He won the tournament in QF last year. It could be the case this year again. His slow movement is a concern. Good luck.

So it's Nalby. Rogi's looking forward to it, i doubt he will take david lightly given their h2h and the fact that this is the qrt final. I expect he'll play a better match than he did today, and of course hopefully come away with the win(a decisive one :p ) :). C'mon Rogi!!

I think to say that Nalbandian could give Roger some troubles because of their H2H record is wrong, as some people are talking like that in GM. His 5 losses against Nalbandian came in the year 2003 and earlier years. Roger is now more a matured player than at the time, and he won his last two meetings against David. I am not saying that it will be Roger's easy win. I know David has some stuff which can trouble Roger. But, if Roger plays good, why should he lose to David?? I hope he doesn't have a bad day on Thursday...

Good luck, Roger!! :)

yep but i think they will say anything just cos they want Roger to lose so badly :fiery: Theh2h is so old and Roger won last time they played when Roger ewas dominating. Hope Roger wins easily and all those stupid people on GM shut up .

OK folks, hang on to your seats. I am nervous already for this match :o :help: This is the match I most wanted & most nervous to follow. It will be a torture to follow this from the sb only  :bigcry:

I wish I can share the confidences all of you have here. Their last match was AO 2004, and it was so tight.
Well with David you don't know which version of him will come out to play. But he enjoys playing Rogi, so I expect him to come out gun blazing in the QF. So Rogi'd better do the same.

ALLEZ ROGI!!! GOOD LUCK :bounce:

iam very confident in a roger win. like someone already pointed out, all rogers loses came before 'roger became roger' and roger has one the last 2 just when roger was coming out of his shell, but not fully, so iam confident of 3 or 4 sets win but the win is the most important thing whether its 3 or 5 sets.
good luck roger you can do it.

I like your confidence!

The last two times that Roger played Nalbandian were TMC 2003 and AO 2004. At that time it was apparent that he found the key to handling Nalbandian. I just hope he remembers that plan well. Of course Nalbandian will know about the plan too, but I hope he can't do anything to stop the Federer Express from rolling.

I haven't gotten to see Nalbandian play at all recently. Is he back to his 2003 form, or is he a little overweight now?

I had been waiting to this for long long time also, I like David a lot and it's nice to see him doing well here in USO (after USO2003, I just really hope for him to win here once finally) but of course there's no doubt who I will be cheering for in this match, though either way one of them better go all the way and win this title.

But Eva, I'm going to have to miss this match if they put it at night! (is there anyway they will put Hewitt/Jarkko at night instead? ) I have to be at work, and worse of all can't even follow the sb!!! DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!

Come on Rogi, bring your best here pls and give us a good match!!! We can be nervous but confident at the same time, can't we? Doesn't mean that was being negative ;)

this match worries me :(
during his match against kiefer yesterday, the camera happend to give us a nice look up roger's shorts, and i noticed that he had tape on the back of his thigh.. did anyone else see this????? i hope it's nothing. :scared: he has seemed pretty grumpy during his last 2 matches which was odd, he just looked like he really didn't want to be out there. i sure hope he plays better against david he's going to have to.

Rogi/Nalby Thu evening most likely

Daniel, everyone wants everyone to beat Rogi cos it's SO BORING cos he wins ALL THE TIME... is it equally boring when Rafaelito wins? How can Rogi be dominating when Rafa has taken 9 titles and Gasti 5? I don't understand the "logic".

We have to expect it yet when Rogi plays "badly" they are SO SHOCKED and start trashing him AGAIN... never satisfied these FedTrolls. WhatEver, I say.

I like Rogi, Rafa, Daveeeeeeeeeed, Gasti, Juanqui, hell, I even cheer for Robby now that he plays REAL tennis -- credit to him for improving -- I don't hate Pandy, I feel sorry for him -- Guille's game is nice to watch, it's just his personality [but it IS amusing to see him argue] -- LLeyt and AA are boring and I see too much of them on my TV screen [just like the Venus sistahs].

