I was just wondering whether anyone had met Roger, and could tell what he was like.

Because I recently heard from a friend who's got contacts, that Roger rarely signs autographs and was whining once when people asked him to take pictures with him.

I've always thought and heard that Roger was really a nice guy, who'll take pictures with you and such. But this person is pretty reliable, so I was hoping you guys here could prove me wrong.

:)

Well, I had once met Roger in October 2003 in a department store in Zurich where he had TV live interview and gave autographs to fans afterwards. My girlfriend and I were really lucky to be the very first ones to get autographs in that event. He signed and gave us 4 postcards of him!! How nice!! She asked him if he could be in a photo and he said OK and I took a picture of him and her together. She told him that her brother also plays Tennis, then he responded "Oh nice, say hello from me!" He was really friendly and nice. I told him personally "Good luck in Houston!!" and he answered simply "Thanks!" He won the Masters Cup in that year in Houston 2003.

So, from my experience, he is very nice and friendly, as we all know of Roger.

Well I have met Roger in person once: April 2004 in Lausanne. There was the DC tie Switzerland vs. France. And (I do live in Lausanne) as I couldn't get tickets for the matches, I decided (don't blame me) to go to the hotel of the teams (about 30 mins by bus from my flat)... And I was waiting in front of the hotel door and when Roger came back from the double match (he did lost...) I asked him "Can you sign in my book of you please" and he said Yes for sure (he signed) And then we talked 5 mins about the match he said "I am disappointed for the fans who supported us but we couldn't do more" and so on... So yes he IS friendly!

And I saw him in Basel again on Monday to didn't talk to him... And I saw his final in Gstaad in 2003 but again, didn't talk to him...

The first time I saw Roger live was in Rotterdam February 2002, when he played the doubles final with Max Mirnyi, which he did win. It was really nice to see him and cheer for him. Sadly I couldn't contact him. A year later I did see him again during the first round Davis Cup in Holland vs. the Netherlands. He played a fantastic match vs. Sjeng Schalken and it was lovely to cheer for him, even while I was sitting between the Dutch people. Again I couldn't contact him.
Then I didn't see him in 2004 (coz the nightsession was sold out on the day I did go to the Rotterdamtournament and he played at night while I was there during the day  ) BUT this year in Rotterdam I did see him 4 days :) the first day was qualification saturday, when he was practising on center court (no fans allowed, but I had special tickets). Sadly I couldn't stay coz a friend of me was going to stay the night at my house coz I live closer to Rotterdam and she didn't have such special ticket. But the day after, qualies sunday, I watched his training on center court. He had lots of fun during that training and after the training I asked him to sign my Swiss flag and I could take a photo with him. On the first monday of the tournament I did see him during a meet&greet, again I could ask him for a photograph and a photo. The 4th time I did see him was during his first round match on wednesdaynight, of course I did cheer for him and luckily he did win that match!
And hopefully I will see him soon again, coz it is great to cheer for him! :)

Roger is very nice. I don't have the time now but I had a great meeting with him in Miami 03 and I will add it here. I am sure Roger does whine once in a while about signing stuff and doesn't want to talk too much because he is so fucking busy doing so many interviews. I wish if push came to shove he would say no to the media more to ease the mental pressure on himself.

Rogi never whines about signing for his fans -- he is very patient and accommodating! Another reason to love the guy.

And yes, I met him in Toronto02, Montreal03 and Toronto04... missed him in Madrid02 tho cos he hadn't yet arrived as he was beating Moya in the SF of Vienna [where he went on to win the tourney, both in sgles and dbles!].

He's a real sweetie! ;)
