thz for d draw, i hope lee do well, he's d second highest rank asian player n only 1 of 2 asian in d miandraw!

whn i saw his opponent, i tot hes abit unlucky, draw against a seeded player n ancic's talented. but reading Hyung-Taik leads there head to head kinda made me feel more positive about this match. Fight on Lee!!

but i think he's d kind of ppl that will fight back to good form b4 he decide to retire, atleast i hope so!

yeh i taped it last nite n just watched it earlier, my taped ran out when hewitt leads 6-5 in d 4th set. then i check the score online to found out(to my surprise) lee won in a tie-break! im very happy for lee even at this point becos he had so many chances n bad luck during d match n bad calls against him, so happy he atleast even it out.:yeah: hope he can pull thru!

but i dont find the crowd too one sided at all except for the aussie fanatics which is understandable. i felt the crowd really wanted lee to take the forth set when he was up 5-4. but yeh lee's been around for some time so i think the true tennis fans do know who he is. :)

this match is good quality from both players n i like the commentary from aust tv presenters, they praised lee's efford n shot making quite often.

Great tournament for Lee :yeah: He demolished most of his opponents.
Also through to the QF of this week's Busan Challenger.

Btw, how come there are 2 Busan challengers in one year? According to his points breakdown, he already won the Busan Challenger in May. Is it a totally different tournament?

What's the story of Korean tennis? ALL of the Koreans playing in Busan this week were either WCs or Qualifiers (including Lee  ). It seems that Lee is the only Korean inside the top 300. What are they going to do when he retires?

Lost 6-4 6-3, but I actually thought he put up very good resistance against Federer. He prooved again that he can always be dangerous, against any player on any surface.

Here's the Barca draw:

(1) NADAL, Rafael ESP v BYE
SANGUINETTI, Davide ITA v VLIEGEN, Kristof BEL
LEE, Hyung-Taik KOR v JOHANSSON, Thomas SWE
GAUDIO, Gaston ARG v (13) SODERLING, Robin SWE

Another Swede in the first round but I think he should win. After that, it's a little more tough but I wouldn't rule out his chances against another Swede or a struggling Gaudio.

Obviously, he's not going to make it past Nadal. :(

HT is through to his first main tour semi-final since Tokyo last year.

He'll definitely enter the top 40 for at least one week but he then has the Lexington Challenger points which come off after next week so he'll need to continue this form to stay there. Beating Blake would certainly consolidate his position there. COME ON H-T!!!

chewy
07-21-2007, 04:46 AM
what do you think of lee's chances against blake Jimnik? They've only met once back in 2003 also on hardcourt Blake won 6-3 6-2.
apart from the obvious difference in their rankings, lee haven't been past the QFs this year till now and blake will also have the american crowd behind him.

lots of things going against lee, but he's got alot of experience and i'm sure more confidence at this stage of his career.

Jimnik
07-21-2007, 09:37 PM

Jimnik
07-25-2007, 07:41 AM
Unfortunately, Betfair have decided to only show the semi-final and final of Indianapolis so I had to follow the SB.

Yeah I didn't see it but I'm guessing H-T just took his foot off the gas when he was 6-2 5-1 up and Young probably played like he had nothing to lose. It happens sometimes but good to see that it didn't cost him this time.

Next up is Goldstein, another winnable match, and if he can pull it off he'll have defended most of his points from the Lexington Challenger last year. Keep it up H-T. :yeah:

Great that he won today. Now he can relax playing Andy because he has nothing to lose and he's already defended most of his points. He'll probably stay in the top 40 this week.

this pattern is uncanny, if roddick can figure out this puzzle in his game he can be so much better than he is atm.

Jimnik
07-28-2007, 01:23 PM
He again put up stern resistance against an American top 10 player. Shame that he couldn't keep the momentum going in the 3rd but Andy is even tougher playing in front of his home crowd.

It was another good tournament and he's going to be playing again next week in Washington so he can keep the momentum going. Keep it up HT. :yeah:

GABASHVILI, Teimuraz RUS v (SE) NISHIKORI, Kei JPN
KUNITSYN, Igor RUS v GROSJEAN, Sebastien FRA

Well, he hasn't quite reached the heights of Srichaphan yet. If he makes it into the top 10 then I'm sure he'll get a forum of his own.

Speaking of which, poor Paradorn will drop outside the top 100 for the first time since 2001 after next week. He hasn't played since Miami which means that H-T will soon be Asia's only representative in the top 100.

As for the singles, it's Murray whom he played in San Jose this year. He lost in a 3rd set TB but if he can keep it close he should be able to outlast his much younger opponent. Muzza's fitness is never certain and it took him 5 sets to get past Bjorkman.

German ES did show the end of the match, they joined it at 2-2 in the 3rd. Davydenko is just playing exceptionally well. He wasn't giving any UEs away and just painting the lines with most of his shots.

But still it was a great experience and valuable ranking points were gained as he heads for the Asian season where he has lots to defend. Namely SF appearances in Beijing and Tokyo as well as Davis Cup action against Slovakia.

Nice draw. Actually many people in GM believe he can take the title but I just wonder if he'll have the Davis Cup in the back of his mind. He'll want to get to Slovakia as early as possible to adjust to the clay courts.

IMO he really should have entered Bucharest instead which would have given him a better preparation and a shorter trip to Slovakia. But considering he didn't do it last year (when he was actually playing Romania :p) it was obvious he wouldn't do it this year.

5-7 7-6 4-6

Well, as it turns out, neither player was at his best. H-T at times looked a little disinterested and it must have been hard to focus with all the rain delays and Gonzalez constantly throwing tantrums. In fact it almost cost him the 2nd set because he was 6-1 up in the TB and then Gonzalez got so angry he smashed his racket against the floor, twice. It almost worked too because he saved the next 4 SPs and the 5th was very nervy but thankfully H-T held on and at least made him play a 3rd set. Unfortunately Gonzalez played a lot better towards the end and H-T just couldn't keep up but I kind of got the impression that his mind wasn't totally on the job.

The weather forecast in Beijing over the next few days is mostly rain so he's probably happy to be out of there and on a flight to Slovakia to get ready for the Davis Cup. He'll need time to adapt to the clay courts again.

If he's top 40 at the age of 31 maybe he could have cracked the top 20 at the age of 24/25 growing up in a tennis environment.

Btw, perfect Davis Cup weekend. Lee really demonstrated why he's ranked so high and was never in trouble in any of his matches.

Can't wait for the World Group next year. I hope they get a home tie because I would love to see all the Korean fans at a tennis match. Especially since they don't have a main ATP tour event.

Horrible draw for Korea. Even if they pull off the miracle against Germany they then play away to Spain.

It seems whenever they play someone good they're stuck with an away tie.