Why am I saying all this? Who knows...

he hasnt been playing great, a few of his matchs his been hitting more errors than winners and yeah he is a lil overweight. which has hindered his movement and his game is about scrappying and being defensive so overall its affected his game too.

not to worry, i've been doing my best these past 2 weeks to send roger all the good vibes i can. i just wondered about the tape, the commentators didn't mention anything but i figured they might not have noticed since it was only visible for a few seconds. i hope it's just a precaution. i think roger knows perfectly well that he has to play well to beat david and hopefully he'll come out on fire. he said this was the match he wanted, and he'll be ready for it, he seems excited to prove that he has figured out how to play well against him. they showed him practicing earlier today doing some footwork drills which is great. :)

nope, nobdy has been playing great, james obviously had a great match against nadal, but against tommy he was much less convinceing. right now robby is playing shite against coria who also is playing shite so nobody is standing out. roger is playing the best tennis out of the mens but because its not his personal best, gm home in on it and do the usual, 'o fed is playing poorly, he may loose, omg fed lost a set blah blah blah blah'
i am honestly really confident about this tourny, i feel really good about rogers chances and i am not worried one bit about his level of play.
and please dont get me started on the women, i mean your hard pressed to find a match were the winners are higher than errors(with exception to mary today, she played a blinder), the constant breaks, you just dont know whos in control of the match, its so anoying, but i am keeping an eye on it, hopefuly kim or lis will win it, would be also nice to see mary take it.
good luck roger

Roger's toughest opponent is himself. Once he has that mastered, everything else will take care of itself. His last match showed me how difficult & wearing it is to have every aspect of your life - yr. body, yr. relationships, yr. mood, yr. mind, ... yr. everything in the right place to allow you to fully concentrate & play yr. best. All it takes is one argument w/yr. girlfriend/boyfriend the night before to put you in a sour mood...That's a huge challenge. How many people can pull that off for a month, much less month in & year out for a decade??? As Roger said last year towards the end - perhaps NYC, perhaps Houston - "you all think it's so easy. It's not." But, of course, that's 'cuz Roger has made it look so easy.

I "borrowed" these remarks fr the Nalby forum:

David said:

David said:

"The motivation for both of us will be huge"

"When you know too well, the ranking doesn't exist anymore. Anything can happen, there's no one who's unbeatable"

"I see that no one does what bothers him and that's why he's always playing that confortable"

"The reality is that Federer has improved a lot, he's the number 1 for a reason; but I also feel playing well and I'm ready for the challenge"

"If you don't do what it bothers him and don't try to break his confidence, then everything gets complicated because everything gets easier and natural"

"Besides I don't think Federer is playing his best tennis in the Open"

"I can't think about the final and much less about playing Guillermo Coria because I think that wouldn't be realistic right now"

;)

Just play well, both Rogi and David!

Fergie

I think Rogi has to play his A-level tennis now coz Nalbandian will be eager to beat him.
I want a Roger-Agassi final. Then again the ppl will probably support the evergreen and Roger will definitely goin up against not just the ol' man but the crowd also. But I dont wanna look too far ahead.

Goodluck to Federer, Bhupati and Hantuchova. Think smart and play with the heart!

Nalby is a good player but compared to Roger in every aspect, maybe he leads a bit in backhand, esp the down-the-line shot, but that shot could well become errors if he is not on top form on that particular day. Roger leads in every other aspect regarding their games. The last time they played in 2004 AO, Roger won with a bit of luck on his side I think, but he was not at all the dominant and consistent and mentally-strong Roger now. If everything goes normally, shouldn't be much problem for Roger I think. But Roger surely should step up a gear than against Kiefer. Just I'm a bit worried about his physical health, because he was really not the normal him regarding the movement in the first 2 sets of the Kiefer match.

Go Roger. Take this, and you will reach the title with ease.

