I don't see why fans couldn't purchase via online orders directly to Switzerland just like we did ordering his calendar. This is strange. I don't think we will ever get this DVD available in the US. We still can't order RF Colgne either.

I tried the site and like you say....it's not evident where the ORDER button is. LOL! There is a translation site that could help (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) but in this case it doesn't look like there is an order button any where.

On Roger's site, it was said that the format of the DVD won't work in the US at this point. If that's the case, then why did they first tell us there were legal reasons that they couldn't sell it within the US yet? Maybe they have sold the rights to some US distributor who will transfer this to our DVD format. However.....what's the deal with the different DVD formats anyway? Why would there be different formats?

This DVD is in code 2. You need to have the DVD player which can run code 2 DVDs or better a code-free DVD player.

I have to say I liked the DVD very much. I wished it could have lasted a bit longer, but it shows rare images of Roger and the interviews with various people are worth listening to. I didn't expect that Mr. Rogert Federer (Roger's father) could speak English that well! I cry all the time when I see Roger's interview in the center coart of Wimbledon after the final 2003.

I've never heard of code 2 before. In the US they talk about R- or R+ .

We might have to wait.....but I am afraid that means we'll never get it. I imagine there are all kinds of Federer items we are missing out on. Don't they have Federer action dolls and Federer lunch boxes in Switzerland?

I think the codes have to do with Regions (i.e., North America is Region 1). And I think this coding was done to prevent people overseas from seeing American movies that hadn't yet been released in their country. Often times a movie released in America won't be relased overseas for several months. Must be some sort of anti-piracy thing. But luckily I have a code free DVD player...now if I can just find a way to buy the DVD....

I went to www.citydisc.ch and went through all the steps to order the DVD. I was doing real well until I clicked "anmelden" and the order told me that they only ship to Switzerland and Liechtenstein ! I think the only way around this is to find a person in Switzerland to buy this and send it directly to us. Yes, or of course we can wait and let it up to chance if we ever get our hands on this DVD!

No point in doing that. I believe Europeans have differently formatted DVD just so they can control the rights, etc. Dumb Bastards. This seems like the natural time to play it on espn & then release it - you know, like during the tennis season, idiots........Grrrrrrr......

Don't be such a muffin! There are at least 5 regions for DVDs, and imo it's more likely that Americans would want to protect their commercial rights than any other region.

Anyway, what do you expect them to do - release it encoded as region one so only North Americans (and those with multi-region DVD players) can watch it? Of course they're going to release it as region two, so that those in their primary market (Switzerland) can see it easily.

Why couldn't they have released it in two markets at the same time? This thing about the formats is something most people in the US have never heard of. We don't know what our DVDs play or if they have a format at all. I think they are being conservative to think that their main market is Switzerland. I think Roger's appeal is more global and that other markets would bring even more sales.

I just know that I have wanted to buy the RF colgne for about two years and it's never been available in the US. I can't see why we can't order things online from Switzerland.

I think the rest of the world is only too aware of regional codes for DVDs, as it has been such a pain when we can't watch region one discs (North American); we've had to wait for our version to come out, or invest in a DVD player that plays discs from other regions. I'm slightly (but only slightly) surprised if Americans aren't aware of this.

Here's the lowdown on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region#Region_codes

The problem is if you own a dvd player which was produced for use in North America, the player is usually in code 1. That means you can only play dvds in code 1. If you have any movie on DVD, it should have a mark that indicates 1 for code 1, for people in Europe, you should see a mark 2 for code 2.

This Roger DVD from Switzerland is in code 2, so those of you in North America can't play the DVD, unless you own a code-free dvd player which can play any DVD player from all over the world, without mattering any code.

Here are the regions and codes.

Region code and Area
0. Informal term meaning "playable in all regions"
1. Bermuda, Canada, United States and U.S. territories
2. The Middle East, Europe, Egypt, Greenland, Japan, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland
3. Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Taiwan
4. Central America, Oceania, South America, Mexico
5. The rest of Africa, Eastern Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Mongolia, North Korea, Russia
6. Mainland China
7. Reserved for future use
8. International venues such as aircraft, cruise ships, etc.

For the licenced products like cosmetics and perfumes it depends on the countries covered by the contract between Roger and the licensee. I think for the moment it doesn't cover the US because it requires big investments in terms of distribution. I saw it in Poland though, strange strategy if that was official...

Yeah it's a great DVD, I enjoyed a lot watching his game improving over the years, since the junior time it's been amazing ! He's very relax and simple in the interview, as we like him... Becker comments are good, for once he doesn't put himself as the Wimbledon boss, which is good...
The only "less interisting" stuff is the Masters part taken from the ATP DVD "Facing Federer", already watched...
I hope you guys can see that all over the world...

Ste told me that the feature in German has other things which the English feature doesn't include, and she is right! If you understand both English and German, you should see both features. The interviews were seperately conducted in both German and English. They say basically the same things, but I noticed that Diana (Roger's sister) tells in German something else which she didn't say in the English interview. And the German feature shows other pictures, too, such as a small Roger with a birthday cake... :)
