Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

BUENA SUERTE TO NICO IN NEW YORK, NEW YORK!!!

Jan-Mike was a real force to be reckoned with a few years ago (especially on fast surfaces), but he seems to have gone downhill rapidly lately, and rarely makes the latter stages of tournaments. I saw Feña absolutely destroy him at Roland Garros a year or so ago - he definately doesn't have any tennis brain or idea of tactics. I guess the crowd support will be in his favour, but I think Nico should be OK :yeah:

I think so too - I'm really pleased with this draw. If he can make it to the 3rd round, I'll be really happy - considering his year, that will be a step in the right direction.

I crowd will be for Jan-Michael but Nico's used to that with Davis Cup.

I was at the US Open today - saw Nico practicing against Carlos...he was really focused, but seemed relaxed.

Have to say again - its sooooo nice to see Gaby there coaching Nico...it just feels like calm has been restored after such a disasterous year. :-)

I have some good pictures but it takes time because I have to reduce them for this site.

Sometime tomorrow.

And going back tomorrow for Practice Day so I hope to get more!

Only was able to see Nico once today in practice - at first he seemed a bit tense, but then I got a picture of him yawning...lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully he'll be awake tomorrow... ;)

Couldn't see his second practice because I think he was practicing on Armstrong to get used to the court for tomorrow, and Armstrong isn't open to the public on Practice Day.

I'm so nervous and scared... I don't know how he takes the pressure of this week after week. Its tough enough for his fans.

Also saw Gaby checking out Gambill practicing so hopefully he was able to pick up a few things and give Nico some good tips.

BTW - probably going to be rain days at the US Open on Tuesday and Wednesday because of a huge hurricane that is hitting New Orleans (poor New Orleans - such a fun crazy city - this s*cks for those people) and the hurricane remnants will come over to the NYC area by Tuesday.   I am crying for the US Open, but its going to be such a bad storm that the people of New Orleans are more important than the US Open so obviously feel more sorry for them than a tennis tournament. But still s*cks for the US Open too. No rain at all this summer, and as soon as the US Open starts - a storm hits...

Yes, - I've read about the storms - it's a shame for the US Open - but coming from rainy old England, I can't really complain!

I just hope it holds off until after today so Nico can complete his match - and also all the other people I like who are playing today like Gaston, Juan Monaco and Mariano (Puerta). Also - being selfish - today is a Public Holiday here -so it's the only day I can see the start of play and certainly the only day I'm awake enough to stay up and watch anything after the first match!!!

So - good luck to Nico and enjoy yourself - don't be too nervous - cheer loudly and I'll look for you on TV. By the way - have you seen Monaco, Puerta or the lovely Agustin Calleri practising? If you do - please give them a cheer from me!!!

Yes - he played well. I watched the match on TV and I was impressed - he was so much better than the last match I saw of his just a couple of weeks ago when he lost to Henman - must be Gaby's influence! Well done Nico - and good luck in the next round.

NicoFan

Nico looked so much better today! I was soooo proud of him. He was hitting the lines, just beautiful winners. Much more confidence, and while he let himself get upset a couple of times, unlike before, he was able to get himself under control quickly. Got a bit tight at the end, but again, was able to get himself calmed and won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I love this kid! He has so much fight in him. All these injuries, and yes, sometimes lets himself get down, but he's truly fighting.

And so much maturity to decide to get Gaby back.

You can see the results already!

Rosie - I couldn't see Gaston's match because it was the same time as Nico's. People that there told me that he kind of gave up - I wasn't there so can't say but such a talent and wish that someone would help him. Saw part of Puerta's match - last half of first set and the second set - what a great match! Didn't see it but was so bummed that Juan lost - I have good pictures of him from practice though this past weekend - just havne't had time to post them. And can't wait to see David - I was so bummed that he was never on a practice court where its easy to take pictures.

Thanks for the report Nico - and glad you enjoyed it! I looked for you on the TV (there weren't so many people there!), - but not knowing what you look like put me at a disadvantage - guess I was just looking for the person cheering Nico the loudest :) As for David - he is sadly lazy with practice at the best of times - so now he only has his brother "coaching" him - he's probably never on the practice court at all  Look forward to the pictures of cutiepie Juanito though - and hunky Mr. Puerta ;)

Actually there were a lot of people there after the first set - NYers are never there right at 11:00...lol! - but the way Armstrong Stadium is set up, the first like 8-10 rows are corporate seats and the endzones of the second tiers so everyone has to go on the second tier on the sides. So those seats were taken to up high but the TV doesn't show that. I guess the TV people have complained about it because it looks bad on TV to have empty seats.

And its also misleading because it was packed - too packed - everywhere on the grounds and stands yesterday. Had to wait in lines everywhere to get into courts.

Juanito is a adorable!!! So pissed he lost - I think he's in doubles though so I can catch him then.

Poor David!!! lol!!! Such a cutiepie, but yes, I can tell that practice isn't on his list of priorities... ;) The two times I saw him, he didn't stay out very long...lol!

Guess it's because the courts all hold so many people that they look empty even when they aren't! Remember I come from the Wimbledon culture where people queue overnight on the pavement just to queue again to pack into a small outside court holdng 500 people - now that is packed!!! NY always looks nice and roomy and spacious to me! Btw - what is the weather like there today? Any chance of play for me to watch when I get home from work?

