She did have his MSN address though (another fan also had the real one) and they both knew about his relationship with Afinogenova as they'd been leaving messages for each other on their MSN's. As for him being  I think more the  as there were some girls on Gael's blog that were moaning about him being a womaniser. And if you are about to tell me off for this Puschkin, don't! ;) I will join in with a conversation if I want to. If Richard doesn't like it then he needs to be more discreet and tell the other players like Fab and Gael not to discuss him. Personally, I reckon he loves being thought of as a ladies man. Also, this is someone who not only called his opponent a "pussy" and talked about how his girlfriend would cheat on him but even did it on camera! He is not the prudish angel that some people think him to be. As long as screwin' around doesn't affect his tennis and he is careful, then good on him as long as he is happy.

WHo is Afinogenova ? I have never heard of Richard having a girlfriend at all which is why I wasnt totally shocked when I heard rumours about him being gay (although I dont think these are true either) . he must be very very discreet

Ekaterina, Sister of Maxim Afinogenov, russian hockey player who is playing for Buffalo right now.

She is tennis player, but low ranked now (around 600s)

Thanks for the videos amandita.

SO he did play the ad/left side and look what happens. That'a a good lookin doubles team :hearts:. He looked much more comfortable and relaxed out there than he did in DC. Lots of noises on that court.

Wonder who he was pointing and smiling to in the stands after the match?

Hey Stan can you teach Richie how to unzip his Lacoste shirt just a bit... That's been one of my pet peeve for AGES!! Almost as annoying as his cap. He looks like he's choking himself - OOPs I'm taking over the fashion police job.

Anyway hope they keep going in the dubs, they would look really nice in the winners circle.

Good to see to see Richie playing on "his side" of the court. I really hope they can win the doubles (and that there is some TV coverage of doubles for once!).

we need a cheering squad and ditch the hat banners. He would be unbeatable.

I think its really crappy actually asking for autographs when someone has just come off court after losing a match.

Well isn't he the flirt - wonder which one he ended up with later ;)

I could never have enough nerve to ask a player for an autograph after they just got wiped off the court - it was nice of him. You don't even want to know what I would have told those fans...

Well since, at the moment, my services as hair police are not needed, it would be my pleasure to assume the job of fashion police but I do believe someone else on the chat tread was hired for that. No matter, I suppose he could use an army for that. However he did look a bit dapper in those Rotterdam photos with that scarf. I do like the colored shorts and i'm not opposed to a sweaty ass :D - he's just working hard.

Awkward is an understatement!! That's like the most awkward moment of your life with a few drops of embarrassment and cringe added and mixed up in a big old bowlful of "Oh my god and there are people watching,AND with cameras!!"
What cracked me up though, is the fact that he had worked up a sweat with those paltry few moves. He didn't get his leg very high did he?

Next thing you know he'll be joining Simon at RG singing "I'm too sexy" at the Kareoke thing.

ANd no I'm not seeing the womanizer playuer in this video "fur shuure" but as I've said before it's the shy, innocent looking ones you have to watch out for.

His face was an absolute PICTURE!!! It really was. Parts 1 and 3 are my fave. Part 2 is okay as is part 4 but nothing of note happens in them. Part 1 is my favourite because it shows the closeness of the boys and Gael and Gilles in particular, and part 3 because its a laugh a minute

I'm just in love wtih that documentary series. The first one was amazing and the 2nd even better. And what I like about it is each player is given a chance to shine. Jo was the star of the first series, Gael the star of the second and hopefully Gilles and Richard will get their turn in the next one :D

Is Richard saying I have the same body as when I was 18,19? Richard does have love handles :o and I think he looks in pretty poor shape compared to the other three. :o

Right basically they're talking about body fat and teasing each other about their weight and stuff. They're calling each other 'couchon' which is an affectionate friendly term for pig. Don't worry its meant affectionately

:bigclap: Tess - you're the best! THanks for putting them all on You Tube. I couldn't get them to work on my laptop and I'd get killed if I downlaoded all that stuff on my office computer.

Anyway they were great. RIchie and the cheerleaders - too funny - great edit job with the arrows (but what else is he gonna look at with that right in front of his face). The guys should stick to their day job - golfers they are not. And I see "butts up" is an international reward for the winning team (I thought that was just something us silly Americans did). Glad to see Peyre is working his ass off and trying to fix that forehand. I'm still going to believe his cough is from alleriges and not cigs ().

Richie does have the most wobbly bits, not great for a professional athelete, Gael on the Golf course really made me laugh. Richard does come across as the quietest out of all of them, with Gilles a close second imo. Jo and Gael come across as an absolute riot.

And that's the problem Richie - where's the beef? He's got a long way to go to get to Gael but I think he looks better than he did in those famous 2007 locker room towel vidoes (where everyone was probably looking at his best ASSet ;)). And obviously he thinks he looks better because I've seen more pics of him shirtless in the last two months than in the last 5 years.

