NO!

lol!!!! :D

Yes, I think they can meet in the finals, but I don't want them to. Right now Nico isn't 100%, but it will still bum him out if he loses to Fernando. And last time, Fernando and Nico played in Vina in 2004, as much as I adore Fena, he didn't behave really well. Shouting the entire match, and then at the end when he won, pounding his chest. Nico doesn't need that now.

Well our Nico isn't a angel on court either ;) ... And I prefer that Nico lose with Feña because this means that will reach an important round in the tournament than with another player :)

Or better of course, I prefer that Nico take the title here :yeah:

No, despite my avatar, Nico is not an angelito. ;) Though to me he is...lol!

But its different when an amigo does it than when just another opponent does it.

And I do love Fena!!! :D Although during that match, the love disappeared momentarily.

And I would definitely prefer Nico take the title also! He desperately needs to have something good happen to him this year. Fena already has had a lot of success this year and can afford to lose.

Oh,oh...I'm staying out of this one! lol! I just want both chicos to play their best and hope both of them go far and if that means they meet in the final so be it. I'll be gone next week and perhaps that's a good thing!

Both have given me reason to be proud of them in their last tournaments and I hope both continue winning-I would love to see both in the top 15 by the end of the year.

But this is Nico's board...it should be for rooting for Nico, not rooting for Fena over Nico.

And I'm worried about him - he's a hurting puppy now. I just want to see him winning again. Fena has won a lot this year - its Nico's turn - my angelito...lol!

Normally I would like it too - if Nico was 100%

My only point in all of this is that Nico isn't 100% - he was exhausted last week at the SFs and had to have a shot just to play.

And if he has to play Fena, and Fena beats him the way Gaston did, he's going to be totally bummed.

He's battling his confidence, and worry about his physical health - this isn't what he needs right now - the added pressure of playing his friend with all of Chile watching thinking its going to be this close battle.

But just my humble opinion, and I'll be the only one on the board that isn't thrilled if it does happen. ;)

You make a good point about Nico, Nicofan. There is a long way to go before that happens tho-anything could happen along the way to the finals almost 2 weeks away. I can't wish bad luck to either so just hope it all works out. :) It will be interesting to see what the draw is. There is always the #1 seed to contend with for one of them (Nico?) before the final. Not that either one couldn't beat him but just saying all this Nico vs Fena final isn't a done deal so to speak. I guess I'm just fatalistic about it-what happens happens and both will make the best of their chances. And no matter what happens I think Nico has really matured these last months and I think he can deal better with whatever comes. I have been really impressed with his recent interviews-he is a fighter with talent and heart and he's on his way back! And he has been flashing that sexy smile of his all over the place which is a good sign too! :hearts:

I do like Fena a lot - he's my second favorite...he's a little sweetie. :) I've followed him as much as I have Nico, even though Nico is my favorite over the two.

But sometimes like yesterday, I get tired of the comparisons. They are two different people, even though they are good friends and very close. And people always link them together which is nice in one way but not in another.

I was at the US Open last year, and everyone around me kept saying how muh like brothers they were and how much they even looked alike. I was like are you people blind? They are nothing alike - they don't look like one another, they have totally opposite personalities. lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are close friends which is very obvious when you see them in person so maybe that's why people think they are so much alike.

Nico right now is going through a down period, but Fena's been down too - I've watched both since 2002. Fena was up at that time, and Nico was down. But in mid-2003 through the end of 2004, it was Nico that was up, and Fena was down. Now in 2005, Fena is up, and Nico is down because of injuries.

I wish they were both doing well at the same time now and again! :)

Hmmm - can't see anything "entertaining" in their unsporting and ridiculous antics  My least favourite player against one I am not so keen on either ..........! I want Argentina to win the tie because David's in the Team and I know how happy it will make him - but there is no way I can cheer for "El Tramposo" Just glad it was on at 2.00am here and I was fast asleep.

I must have a warped sense of humor, but I find the bad boy behavior amusing. Must be the NYer in me. Plus I can't stand Lleyton either so I get a kick out of more bad press for him.

And don't know why I like Guille - he's unpleasant oncourt, and is totally immature. Some things can never be explained. ;)

But your David (mine too cuz I really like David) will definitely save the day for Argentina (vamos Argentina!!). :worship: He'll win today and then beat the crap out of Lleyton...of course on court. ;)

I have gotten angry at times too but its rare. Like I was very mad at Nico during his match with Sargsian at the US Open last year and he behaved so terrible - thought he should have apologize to Sarge. And got mad at Fena during Vina 2004 when he played Nico and behaved poorly.

But I forgave them..lol! The next day when I saw Nico's cute little face... ;) ... I said nope I can't possibly be mad at my angelito. Ditto Fena though took a couple weeks.