I know that Mariano has to beat Wawrinka first, is just that I'm looking the draw and his name is the one that caught my attention, although Wawrinka would be very difficult and I agree I'd hate to see Nico and Mariano playing against each other but Nico needs this win more than Mariano, that's for sure.

Its Wawrinka..

I saw the first 2 1/2 sets, and then I wanted to catch Nico practicing. Both played kind of sloppy games. I was thinking through the entire time that if Nico could stay calm (yeah right...lol!) and just stayed focused, he'd beat either of them.

Probably kind of depends on how Wawrinka is serving - he has an awesome serve...when it goes in.

I would have rather seen Mariano. I think Mariano is huggable... :) ... so even though I would have been totally bummed if Nico lost to him, at least it would have been to a guy that I also like. I don't like Wawrinka so I'll be doubly bummed if Nico loses.

But he won't lose!

Well, of course I'm jealous Fergie and Gonzofan that you'll be able to see him on TV-because I doubt they'll have it on here-at least the whole match. Last time they had some but always switch b/t so many matches its drives a person crazy!

Good luck to Nico tomorrow! :hatoff: VAMOS NICO!!! :rocker:

VAMOS NICO!!!

YOU CAN DO IT!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I'll be there rooting him on! Nico has to win, because if he loses, I will cry...I don't want to think about not seeing him again for an entire year...

And buena suerte to the chicos in their doubles match. :)

To all the Chileans, Han Gildemeister was at Fena's match tonight...he seems so nice. And I sat next to Paul Capdeville's dad, he seems nice but since I can't understand spanish and he didn't seem to know english, I'm guessing...lol!!!

To Rosie - I have a David story for you - nothing big but he's such a sweetie. And congrats on his win tonight! Too bad he and Fernando have to play next... And I hated seeing Mariano lose to someone like Wawrinka too - these big serve only players are a dime a dozen, and they annoy me...but that's just my humble opinion... Hopefully Nico can take revenge.

I have lots of pictures of Nico and Fernando but will take me all next week to post them. Sorry...but I get there at 9:00 in the morning and don't get home until 10:00/11:00 at night.

And I hate big servers too  - just my opinion but I think they make the game something brutal and ugly to watch instead of something beautiful and artistic. Vamos Nico :)

So was I :) I watched this match on TV and could hardly recognise the Nico that played today with the sad, dispirited Nico I saw on our TV playing against Henman in the Masters' a few weeks ago. He had a few tight moments but he didn't lose his head - he focused and he won the match. I think Wawrinka was a bit tired after his marathon against Puerta two days ago, - but take nothing away from Nico (or Gaby!). Congrats to both!!

Great win for NICO!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

He was a bit tight at first, but the difference between now and pre-Gaby is that while he gets a bit frustrated, he's keeping his cool and hanging in there.

And once he won that first set, he relaxed, started playing more aggressive, and making some good shots. The Chilean fans were there rooting him on, and pretty much everyone else too.

Coria will be tough. Obviously.

But if Nico can keep control of his emotions, I really think that he has a chance.

Gaby knows Coria's game so I'm sure that he's coaching Nico very well right now.

VAMOS NICO!!!

But win or lose, getting to the 4th round at the US Open after such a rough year after only 2 weeks with Gaby is totally and completely awesome! :woohoo: His confidence is semi-back and that for me is one of the most important things.

First - I'm so sad that Fernando lost. Now I have to get myself psyched for Nico's match but hard to do thinking of how sad Fernando must be.

Nico really has to win the match against Coria tomorrow - we cannot have two Chilenos beaten by two Argentines on the same court in a 24 hour period. Just can't happen.

VAMOS NICO!!!

Fight fight fight!!! :boxing:

That was one incredible match - I think we should all be proud of Nico for the way he played and fought tonight. I'm certainly very proud of him for getting to the 4th round and doing so well - just sad that he had to lose to "El Tramposo" of all people  One day someone will do serious damage to Coria for his antagonistic attitude towards his opponents................OK - rant over - I admit I don't like Coria though he is a great player, so it hurts even more that Nico had to lose to him of all people! Anyway - this is Nico's Forum - so just to say - well done again to him and to Gaby for the tremendous work they've already done in their few short weeks back together. Good Luck for the rest of the season to both of them. And NicoFan .............. I know you'll be really sad right now, but try and remember the good memories and the good times of this years US Tour  OK - time for me to go to bed now - it's late here :wavey: for now.

And I missed the 2nd half of the match and don't know exactly what happened b/t him and Coria but knowing Coria it was bogus. Does the guy have any friends in the ATP????? Too bad he and Hewitt don't get along becasue they seem to be two of a kind.

Nico didn't fake his injury- I was there, and you could see him cramping up. And right from the beginning he was having problems - kept stretching - I've watched a lot of his matches - and he's never done that before. Something with his leg was bothering him. And he was tired by the 4th set - he doesn't have a lot of match play this year - and it seemed by the 4th set that he had run out of adrenline for awhile - and it wasn't hot hot but it wasn't cool out there today either.