Thanks Eimear for the translation!Hmm, this is somebody I hope to see win Wimbledon one day (as we all do) but that body does not inspire me with confidence. He has been a professional athelete for a number of years now and I know we all joke about it from an asthetic point of view but from a sporting view point, I really think he should look in much better shape. Richie has the same body as a lot of men his age who don't do much exercise.

I think Richie is losing a bit of weight but to be honest he needs to. What is he eating?

my fave bits were neither of them being able to open the fridge. lol. Typical men. Richie's training, at least we know he is doing some. He doesn't look very keen on the running part though. I would be interested to have what Peyre is saying translated as I don't get all of it.

Oh and Gael on the golf course is hysterical. The guy causes chaos whereever he goes. So funny.

I think it is obvious that Gilles and Richie are a lot less comfortable with the cameras than the other two. Gilles in particular. Bet there is no way he would be doing it if it wasn't for the other 3.

I'd like to know what Peyre is saying too, Richie doesn't look like he is really listening at some points.
Bashak on Jo's forum translated the "belly" bit, Richie is saying he only has 11% body fat and it's only on his belly whereas Jo has some in other places too at around 18/19%. I still think Jo looks in better shape. Jo points out that he has lost weight whilst on vacation.

body fat % is taken 1 of 2 ways, skinfold testing or an infra red test i think, usually skinfold
im pretty sure health for men is 10-15% and females 15-20%
i think he should be less than "healthy" though because he is an athlete, and i was only just over 5%

I had mine done at the gym and I'm not telling what it was. Apparantly an acceptable level for a fit woman according to our machine is up to 24% and you can still have acceptable body fat at up to 30%. Obese is 35% plus I think from memory I was talked through it.

No idea what is acceptable for a mans though as obviously I'm not one. I would imagine it is lower though.

thanks for the video, unfortunately the only thing I could understand is "positif a la cocaine". I thought I read some where (maybe MTF) that he was deciding what to do about the 4 mousquetaires video, so I'm glad he participated in this episode and even addressed the cocaine issue (if he had a choice and I imagine that he did). But it bummed me out to see the other three in the TOp 10 and Richie's only claim to fame - was "positif a la cocaine"

This makes me REALLY REALLY miss him on the court and SOOOOO sad because he was looking happy (and quite gorgeous)and actually had the beginnings of a swagger as he walked off the court and signed autographs after the Tsonga match.

Could anybody give a brief summary of what he and Peyre said. I know Peyre said he was playing very poorly when he was watching the Rochus match - DUHHH.

SO since I can't comment on what he said I'll just say - yea Tess I love that shirt, too - What, a REAL shirt and no Lacoste polo!!! Guess he had to look more sophisticated for the TV. But he looks great, relaxed, not fidgeting with everything, nice hair (there I go again, once in the hair police always in the hair police).

But he should definitely stop with the interviews :tape: It's been the third or fourth time that I hear him saying the same thing word by word, sometimes he's not even answering the question, he just says his speech, now it sounds really like he learnt it all by heart and the sincerity isn't that striking nor natural now. I am quite surprised that he does so much public talk. For a player who was rather uncomfortable with the media in the past, this is a huge change. And for me this shows, that he is really committed to his defense which adds to its sincerety.

Yes, Margareta, I think Lilibel is right and it might take to be french to hear these very subtle little things in his speech, because some sentences he says in this video have the exact same intonations, pauses and words as the ones he says in the other vids or radio interviews. Plus some of the answers he's giving don't directly answer the question that was posed, like he's following his trail of thoughts, is a bit nervous about forgetting a part of his speech and isn't really listening to what the journalist says.

I think his lawyers wrote a speech and made him learn it all by heart so he can say it again word for word when he's asked to. It's exactly like a child recitating poetry or a student recitating an oral presentation and trying to make it look extremely natural, like he has just thought of it and not like he learnt it for hours the day before (which was exactly my case two days ago, so believe me I know the difference )

There is a subtle difference which might make you see why we're saying this towards the end, when the journalist asks him what he thought of Gael's run at Roland (the first time anyone asked him that) and Richard answers he really thought he could win the tournament if he had beaten Federer : this answer is a lot more natural, he's nearly surprised at the question and his face lights up a little, his voice is different too, it's obvious to me that this sole question and answer wasn't part of his learnt speech and therefore he didn't have to concentrate that much to remember everything, if that makes sense. He was answering freely. Next question he falls back into it again.

About him doing a lot of media stuff, I really don't believe he's the one asking :/ he has a lot of people thinking "in his place" beginning with his lawyers, if I might say. But it's normal, they weren't going to let him alone in the crazy world of journalists who were going to study his every words and try to double guess them, so he has to be extremely careful. They probably make him do what they think is best for him, but Richie isn't a talker nor a politician and therefore he has difficulties disguising his body language or his voice :/

If there is any other Frenchies around, give us your thoughts :)

Schu

Thanks for Frenchies view. From the view of someone who understands about every 10th word he looks and sounds more relaxed being interviewed than he did last year during all the DC mess but I guess that's not hard to do. I do imagine he has a script he's been told by his attorneys to say which is not unusual and probably better but he might try to change it up a bit.

