The crowd will not be a factor if ROGER COMES OUT WEARING HIS NINJA GEAR AND NOT BEING NAKED OUT THERE LIKE HE WAS TODAY!!!!!!!!! :fiery: Roger can disfuse the crowd by winning the 1st set and stay on Andre. If he plays like he did today then Andre will cream him and deservely so. Roger cannot be playing shitty this late stage of a slam. UNACCEPTABLE TENNIS from Roger today. He better be sharp from the start.

this is true, but he sure cut it closer than normal today ;) a little bit of luck for hewitt and roger might not have had another match to save it for. hmm maybe roger was trying to throw everyone off ;) he can only play better tomorrow *i hope* come on roger you can do it, i think you're ready to win your 6th major!!!!

I rather have him lose in the semis than be holding the dinner tray. I am just upset he hasn't been consistent. He was very iffy and made so many bad tactical moves. He hit too many short balls to the baseline, bad BH (which did get better but was still not solid overall), bad serve %. I am hoping Roger can bring out his best stuff tomorrow right away and play a great match but at this point I am just hoping he is good enough to win. Roger I know will get inspired greatly for this match and to defend his title. I just hope he can find his form early in the match and keep it all the way through.

i hope so too, i don't want to see him holding the "dinner tray" either. hopefully roger fill be sufficiently annoyed with all the opportunities he wasted today and play like ninja tomorrow. he knows he's going to have to play better than he did today to win tomorrow.

What's annoying to me is Agassi played three five set matches in a row yet everyone is marveling at what great tennis he's playing. What would people be saying if Roger played three five set matches in a row? I commend Aggasi for grinding out those matches and getting to the finals, but he certainly had his share of errors today. And Ginepri just couldn't handle the big moment and looked beat himself - that was his fourth five set match. he just mentally and physically went away.

They would probably say "His reign will be over soon" or smth like that  It annoys me too, but let's concentrate on cheering for Roger and don't care about what others think and say ;)

:bigclap: similar thing with the blake match, a lot of people act like it was all about agassi raising his level of play. sure he played better towards the end but he was helped out quite a bit by james choking on big points, especially at the end of the third set. i loved that roger told it like it was when he was asked about, yes it was a good effort to win it, but james let him back in too many times.

it's good that roger has been able to hang tough in moments where he has struggled, that can only benefit him on the whole. he hasn't struggled as much as some would have you believe, but it hasn't always been good from him either, he's hung in and ground a little too which is an achievement from roger as well, people used to say he didn't like it when things got "messy" but he's certainly "turned that around," something i think he would be pretty happy about. so hopefully he's happy about what he's done well and itching to fix the things he didn't. GO GET 'EM IN THE FINAL!!!!

I'll say one thing....Agassi won't care how Roger played against Lleyton. He knows that every day is a new day and just because Roger played average today doesn't mean he will tomorrow. Roger's beat Agassi in front of this crowd before and he beat him in Miami earlier this year, also in front of an Agassi-friendly crowd. I just hope he gets off to a good start and takes the crowd out of it. I'd like to see him not serve first for a change.

I love how the media is downplaying Andre's chances. PMac just said that his chances of winning tomorrow were slim. Yeah, I know Roger's record in finals. But they've all been saying Andre's playing his best tennis ever. If that's the case then don't be downplaying his chances against Roger. He already got a gift with the scheduling. Doesn't need anymore by downplaying his chances and putting all the pressure on Roger.

Q. Were you given the option to play first? I would assume you would have taken it if you had.
ROGER FEDERER: That was the plan in the first place.

Q. So what happened?
ROGER FEDERER: Phone call, I don't know (smiling).

Q. I mean, I don't know, what do you feel by that? Are you bothered by that?
ROGER FEDERER: I'm through to the final, you know. We both have to win, but something like that happens. But what have we got, three more hours of rest? So, I mean, could be crucial, I don't know. I don't think so, but...

