Jonas Bjorkman and doubles partner Joachim Johansson advanced to the Synsam Swedish Open doubles final by scoring a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) win over topseeded Swedish/Australian duo Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry Saturday.

Bjorkman has captured a total of 40 doubles titles in his career, and his most recent tournament win came at Roland Garros together with Max Mirnyi. The 33-year-old Swede has claimed the Bastad doubles titles four times in the past, with Jan Apell in 1994 and 1995, with Todd Woodbridge in 2002 and with Mahesh Bhupathi last year.

Joachim Johansson plays doubles in Bastad for the third time in his career. In 1998 he teamed up with Marat Safin, and in 2002 he played with Magnus Norman.

Bjorkman and Johansson play doubles for only the second time following the Davis Cup tie against Australia in February 2004. Johansson finds himself in a doubles final of an ATP event for the second time in his career. He and Safin lost to Roger Federer and Yves Allegro in the Halle championship match in June.

Their final opponents, Argentines Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto, reached the final by defeating Juan Monaco and Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The two Argentines play doubles together for the third time this year, and this is the second time they reach the final of an ATP event. In Buenos Aires they were handed a final loss by Frantisek Cerman and Leos Friedl, and in Barcelona they lost to the same duo in the second round.

Acasuso has one doubles title under his belt, Umag in 2004, while Prieto has lifted four doubles trophies in his career, most recently Buenos Aires in 2003.

Olao, how's Tomas? Does he look focused?

My impressions are the following:

* Berdych played perhaps (said the commentators) his greatest set on clay ever in the first set, with 12 winners, and he played without respect.

* Still, he was quite nervous in the very first game and held with problems, and he seemed very nervous in glimpses, but out of 10 shots in the first set, he hit 7 winners/great shots and 3 UEs. Nadal was in a bad rhytm.

* Then, he loses his first service game to love in the second set, simply unable to confirm and Nadal fires himself up and gets the perfect start.

* and he gets the break, the double break, *3-0 now and a loooooong way to go for Berdych now.

* In conclusion, Berdych simply hasn't been able to keep the very high level from most parts of the first set constantly enough...who wonders? He is not a top 10 player....yet :)

* Still, he played a first set of which he can be very proud, Nadal was off rythm yes, but Berdych was driving the play and controlling the match. Great stuff...

And one more thing...funny actually, Berdychs 1st serve has not been working...45% in the first set, down to 40 at some time...what could'nt he have done in the first and second set with a higher percentage...just shows how powerful his ground strokes with great length are...most of the time...

A couple of other things:

* Don't need to tell you how strong Nadal is defensively, and he gets everything back without making UEs.

* During the whole match, he has been playing towards Berdychs backhand, very far out on the bh side and that tactic is proving better and better, Berdych has missed almost every bh dtl. His cc bh is pretty good but Nadal gets it back almost every time.

* And then, Berdych's volleying has been terrible.

* So he is very dependent on hitting good ground stroke winners and he needs to get his first serve going in an expected third set in order to have a slight chance.

* Nadal hitting great passing shots now in this game (B serving at 1-5), doesn't look like a surprise victory right now....