Also borrowed from the Nalby thread:

This is what Coria said:

"I've lost a great opportunity to be in the SF, but I'm convinced that David can show in the court what he can achieve when he faces Federer"

"I don't think Federer really wants to face Nalbandian in QF instead of Sanguinetti, without taking merit off of the Italian tennis player"

"David doesn't respect him (federer) at all, cause he's beaten him 5 times, he knows how to play him and it will be a complete different match"

"Nalbandian knows the strategy to win the match and Federer also is aware of that reality"

The last point is very true. ;)

Nalbandian Federer

I'm sorry but I have to say this- nobody can compete with South American players in trash talking. Can you imagine Federer, Agassi, Safin, even Hewiit to say " I don't respect player A because I beat him 5 times".

If only Nalbandian knew the tactics how to beat the rest of the tour and how to lose kilos around the middle...

By respect I think (I hope) Coria is meaning "fear". It is true that Nalb would not fear Roge because he has a good record for him. But I hope it does not mean that he think of Roge accomplishment as not worthy of respect

I'm just wondering because it's a stupid thing to say. I don't care how many times he's beaten him, he hasn't recently and Roger is the #1 player in the world. Yeah at one time Lleyton Hewitt had a positive H2H against Roger too...

Poor Guille, his pride [not to mention his serving] is hurting after that pounding fr Robby yesterday.

But how would that have anything to do with Roger? I find Coria's disrespect for Roger mysterious. This year he was the first to jump the Nadal bandwagon even before the 1st clay master, quickly pointing out Nadal was now the best player on clay. Yet I remember how he was reluctant to admit Roger had become the world's best player around the time of his first loss to Roger at Hamburg 2004. Even if he likes Nadal's game better I still find this level of disrespect annoying.

Guille has a lot of pride [to be hurt], perhaps too much, who knows? One thing for sure, he can't keep his mouth shut about anyone or anything -- could be a liability for him in the long run. He did say before Rogi beat him in Hamburg04 F that Rogi "has what I want" and he was referring to the No 1 position. I'm not sure if I've ever heard or read any complimentary comments fr Guille re: Rogi. Must check it out... it's a macho thingy.

Anyway, tonight's the night for Rogi to show his true level of tennis. ;)

Before the Davis Cup in Australia, at the press conference they asked Argentina something like "Do you think the Australian team is unbeatable on grass?" and Coria answered "...maybe if they are wearing a Roger Federer mask" or "...maybe if their name is Roger Federer". :yeah:

Coria cannot speak english well. Thus, more care in translating his comment in Spanish to english

If you guys get RDS, they are sowing it live

Unfortunately I don't have that channel. :(

Btw, just read this from the USO site:

The only 8 players that have a winning record against Roger are:

Tim Henman (6-4), Nalbandian (5-2), Thomas Enqvist (3-1), Alex Corretja (3-2), Dominik Hrbaty (2-0), Franco Squillari (2-0), Gustavo Kuerten (2-1) and Rafael Nadal (2-1).

Only 8 players on tour have a winning record against Rogi, that's pretty amazing.

It would be interesting if someone can somehow find out how many players had a winning record against Rogi going into USO 03.

One shot Roge had whole open court in front, went right to david instead, david hit CC fh winner and it pumped him up, he closed out
Never mind, Roge can break back soon (next game!)
Roge holds at love now, 4-3

This crowd is very strange. Quiet, shuffling around, eating, talking amongst themselves. Few claps here and there, few "Roge" few "david"

LCeh

How is David getting away with his 85-90 MPH second serve is beyond me. I look at the scoreboard and David is constantly serving weak second serves. Take your chance Rogi. :bounce:

Such a good hold. Roge has tricked david again- low slice by the net
On another time, he has played a beautiful FH (textbook says McEnroe)
Now Roge will break
Then Roge 2-sets up ! ALLEZ!

My God, david threw his racket so badly, that the head of the racket is separate from the stick :retard:. I can understand his frustration. Roge is on cruise control. will be very very difficult for david to get back in and win