Well, I mean, it's not also the TV that should decide on things like that. So you can ask the players or just the tournament should not even ask anybody and just put up who they think is the prime time match. It's always hard, you know, two Americans, you get the No. 1 and No. 3 in the one section. It's their call. I'm not really angry

HOW RUDE TO PUT HIM IN THE SPOT LIEK THIS:

Q: Thinking about not a wonderful tennis player, but a normal human being, sentimental human being, which do you think would be the best for the end of this tournament?
ROGER FEDERER: I didn't understand. I'm sorry.

Q. Like a human being, thinking like a human being, not like a tennis player.
ROGER FEDERER: Yes.

Q. Which do you think is the best end for this tournament?
ROGER FEDERER: Tomorrow?

Q. Uh hmm.
ROGER FEDERER: (Smiling). Well, depends how you look at it, huh? Where you're from.
Well, it's hard to say, huh. I mean, it's a very different setup, right. Young against older. A guy whose career is towards the end, another guy's been dominant. So depends if you like dominance or not, so (smiling)...

Q. For many people who watch this match tomorrow, there are going to be a lot of emotional elements involved: Sentimentality, nostalgia, watching Andre Agassi play for so long. Do you care about that from a personal sense or is it another match?

ROGER FEDERER: No, it's not another match, obviously. It's very special. I mean, last year was already incredible, I thought, to play Lleyton in the finals. Now it's Andre. I think it's even more emotional, more there's more in it, you know, especially in the finals. It's not like the quarterfinals last year. So already that was special, I thought night session against him. So this is, I guess, one of my biggest matches in my career.
So I better be playing well.

Even if Roger had a long match today, the good news is that Andre being older will not recuperate as fast as Roger usually doesn't play bad 2 times in a road. So, hopefully, Roger will bring his A game.

Here is what agassi thinks about his chances:

“There’s no weakness to speak of,” Agassi said. “You play a bad match against Pete, you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a good match against Pete, you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a good match against Federer, you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a bad match against Federer, you lose 1 and 1.”

(Some dumbfuck ceo just totally botched the presentation. First he said something about 2 wonderful firms, when he meant 2 wonderful Champions. Then he presented her a check for $1.1M, when she wins $2.2 since her winnings are doubled by virtue of winning lead in series.)

Step 2: Roger, your turn.

Good luck in the final Rogi :bounce: You can do it!

Agassi will never have better opportunity to win another slam & separate himself from all the other 8 GSers. So he will give his everything + all the crowds x1000 will be behind him. Will be a very tough one, so Rogi'd better come out like the way he did in last year uso final.

RogiFan88

Have I said this already? Rogi has to up the ante vs. AA or his beautiful winstreak in F may come to an end... I am prepared for this considering he hasn't played v well all this USO.

He's up vs. pressure, AA, crowd, records [who cares] and himself.

So much to improve for the F: serve, brkpt conv esp!, returns...

AA will be tougher to beat than Hewitt.

RogiFan88
09-11-2005, 05:15 AM
also vs. Rogi, the whole USO schedule favouring old Baldy [who was hopping and skipping as if he was Jaden's playmate at playschool]... AA does get his wish, as always... PMac can shut up... reverse psychology fr him

I rather have him lose in the semis than be holding the dinner tray.

Why would you prefer that? Getting to the finals gives him more points that just getting to the semis. So what ever happens I am glad he has made it to the final.

As far as how he has been playing, let's not forget that Hewitt has tried to change his game and get more power on his serve and hit harder. Hewitt is not the same as he was last year. So if Roger couldn't simply roll over him maybe Hewitt had something to do with that.

Furthermore, I was surprised that Malisse took Agassi to 5 sets. Ginepri took Agassi to 5 sets when previously he'd never won a set from him? So does that mean that Agassi is playing below his level or that those guys are just a little better than before? Who knows? It's not all one sided.

PamV

What's annoying to me is Agassi played three five set matches in a row yet everyone is marveling at what great tennis he's playing. What would people be saying if Roger played three five set matches in a row? I commend Aggasi for grinding out those matches and getting to the finals, but he certainly had his share of errors today. And Ginepri just couldn't handle the big moment and looked beat himself - that was his fourth five set match. he just mentally and physically went away.

Right. And they seem to think Roger was a failure because he didn't beat Hewitt in straight sets, but Agassi was a hero for beating Ginepri in 5 sets.

