Thanks mitalidas :bounce: Roger so cute and funny and damn honest there

And Roger mentioned he was happy how he played the tournament, esp the semi and final  Anyway...

He was just so great to win the tournament even playing way below par, but had to pick it all up where it counted, in the final. That's so admirable. Roger, you are just out of this world!

Now on to USOpen. I believe we will have another 2 exciting weeks to cheer for our great champ and superb tennis player! Go Roger!

[QUOTE=oneandonlyhsn]Roger you guys I am beyond happy

I completely mistimed this - and missed the whole thing! Poor Andy seems to have a bad case of "Federitis"!! I had the faith in that mental strength that carried him through the early rounds - its just awesome. I so admire him for that. If only I had a fraction of it. Well done Roger ... now for the USO..... :worship: :worship: :worship:

yeah roger
played much better than the rest of the week
don't know if it's just roddick, but roger seems to return faster serves so much better than the slower ones

I think Roger returned Roddick's serves better than the Ginepri serves. I really think that Roger was playing rather well against Ginepri but he was just a different type of problem for Roger. With Roddick he knows very well what his weaknesses are.

So for that reason, I also hope we get a Federer v. Roddick final at the USOpen.

Beautifully done, Rogi~~absolutely terrific

He made such a nice speech, too.

I wonder if everyone could see through Andy's gamesmanship moves~~pretty obvious, to me~~~but Roger would have won, no matter what...
22 straight finals~~WOW~~

Now it's on to the Open.
I never had any doubts about this one~~honestly.

All questions by Mary Carillo in italics

Andy's speech (whatever I could quickly type):
Well first of all how're you doing?
I only felt te foot around 5-all, so hopefully its okay
I dont know what to tell you right now, hopefuly i'lll be okay come nyc
he also said that before 5 all Roger was already kicking his butt.

poor Andy, you could feel his frustration as soon as he hit that double fault in the first set at 2 all. The serves kept him hanging on.

glad to hear some loud Roger supporters in the public. so who was the girl with the huge Swiss flag? ;)

i wished the commentators kept quite for a bit during Carillo's on-court interview so we could hear it in English, but they kept translating...lol, the Italian guy is worse, he never stops talking even during play! but i wont complain cuz at least we had coverage. you've got to love the hating after every tournament.... he was lucky, he had an easy draw, men's tennis is weak blah blah blah. my favorite was last year when someone likened roddick's record against rogi to the redsox not winning the world series for ages, and how maybe at the masters cup it would be his moment to end the roger curse

what really amazes me sometimes is the hypocrisy on this board, it's boring when rogi wins evrything and great when nadal does... that breath of fresh air the claycourt season and it's variety of winners was supposed to bring seems to have gotten rather stale

this is really funny, i know so many duck fans who didn't like nadal to begin with but it seems that after miami and the french, membership in the nadal fanclub doubled, many of the new members just happend to be duck fans, my sister included. nadal got a couple of bad calls in miami and all of a sudden it was as if that was the first time it had ever happened in tennis. everyone was so desperate to see how nadal would do on hardcourts this summer and of course rogi won this week because his draw was easy while nadal's wasn't and it was just pure genius  not too long ago you couldn't start a thread in gm about rogi without having people go nuts, but when every thread was about nadal nobody complained. everyone is just loving the fact that there's a chance roger might not end the year #1, only a thousand and one threads have been dedicated to the topic. i hope roger does really really well for the rest of the season and puts an end to it.

You fans pay too much attention to the haters. I have been gulity of doing it in the past and sometimes still catch myself doing it. You just need to realize that many of them weren't Roger fans back in the early parts of his career and now hate it that he destroys so many of their faves. I find it sad that they can't learn to like someone so nice and classy and really great for the game when it comes to youngsters looking up to someone on the court and off the court. Roger will do more for the development and growth of kids's abilities tennis wise than any of the so called more charismatic players.

Just follow Federer and enjoy his progress. I was around supporting him since 01 and never thought he would do the things he is doing now. We tend to avoid talking trash about other players and posters here; I would like to keep it that way.

I don't see a lot of Roger hating in GM right now. But I do agree about the hypocrisy regarding Nadal. It's boring when Roger wins all the time and dominates the tour, yet no one complains about Rafa and his domination. And what's sad is those who openly cheer against Roger when he's NOT playing one of their favs. Or all the new Nadal fans who are fans only because Nadal has a chance to overtake Roger at #1. I can understand Roger not being some peoples favorite player, but I can't understand why anyone could dislike him as a person. I mean he's not arrogant or full of himself, he doesn't act like a jerk on court (or off court), he doesn't speak ill of other players, and most, if not all, players have nothing but good things to say about him. So I don't know how anyone could not like him as a person.

Congaratulations to the man and his supporters.

I read a couple of his interviews on Cincy's site. There are a few things to worry about. I've got the impression that his feet had never been healed and can flare up again in a long 5 setter. Also there's a new thing with the pain in the shoulder/chest area. Of course, he downplays both injures as the USO is right around the corner. That's what happens when someone plays an insane amount of matches. Let's hope his body will hold up through at least next 7 matches in NY.

@Oneandonlyhsn, glad you posted the physical concerns - saved me the trouble. When people were kind enough to quickly transcribe & post his victory comments, somehow his comment about NYC being best of 5, and the anxiety betrayed by his mentioning it betrayed, was not transcribed. Clearly he's concerned about his feet holding up.

Also, somewhere I just read - post-match interview? - that when barely not prevailing @AO he had a foot problem that was on the bone - Yikes. (Maybe it's just 'cuz I'm so fond of Roger, but it irks me when people talk about his 3 losses this yr. One was due to exhaustion in a tournament in which he shouldn't have been entered - Monte Carlo - and another was due to foot problems compounded by Lundgren coaching Safin. He was only really defeated, as in outplayed when healthy in one match - Paris semi by Thuggy. Lest someone think I'm being unfair, recall Roger's comments after defeating Hewitt recently @Wimby. Someone mentioned that he had recently defeated him @IW. Roger said that did't count because Hewitt had foot problems there & couldn't play well. That's Roger's standard & I think it should go both ways - if one wants to measure the superior player.)
