Such a shame.

He seems to be on the verge of a break through. Hope he takes a lot of confidence from these close matches.

Until recently all his success had been at Futures level but got a SF at a challenger in the last month.

Hope this is the start of good things for Richard.

Richard won a Futures event in Belgium yesterday. Last Monday his ranking had moved up to 288, and this should show a further rise tomorrow.

Ah. Actually, his ranking has gone down to 302. He must have had a lot of points coming off from this time last year, unless the ATP don't add this tournament until next week. Anybody know?

steven
11-07-2005, 01:00 AM
It's because points from Futures always go on a week late and (indirectly) because of a change in the Belgian Futures schedule this year.

Last year, the first Belgian Future was at Waterloo in week 43, Richard reached the Final it's those 12 points that have come off his ranking this week.

In both years, the St Katelijne-Waver Future was in week 44 - last year Richard reached the semis (6 points) whereas this year of course he won it (18 points), so he has a net 12 points to go on the rankings at the end of this week, which will take him back into the top 300.

This year, the equivalent of the Waterloo Future is in week 45 (i.e. this coming week) and I'm not sure whether Richard's in there or not - he was hoping to go to the Nashville Challenger but missed the main draw cut and was not able to get away from Belgium in time for qualifying, for obvious reasons! If he doesn't play this week, he'll have the same points from Belgian Futures as he got last year - 18 for the SKW win c.f. 12 for the Waterloo Final and 6 for the SKW SFs last year.

Hope that makes sense!

Seems quiet on this thread lately. A good couple of weeks for Richard. Semis in Southampton last week and at least semis this week should see him on the edge of the top 200 on monday just shy of his highest ever ranking.

There's a really great article in this months 'British Tennis' magazine, where they have done an interview/report on Richard, his off season training, tennis facilities in the UK amongst other things.

The most notable thing mentioned was this:

In the latter (referring to the Davis Cup) Bloomfield has never had a chance to prove himself. To say he's disappointed about that is an understatement.
"I think I'm the only player in the British top 15 to have never been picked, even just as a squad member or a hitting partner," he says, looking downcast.
"There was one time when I had a good chance of being in the team. I got a pretty lame excuse from [the then captain] Jeremy Bates and it hurts me a bit. He said I was quite a shy person and he wasn't sure how I'd be in a team situation. If you don't get picked, at least the reason could be a better excuse than that."

:o

How can Bates talk about personality yet have Bogdanovic in the team? Who is most probably one of the least motivated and committed Davis Cup player I have seen

Hopefully with Lloyd at the helm and a good start to the season there should be no reason Richard isn't selected against the Netherlands. By George he deserves it...

that is just the worst reason ever-sorry mate, you're too shy to play davis cup. it's like telling ljubcic you're too boring, or telling federer you're too good.
bogdanovic has the personality and interlect (so i've been reliably informed) of a plank of wood and rejected the chance to play, so he shouldn't be in the running for a place

Richard Bloomfield's stunning start
to 2007 has propelled the Norfolk
professional into the Davis Cup
reckoning, according to new coach
Peter Lundgren.
The 23-year-old from Alpington
reached the final of an LTA
Challenger event for the first time
in his career in Wrexham at the
weekend and his performances in
Wales caught the eye of Lundgren .
The Swedish coach - who has been
given a two-year contract with the
British Davis Cup team
admitted Bloomfield is in pole
position to earn a shock call-up for
April's must -win clash agains t
Holland in Birmingham.
"This is the first time I've seen
Richard play and he's done very
well," said Lundgren , who guided
Roger Federer to the top of the
world game.
"He's got a big serve and his game
looks to be in good shape and there's
no reason at all why he can't make
the team by April.
"Andy Murray and Tim Henman
are the only players assured of their
places - after that the players who
are in form will play.

Bloomers struggled in Wroclaw and won't play now till Week 8.

Pity he couldn't get the right entries sorted while he was in form. The challenger calendar is all over the place. Some weeks have 5 events, and others have just 1, or 0!

Bloomers draws 3rd Seed Alexander Peya in Besancon main draw...

Peya is ranked 105 currently and, on paper, has too much for Richard.

I'd like to see Richard rip the paper up!

Wolfsburg 25K Week 9

Bloomers originally drew fellow brit Josh Goodall, but then Ivo Minar withdrew and Bloomers was moved to 8th seed.

He'll face Ivo Klec of Slovakia in R1 and is scheduled to meet Peya again in the qf's.

Another Brit, Alex Bogdanovic beat Klec 7-6 7-6 in Wroclaw. With Bloomers serve against Klec's looks like it will be a match of a few chances.

Hope Bloomers can take them!

johnnylad

But is through to singles QF's.

He beat Simon Stadler 7-6 6-3 and gets a rematch with Austria's Alexnader Peya who is top seed at this tournament.

THey play "not-before" 3.30 in Germany today!

Roland Garros qualifying saw him lose to Ramon dElgado, which is not too embarrassing but he did serev for the second set and choke to love then capitualte which is never good for confidence.