Cloudygirl
06-10-2009, 08:12 PM
Well for some people he is a massive pot of money isn't he essentially. I imagine there are a lot of contracts on the line with big companies which is why he has to do the interviews, and why they are sending him on charity events and to meet the pope. It's all about image, not about him.

I'm not sure that he should have spoken at all pre the hearing but I can see why he has from a PR perspective. He isn't a natural raconteur and you only have to look at how awkward he looks in a suit to see that he would rather be playing sport than doing interviews.

I am quite surprised that he does so much public talk. For a player who was rather uncomfortable with the media in the past, this is a huge change. And for me this shows, that he is really committed to his defense which adds to its sincerety.

he practised lots of times before the itw, that's obviously.
If its a press conference, the journalists will kill him and I'm sure that he woundnt know how to deal with them

Puschkin
06-10-2009, 08:34 PM
PS don't take it for yourself!! i t's just my opinion and the way of many people ( and media) see it at this moment...
I appreciate your opinion, but I don't care what the media think. :p they should get first their figures right.

Of course he has to weigh every word and one can see that, but given other pressers from him when much less was at stake (DC - as Schu pointed out rightly or Roland Garros last year) I feel he is doing quite well. You don't have to agree with me, though.;)

Somehow, I feel the guy can never do it right. When he kept his silence, many people complained about it, now, that he speaks, he speaks too much. ;)

I just hope he doesn't say something stupid before the hearing, or at the hearing. I don't want him to hide away but keeping a low profile is a good idea imo. I suppose he is kind of doing that as going to the vatican is hopefully keeping him away from the french press for a few days.

Can anyone translate Richies bit??
the interview part is old and has been discussed at length here. What he answers when asked about whether he was impressed with the pope, I don't understand it myself, sorry. :o

Keijan
06-26-2009, 11:56 AM
About the pope moment, Richie is asked if he's impressed. He answers "not really, I would probably top him easily on a tennis court" so the journalist goes "and with a ball ?" (he means in football since that's why Richard is in Rome) and he replies "yeah, any kind of sport really." I enjoyed this moment muchly since it was obviously not about sports that Richard was asked, and the way he "didn't" answer the question was very clever. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't care much about the pope, he's not religious at all and he's probably bored to tears to be there :p

I was impressed with his football skills too. That moment where he nearly scored a goal, wow

Truc
06-26-2009, 11:58 AM
The part about him in Rome is one of the few refreshing moments of the episode imo.

He's asked if he's impressed with the pope and answers the question as if he was asked about an opponent. "Sur le terrain, je devrais le battre, ça devrait aller. Ça va, je pense que je suis au-dessus de lui." - "I shouldn't have much trouble, I think I'll be OK."

Then the football match, the "manager" of the club presents Richard as their Van Basten. (As you can see, he seriously brings down the average age of the "Variétés Club".)
The manager jokes about the fact that they're wearing a white jersey since they saw the Pope and are now cleansed from all their sins. Richard smiles and adds "there aren't many anyway".
And then there is a description of the match, the journalist is poking a bit fun at "Van Basten", but stresses there was one great attacking move, though.
He plays only one half since his condition isn't the best - it should be better than the condition of the grandpas of the Variété Club?!

Nothing special in a summary, but he comes over pretty well imo. The guys of the show said last time he was the most cooperative lately, and he does seem quite cool with the team following him. Compared with how he usually is with media. Even just the way he says "see you later!" ("à toute!") to the camera before the match, it's quite cute and nice.

Edit: I hadn't seen Marion's post, sorry, MTF was being :silly: again!

"Richard smiles and adds "there aren't many anyway".
That one I got, though.:)

Even if he might have felt a bit odd with the old boys, getting him out of France for a few days in that week was not the worst idea. I also find him rather relaxed, anyway much more so at many occasions last year, when much less what at stake and he was tension personified.

Oh no - please do not even think about Richard playing football here in the states . He is so injury prone - they would be hauling him away on a stretcher every game
Besides - most of those guys are double his weight - he would be snapped in half just like a twig

My son played football for 10 years - and many of his teammates play in college and one is in the NFL - trust me
Richard is not anywhere near big enough for that sport
not even with his neck and muscular legs - he does not come close

at least he is fast - that might save him
That is what worked for my son - that and a tenacious pitbull like attitude
but , I don't know - I just am not seeing Richard in that sport - he does not seem quite " mean " enough

There are several reasons why athletes don't comment either way on drug related issues. It doesn't mean they aren't supportive.

For instance some may feel they would come under suspision(sp.) themselves if it did turn out the person in question was actually a drug taker.

But ATP players seem to comment on these drug things way more than WTA.