I think David will cope with it  He's getting better as he gets older anyway - suppose it's just a case of him growing up and getting more mature, plus when his Father died it really changed him because I guess it made him realise how unimportant a tennis match is in the great scheme of things. Still has his moments though

This article is from El Mercurio (INTERNET TRANSLATION)

The Meeting is in New York

The verbal agreement between Nicolas Massú and the Argentine coach Gabriel Markus already is. The viñamarino has maintained permanent contact with the "German" since Rodriguez broke contact itself with , and if they have now not seated to confirm his new entailment is, simply, by the temporary commitment that the trasandino assumed with the American Vincent Spadea.

As it is known, the Olympic champion and his father, Manuel, handled like second option to the Brazilian Larry Passos, but that alternative is almost discarded.

"We handled other options, is truth, but if as much Gabriel as Nicolas wants to work together, no longer is worth the trouble to give many returns to the subject", commented yesterday the father of the national player.

The also representing of two number Chilean added that in the U.S. Open they will seat to settle the subject.

"Gabriel finishes then his relation with Spadea and is free. We will hope until then speaking more in depth, although Nico has talked permanently with him ", added Manuel Massú.

The tennis player was training until yesterday in Madrid - where it is easier to obtain sparrings of quality and course to Holland traveled yesterday, where it will dispute from the next Monday the ATP of Amersfoort.

There Fernando González will be united to him, who yesterday concluded his training with Horacio de la Peña in Santiago.

Number one of Chile finally chose to return to the circuit before post Wimbledon finishes to the season of clay, and confirmed that it will as much do dupla with Massú in Amersfoort as in Kitzbühel.

Yeah, I'm sad that Fena and Nico will meet in the SFs - was hoping that it wouldn't be until the finals. I hate the idea of rooting against Fena - I've only rooted against him when he played Nico in Vina 2004.

And Fena will probably win because Nico still isn't 100% - he was exhausted at the end of the week and Gstaad, so it will be very hard for him. Oh well, even if he loses in the SFs to Fena, he will have defended his points from last year.

Also don't like Fena's draw in that he plays Nico L. in the 2nd round. Nico L. is also a cutiepie - hate rooting again him, but obviously will root for Fena.

I don't know how Nico dropped when there were no tournaments this past week but he dropped to number 31.

This makes it more imperative for him to win here in Amersfoort and get further this year - finals would be nice or win the tournament. Now I'm more disgusted that he's meeting Fena in the SFs - but the good news is that Fena has to transition from grass to clay, and he hasn't played since Wimbledon so even though Nico doesn't feel 100%, he's got to get so psyched for that match and just do it no matter how tired he feels. :fiery: Can't afford to lose that match! Cuz Puerta will be tired too after playing DC and jet lag. Perfect opportunity.

Vamos NICO!!! No mercy, who cares about friendship with points on the line ;) , and kick a*s in Amersfoort!!! :armed: Dig deep here NICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NicoFan
07-18-2005, 01:18 PM
And now I wish he wasn't playing doubles.

It will be too exhausting for him to do both. Singles are far more important at this point. Preparing for DC has to take a back seat.

If I only talk to him for 5 minutes ;) , I'd tell him to dump the doubles!!!!!

NicoFan
07-18-2005, 04:26 PM
Well can't count on Fena's transitioning over from grass to clay since he kicked his first round opponent's butt. ;)

It will be too exhausting for him to do both. Singles are far more important at this point. Preparing for DC has to take a back seat.

If I only talk to him for 5 minutes ;) , I'd tell him to dump the doubles!!!!!

Actually I agree with you. :) Nico was a bit injured,no?And he is not in form right now, maybe he wants to find his form by real matches. But if he is exhausted,he can retire the doubles,I don't mind that much. What I think is ATP single match is much more important than DC and doubles and everything for they players. http://www.mysmilie.de/english/green/smilies/cool/img/004.gif

The match among both was planned in the second match of the Court Central of the Sporting Club Bokkeduinen, near the 07:30 hours of Chile.

Article from Radio Coopertiva about the match:

More difficulties than expected gave the French Nicolas Thomann to the viñamarino, who finally was imposed for 6-4 and 6-2.

Nicolas Massú (31º) surpassed a complicated match before the little accustomed French Nicolas Thomann (311º) to advance to the second round of the tournament of Amersfoort, Holland.

The scoreboard of 6-4 and 6-2 does not reflect the problems that had the number two national to be imposed al French and to obtain the right to face al Czech Jiri Vanek (81º) in the following phase, where also is installed Fernando González (21º).

A simple procedure was expected for Massú, therefore Thomann is a player of scarce filming in championships of greater category, usual to challengers and future, and that entered al main picture since the classifications.

