As seen on another board

Blake is no doubt a talent who has managed to display some unbelievable shots that is worthy of a higher ranking but the question in the end is always the same “if only he could string it all together”. But for Blake it has become a well worn excuse. he has been someone that media and fans have had being on the verge of making it big time but hell think about it …we’ve been saying that for a number of years now.

He has the obvious talent but it’s his choice ultimately to what his career outcome will be. But you know there are a lot of tennis pros out there with just as much talent who get nil publicity. Fans can ultimately fall back on a number of excuses for him, bad luck and setbacks in life, lack of confidence, poor shot selections, new coach needed..…whatever.

I’m sorry to say that watching him at the Legg Mason tournament this week I am finally convinced that Blake is now just destined to be ranked somewhere in the top 100 but never in the top 10. He does get a lot of publicity for his good looks and being a nice guy he is a tennis promoters dream and he knows it and so does his manager.

Don’t get me wrong folks I have watched him over the years and I actually thought he had the right attitude and dedication towards his “tennis” career to maybe make something of it. Because of this he was one player who never turned up with the usual assortments of hot babes hanging on as an accessory to the tennis pro life and I actually respected him for that. It was actually refreshing that he had this maturity about him.

This week I noticed he now has a Paris Hilton look a like/model/actress want to be en tow forever looking to see if there was a camera pointed her way. Oh well he’s succumbed to the perks of the standard tennis pros life.

Maybe it was all pr after all

and.....................

You say “he continues to rise up the ranking” yep that’s right and having no points to defend this year will do it. Hell he just has to turn up at tournaments and he’ll gain points. Look at the Legg Mason draw and you’ll realize making the final wasn’t from any new found tennis prowess but it came about because he had the easiest draw. He could have won the match but again he choked. He just doesn’t possess what the public have been led to believe.

He may be stated as a nice guy but it’s what we’ve been fed through publicity and he and his manager are also acutely aware of the public’s conception of him as well. He is the proverbial tennis marketers dream. The tennis hierarchy promoted him with enormous amounts of publicity. It amazes me that the word Harvard is associated so closely to him but does anyone take a closer look at this marketing word. In fact he is “a drop out” but I guess with the prestige of the word Harvard against your name……. its ok. public relations at its finest.

Don’t get me wrong I believed in him and at one stage had the opinion that this man was unique and refreshing towards his goals with his tennis career, he just didn’t have the same attitude as some of the tennis pros. How wrong I was. James is very controlling of what the media presents him as, but from what I’ve seen of him without cameras or a reporter around he appears to be completely different.

I guess that is the same story for anyone leading a public life. Yeah good luck to him he does need it with his stripper/tennis groupie Paris Hilton look-a-like to feed his publicity induced belief in himself. At least he's having the guts to show his true side.

Great, as if it wasn't bad enough reading that dreck at TW, someone actually moved it over here. That guy sounds perturbed that James didn't sign his magazine or something. If he has a legitimate example of some of James' 'bad behavior' I would love to hear it, but he has never offered any. Is James a saint? Of course not, he's human. But that doesn't mean that he isn't a pretty decent guy more often than not.

Yes thats what I thought and Fee's comments were of great value as well.

The person obviously hasnt a life based on reality, only one that it is based on fantasy and dreams on their part.

Hey Bully :wavey:

You know, when I saw that post over there, I started to write a response, then I just decided it absolutely wasn't worth the time. He's convinced himself he saw something scandalous, which would probably be normal to the rest of us, so okay, whatever. Not worth my time.

 I love it when people assume to know the private lives of others, and the thoughts going through other people's heads. Indeed. James, what a loser! Not in the top ten, and he has a hot woman by his side. How dare he :haha:

How dare he :haha: :hug:And don't forget the near career-ending (if not almost permanently paralyzing) injury, the father's death, and the debilitating illness, all of which he survived - god forbid the guy has a little fun and enjoys life right now!!!
