely no Madrid but that's ok :) If he could make the final or win the title here that's just as important for him really. He'll either play Bjorkman or get a rematch at Oli, they are locked in a third set right now :)

Deboogle!.
10-14-2005, 03:31 PM
Well, he IS going to Madrid. For doubles! :)

From his site....
-------------------
James will not be (playing qualies), but he will be competing next week in Madrid- with Andy Roddick in the doubles draw! So hopefully he takes care of bizness in Stockholm and then has some fun next week with his compatriot in the dubs draw.

Edit: James will play Oli tomorrow.... hopefully he can avenge the DC loss :)

Andy says a lot of crap that he contradicts later. He plays once in a while, a few times a year - usually when he hasn't played much and wants to adjust to the conditions. He's done it at Houston and Queens and sometimes in the fall and not much else lol.

Resurgent American James Blake claimed his third career title on Sunday, beating Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan 6-1 7-6 at the Stockholm Open.

It was Blake's first tournament appearance since losing an epic five-setter to Andre Agassi in the U.S. Open quarter-finals where he had a two sets to love lead.

The 25-year-old sixth seed started the year ranked 97th after a tough 2004 season that included a severe neck injury and the death of his father, but has shown impressive form since the beginning of August, reeling off 21 wins in 25 matches.

Sunday's final was his first in Europe, his previous titles having come in Washington in 2002 and in New Haven this year.

"It's great to know I can succeed here, half the (ATP) tour is here in Europe," Blake told reporters.

"This is the first time I've had success in Europe, previously I've only done well in the States and maybe in Australia."

Blake took advantage of poor serving from Srichaphan in the first set to break him three times, clinching it in 21 minutes.

The Thai found his rhythm in the second set and broke to 5-4 but failed to capitalize and Blake broke straight back.

The players then held serve to move into a tiebreak where Blake squandered his first two match points before winning it 8-6 and claiming his fourth win in five meetings with the Thai.

Blake said: "Paradorn started playing great tennis in the second set, so I'm glad I was able to stay on with him."

He added: "People have said to me in the past that I'm a grand slam contender and I haven't believed it.

"Now I feel I can be a contender and when I'm looking into the grand slams it feels like I can compete all the way into the second Sunday."

Blake next travels to the Madrid Masters where he will play only the doubles with friend and compatriot Andy Roddick.

Paradorn, who had ousted Swedish top seed Thomas Johansson and Italian David Sanguinetti in close three-setters, said: "I think I've had a slow starts since the quarter-finals.

"Today I lost the first set again, but I still believed I could play well in the second set, which I did.

"I had a chance to serve it home, but he played great then. He was just better and I think he deserved to win today."

Got to give my congrats to James. Playing brilliantly as of late, and I'm really happy that he won his first title ever on European soil. This proves that he can win things away from America and hopefully this Stockholm title will be the first of many.

James Blake will take a seat on one of the best-known couches in the country on Friday. Blake will appear as a guest on the Oprah Winfrey show in Friday, October 21st. Check your local listings for the air time in your area.

The Blake interview was taped in September. If you can’t wait for Friday, you can see Blake reveal his "Aha" moment to Oprah here on Oprah.com

Blake has also taped an interview with Mike Wallace that will air in a future episode of 60 Minutes.

Seems from James's site that it's just an upset stomach. So that's good.

James isn't the one of the two that needs matches in ;)

Merci beaucoup, Cecilia!

Unfortunately, James lost :(

His 2005 is over.... he has so much to be proud of!!!!!! :D And he has a nice chance earlier in the 2006 season to gain points as he should be seeded for the AO And he doesn't have too many other points early in the season!