I'm sorry.

etc.....

I don't like this line of questioning either because it could be an attempt to get into Roger's head and soften him up so he will let Agassi win. I did worry a little that he might feel that it would be nice to let Agassi win so he could end his career on a high note. However, from the sound of Roger's answer I hope that he is thinking only about trying to win for the sake of his own career and the record books. He has it tough because some say it's boring when he wins....then if he ever loses they act like his career is practically over.

Bill Mountford's Picks: Men's Final
by Bill Mountford
Saturday, September 10, 2005

1-ROGER FEDERER (SWI) V. 7-ANDRE AGASSI (USA)

Did some Hollywood producer orchestrate this path to the finals? It might feel that way, but of course the answer is an emphatic no. Both of these men earned their way to the second Sunday with hard-earned victories, especially Andre Agassi. The American has survived three consecutive five-setters and all eyes will be on how his 35-year-old body responds. Meanwhile, Federer has seemed to struggle with his form throughout four of his six matches, yet he has surrendered only two sets. Not too shabby, but his standards have set the standard.

Agassi may be able to rush Federer, especially when attacking the Swiss champion's backhand, but he has never demonstrated the ability to move forward effectively and finish points at the net against the top players. This will hinder Agassi's chances. Meanwhile, Federer plays great defense, is prescient when playing neutral balls, and has shown greater ability to transition quickly to offense than any other player in the modern game. His all-court versatility makes him a joy to watch, but a nightmare to compete against.

Do not underestimate Andre Agassi's serve and his ability to hold serve consistently. Year in and year out, he is among the tour leaders in this category. He will need to serve, and hold his serve, flawlessly to allow him the opportunity to really go after returns of serve. That will ultimately tell the tale. The biggest advantage that Pete Sampras enjoyed through the years in his wonderful rivalry with Agassi was his superior athleticism. Unfortunately for Agassi, Roger Federer has proven to be every bit the athlete that Pete was at his zenith. Worse, Federer is a full eleven years younger than Agassi. No player will arrive in the final round of a major championship without nagging pains, but this will most probably affect the older Agassi more significantly.

I am hoping against hope for a nail-biting five-setter. However, logic tells me that this may turn into a straight sets romp. With these two great ambassadors for our sport, and all the heartache that has occurred in America over the past few weeks, even the post-match award ceremony will be compelling. Expect Roger Federer to successfully defend his US Open title within two hours.

Matthew Cronin's Picks: Men's Final
by Matthew Cronin
Saturday, September 10, 2005

1-ROGER FEDERER (SWI) V. 7-ANDRE AGASSI (USA)

Most of the US is hoping for a minor miracle here because Agassi has dropped seven straight matches to the Swiss, including in the 2004 US Open quarterfinals. The crowd will have to play into the contest in a big way because Agassi doesn't match up that well against Federer, except on the backhand side. Federer has a better serve, volley, forehand and is substantially quicker. The Swiss hasn't lost a final in his last 22 attempts and really believes that he's a more effective shotmaker at crunch time.

However, it's not like Federer has had a perfect tournament and he was pushed by both Nicolas Kiefer and by Lleyton Hewitt. His backhand has been sporadic and he's frequently rushing his shots when under pressure. Sure, he's pulled out his best stuff when necessary, but Agassi's highest level can be suffocating and if Federer doesn't serve well and if the Las Vegan can serve great, this could be highly competitive match.

In order to have a significant chance in this match, Agassi is going to have to take a lot of chances. Anytime he can get control of a rally, he'll have to go for shots because Federer can turn a point around in a split second. When Agassi used to beat Federer, he pounded into his backhand and will have to do so again, even if Roger zones on it for a set or two.

When the Swiss is at his best, he has no real weaknesses, but the feeling here is that he won't find perfect form on Sunday. If he doesn't, Agassi will find a few ways to pick on him, because he's a master of mid-match strategy.

Andre believes that his legs won't fail him on Sunday, even after having to win three five-setters in a row. But he'll only have a 24-hour turnaround for this one so if this one does go five, don't expect the 35-year-old to be dashing around for balls.