But the past history went quickly to the trash, because the European was maintained hit al viñamarino in the account since the principle.

Massú had favorable moments to approach a break, but also almost yields its service in the ninth one game. But it saved it and that seemed to be an incentive for at last break in the tenth play and to be carried the initial sleeve for 6-4.

The disadvantage not amilanó to Thomann that surprised al Chilean after breaking him in the first game of the second set.

But Massú returned the breaking immediately and repeated the formula in the fourth one game to take the control of the encounter.

Of there for ahead all was easier for the national one that even obtained a third break in the eighth play, that permitted him to close the commitment with a 6-2.

Now Massú will have in front to Vanek, that Monday defeated Belgian Dick Norman (101º), for 6-7 (5), 6-2 and 6-3.

The match will be played probably this Wednesday.

In the same day should also debut the Chileans in doubles, in match with the double localities of Raemon Sluiter (133º) and Rogier Wassen (702º).

He's got to do something here.

He can't keep losing or he's going to be in such a hole ranking wise. This is the one tournament that I thought he didn't have to worry about losing ground on points, and he just got a hit points wise.

Next week he'll really lose ground in Kitzbuhel.

That's what makes these losses so hard. Sanchez is not a good player, Nico should have been able to win this match in his sleep.

He's got to do something. Hire an interium coach until Gaby comes on, something.

Because obviously he can't do it on his own.

Please don't worry about points and rankings - they will come back in time - trust me :) I know this from David's situation last year when he missed half the season through injury. When people are coming back from a long injury/illness they do have weird results like this - they win one and then they lose one, often losing to people you would not expect to beat them. It's just a case of finding their match fitness, their concentration and their focus again after such a long layoff, and generally that is something they have to do for themselves - a coach can't really help them because it's almost a "growing up" process or perhaps like a rehabilitation from an accident or illness - they have to do it on their own to "find themselves" again - and all fans can do is just support them through it and try not to get too sad when things go wrong.

After the initial shock has worn off, I've come to the same conclusion - I had just finished writing a post for the msn board for Nico.

I have to stop worrying about the points and rankings. He has to keep doing what he is doing - fighting hard, working hard, and trying to get his head together regarding the old injuries - like you said, he needs to find himself.

Eventuallly he will start playing and feeling like his old self, and we'll just support him as he fights his way back up the rankings ladder.

I've been through worse with Nico - in the beginning of 2003 coming back from an injury, he lost in the first round for two straight months. Talk about a nightmare.

Stuck with him then - will stick with him now - of course, cuz he's my angelito! lol!!!!!!!!!!

Me too Alonso - I know that he's suffering out there. And he's all by himself. No coach. No one from his family I don't think is there with him. Just that fitness trainer (who s*cks because obviously Nico's not in shape).

I don't want to think about points anymore - just want him to feel better.

But - last question about points before I move on and never mention them again - just want to prepare myself here for the worse. ;)

He's got 1165 points now. You said he'll lose 190 points here, looking at the entry list for Kitzbuhel he'll never win the title again so there's 250 points, and he's never won a match in Cincy so safe to say he'll lose all of his 400 Olympics points. That will bring him down to about 400+ in total points. Which means he'll be around 100 in rankings just before the US Open. Is that right?

He's just got to hope he has a good Fall - he didn't do much last fall except a couple of tournaments so he can pick up points then.

And then he has to work so hard during the offseason. No more partying, doing the TV thing during the offseason. He has to do like Fena did this past year which has paid off.

Speaking of Fena, I'm not worried about him either. After doing so poorly in 2004, he's just fine now.

I'm trying not to care about his ranking - I don't care for me, but for him, I know he's bumming so I worry about it.

And yes about playing without pain!

I'm so worried that he might have to have operation or something. He said something a couple tournaments ago about what a doctor told him about his ankle. And I even had someone who is spanish read it, and they couldn't tell whether what he meant was that he should try and do the best he can with the ankle the way it is without having surgery (which could mean that he might have to have surgery eventually), or whether he meant that the doctors said just do the best he could to play and not damage it further until it heals completely. I'll try to find the real quote, but even she couldn't tell which one he meant - she said it was vague the way he put it.

Alonso - I still feel like crying. Poor Nico...   I really dislike David Sanchez - I hope Fena CRUSHES him tomorrow.

Thanks for your words of wisdom Rosie. I'm so sorry Nico lost-really thought he's make it to the semi's. I realize I'm probably annoyingly optimistic but even though the points aren't there he did make it to a quarterfinal so it wasn't a total bust. For myself, if it wasn't for the points situtation, I'd think he's doing well for someone still coming back from an injury. The point situation certainly sucks and it puts a lot of pressure on him I'm sure I'm just trying to see some sunshine here. :)
