Alex Corretja def. Gaston Gaudio: 6-3, 6-1  :(

My god Corretja must be playing very well, first he defeated Costa in straight sets and now Gaudio, and the sets were not even close.

Juanqui lost the set in a tiebreak 7-2. I hate it when he has to play tiebreaks. He fought so hard to come back from 5-2 to 5-5, then had breakpoints and blew them. Zabaleta had 3 set points at 6-5 but couldn't convert. But then it was all over. GRRRRRRR!!!! :fiery:

FIGHT, JUANQUI!

Layla

3-1 for Ferrero! This match is fantastic, a real crowd pleaser. Zabaleta produced some killer shots down the line and Ferrero is in great form but he played better yesterday and had a very shaky start to this match.

Layla
07-27-2002, 02:37 PM

Layla

Interview with Ferrero:

INT: Congratulations, a very impressive win, I think today you had to fight, yesterday you had to fight, so how do you feel right now?

JCF: I feel a little bit tired , you know, because I won two difficult matches against the Argentine players so I think I'm in the final against another Spanish player, so everything is perfect right now.

INT: So what was deciding today?

JCF: You know I think it was a very difficult match against Zabaleta, because he's playing so well, he served very strong all the time and I had to play really good again, like yesterday, to win the match.

INT: He had many chances to break you, especially in the end. Do you think he did something wrong, did you play better?

JCF: I think I played very well, I mean maybe he did a little mistakes with 0-40 for him with my serve at 4-4, but it's tennis, you know. Sometimes you have to win and then you lose. You know, it's tennis.

INT: How is it to play tennis against a friend - tomorrow the final, Alex Corretja?

JCF: I know he's my friend but so many times we play against Spanish players and it's not easy but we have to play. It's the world of tennis. So maybe tomorrow is gonna be for sure a tough match.

INT: How would you consider your form right now, compared to Paris, compared to the beginning of the year?

JCF: I think here I'm better, I mean physically. In Roland Garros I was injured a little bit of my ankle and I couldn't play like my level but here I feel so great, you know, with the altitude, the support of the people and here in Kitzbuhl is a wonderful tournament. It's nice to play here.

INC: Will you go out tonight as well or just concentrate on tennis.

JCF: All the days I went a little bit... go out to a ???? (haven't got a clue) but until twelve is ok, so tonight is gonna be the same for the final tomorrow.

INT: Thank you very much. Good luck and have fun here.

JCF: Thank you.

I transcribed this interview for the Austrian TV from the tape.

Thanks Layla. :)
Interesting. Its good to see hes feeling good. I really look forward to see how he will be next week on the hard. :)

And tomorrow I will be cheering for Alex, but good luck to both! :D

You're welcome, hitman. :D

Yeah, he looked very sharp out there and the crowd was great. He had a lot of support during this match, but then so does Alex. There's this chorus of youngsters that keeps chanting the name of their favorites. If I'm not mistaken, they were the loudest when it came to Corretja. During the Ferrero/Zabaleta match they chanted FERRERO-CORRETJA. Well, they got what they wanted. And so did I!!!! :D :bounce:

I'll be cheering for Juanqui tomorrow (of course), but I wouldn't mind seeing Alex win. I love them both and if Ferrero has to lose to someone I would rather that player is Alex than somebody else. :)