All credit to Agassi for putting on one of the best shows this tournament has seen over the past 15 years. In this day and age of an endless list of fleet, big hitters, reaching a Slam final is an amazing achievement. But Andre will not go any further than that, because at crunch time, Federer won't let go of the moment like Malisse, Blake and Ginepri did. Fed will seize the day and win an intense four-setter and defend his US Open title.

If everything goes just normal even doesn't have to be exceptional, Roger will win.

YES, THAT PISSED ME OFF SO BADLY :fiery::fiery::fiery: On seeing these things, I want Roger to come out with killing spirit without showing any mercy :fiery::fiery:

Go Roger! Get the slaughter on its way :fiery: Shut those idiots up by telling them with your action that YOU ARE OUT THERE TO EXERT SOME BLOODY KILLING AND YOU ARE THE KING ON COURT :fiery::fiery::fiery:

Agassi: “You play a bad match against Pete (Sampras), you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a good match against Pete, you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a good match against Federer, you lose 6-4, 7-5. You play a bad match against Federer, you lose 1 and 1.”

Not to mention that if he wins he adds another major to his tally and as there are no guarantees how long any tennis player's career is going to last it's important to take every opportunity seriously. As there is always so many comparisons based on number of majors won, each one is important.

Yeah, I am always nervous going in to the match and can only relax if I see Roger is able to break the opponent early and/or is playing his best.

Yesterday he started bad serving first. He hit some odd errors like he wasn't fully ready to start or must have been nervous. I hope he won't be extra nervous this time. They are building this match up to such a degree. They said if Andre were to win this it would be the biggest win of his career.

I would think winning RG 1999 might be more important for Andre or his first and only Wimby title. Maybe right now they are just saying that it would be extraordinary to pull this off at the age of 35.

They are synchronized. CBS has a deal with USTA that the match cannot begin till they are ready to show it

You might remember, Sampras agassi 2002 --- they pointed to this, the Overtime in NFL as one of the superstitious streaks that went Sampras's way. Sampras had never lost a match at night, start at night or finish at night. Because the NFL went into overtime, the match had to begin late. Ended at night. Pete retained his perfect record in USO night matches. :worship:

With Agassi they have tried to give him some help in any way they can. Such as scheduling his SF match earlier and then asking Federer questions about the sentimental value of Agassi winning in the final. Roger has a soft heart.....but he's not stupid. With Agassi they have tried to give him some help in any way they can. Such as scheduling his SF match earlier and then asking Federer questions about the sentimental value of Agassi winning in the final. Roger has a soft heart.....but he's not stupid. I hope he can focus on winning and not get caught up in the Agassi legend. Besides didn't Agassi beat Connors once in a final? That's how it goes....each player if for himself.
not to mention the constant reminder to any fan that's going to be there that happened to be watching these last few day that andre is really going to need to crowd behind him. :secret: yell a lot to annoy roger

Roger has a lots of pride. I am sure that he doesn't want to lose. Andre might be a legend, but Roger himself is a futur legend.

:worship:

We with tv coverage will fill in where we can.... I know it is not the same thing.

Briefly: they had a sentimental clip on andre, his passage here, and his past life at the USO from late 1980s. It was nicely done
They had a very small non-senti clip on Roge, showed his loss at USO to andre. Roge looking very thin, young, pony tail --nice memories. Saying he is the dominant person in tennisetc

Tehn, James taylor sings America the Beautiful and a fly-by 4 aircrafts

Moment of silence for 9/11 victimes

Pam, didn't you watch Cincinaty's SF Roger vs Ginepri? it was tough match and Ginepri played very well. he won the tournament just before Cincinaty.
So, I thought Ginepri had big chance to beat Agassi. ;)

Yes, but I am saying that if we recognize that Ginepri has improved and that's the reason he took Agassi to 5 sets......then we should also examine if Hewitt has improved and that's the reason Roger didn't have a straight sets crushing of Hewitt in the SF.

I agree Ginepri has improved. What about Malisse, though?

andre is focussed too though. So far the games have been quite even, but Roge got to deuce on andre's game --which is a step more than andre
