Pete Sampras tuned up for an assault on a possible sixth Wimbeldon title in the best possible way yesterday, when he fought to a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over Tim Henman to claim his first 1999 title, at the Queen's Club.

The American, who wasted two set points in the opening set, had not lifted a title since last October in Vienna and played his last final in November at Paris Bercy, where he lost to Brit Greg Rusedski.

Today's victory in two hours, 30 minutes runs the Sampras record over British No. 1 and third seed Henman to 5-0.

''This year has not been that great for me,'' said the winner, who turned his year around in 1998 with a Wimbledon triumph. ''I had to get through a third-set tiebreaker today just like in my semi-final (against australian Lleyton Hewitt).

''It's nice to be back on the grass. This week has been a struggle,'' he said.

Sampras had to tough out a third-set tie-breaker to secure the tight contest. He moved into position with a reflex, off-balance lob which landed good and then earned two match-points from a Henman error.

The 27-year-old American, an 11-time Grand Slam winner, scooped a forehand into the empty court to take victory and a prize of 85,000 dollars.

''My serve has ben working well,'' said Sampras, the 1995 champion at the west London Venus. ''I was fortunate today, Tim was close to beating me.''

Sampras levelled the match at a set apiece, but faced multiple break points in the deciding third.

I was crying too, it was really horrible match...

a fw losses hurt
especially the fianls the last couple of years he didnt win
the san jose loss to agassi in 2001, & to Haas
the US open semis loss to rafter, AO finals loss to Agassi
the 2 US open finals to Safin & hewiit hurt like hell

No i was making a prediction or wat the Headline might have been (FOR FUN) It woulda been so amazing and so funny if Agassi had beaten Pete there, because he was the first to win Wimbledon anyway. imagine what a story it woulda made after his retirement, like it woulda added to the "Agassi/Pete Legacy" I think the biggest shame was that they never faced one another at FO, If Pete had beaten him there it woulda been big because Agassi had petes number on the crappy courts of the Aussie Open (which are anti Serve Volleyer). Which is WHy pete has to come back and win the french open against Andre in the final :)

Anyways the more likely outcome woulda been Pete beating Andre in 3 sets (especially cos of the effect of the grass on his serve volley skills which woulda been more deadly than at the USO).

Anyway pete HINT uve never Beaten Andre at Aus Open or been able to beat (because uve never versed) him at the FO. Hmmm I think theres unfinished business to attend to.

Well your first and foremost place to look would be EMULE, it's a P2P network, but many tennismatches can be found there. The quality differs and some are incomplete ( I should know ... :) )

2ndly u could find torrents (I put the link in the PETE VIDEO topic), all u need is an agent (software) like ABC and you'll donwload matches in no-time.

You can also just buy them on the internet, but that'll cost ya ...

Pete`s matches, recently thanks to ESPN Classic Sport channel, because they show many tennis matches (long fragments of matches), for example I was watching Australian Open 1995 final Sampras - Agassi two weeks ago...
