Cindy19
08-04-2005, 01:43 AM
Okay, now say something about our Lu. Well, you know my English is poor, so I try my best to translate this article. It was published in a Chinese Magazine on 2004 August. < Tennis> and the name is Baseline---Yen-Hsun-lu.

Here we go!=)

Who is the first Chinese man single player entry the Grand Slams? Who is the first Chinese man single player won the game in Grand Slams? And who will be the first one to win the Grand Slams champion?

Lu answered the first two questions with a perfect match in Wimbledon this year.(2004) and about the third question, if the answer will be clear in coming 15 years, the ranking updated no.92 after Wimbledon, Lu will be the closest.

Like the world No.1 Roger Federer, Lu hasnít his private coach. Why? It doesnít seem that he has the same talent like Switzerland genius, just because he hasnít enough money. Even so, by right of he crashed into ATP challengerís final 6 times, and defeated Coria and Arthurs, and entered Wimbledonís second round. This 20 years old boy who from Taiwan became the focus of all Chinese peoples. Maybe you surprised about why he has this huge energy under his cap? You can find the answer form his life experience.

Lu started tennis when he was 8 years old. He trained tennis with his brother Wei-Luan-Lu. For a professional tennis player, this age is a little older. But Lu trained hardly, so his basic skill is the best in his age. But geniusís technology always go with geniusí s character. As time goes by, Luís age and technology is getting better. Lu became temperish. When he was in high school, He lived under the Zuo- Yu-Wang who is 1 year yonger than him. No question, he is the No. 2 in Tai Wan.

Until Luís father died in 2000, Luís tennis life almost killed. But fortunately, he throw his ill temper, and became a good man. That was the best year in his career. So People gave him a nickname Ď Tai Wan Guní. Lu said: his icon is Peter Sampras, and learning Peterís calmness is the most important things for him.

In 2003, Luís shoulder was getting bad. He canít do anything. And he hasnít enough money, he canít take more ATP tournaments. What he can do is just stay in his training court and waste his time.

He got a wild card for Athens Olympic Game when he defeated Coria in French Open. And played Wimbledon second round made him get enough money. So that he can play the hard court tournaments in north American. But you know, he is still get the economy class not business class. Lu said: his aim is become the No. 50 by the end of this year, and become the Asia Tennis oriflamme like Srichaphan.

For reduce Luís pressure of economy. After the Wimbledon. Wilson which always sponsors him decided to make a new plane. Simply: When you buy a bucket of Wilsonís tennis ball, it seems that you contribute 5 dollars to Lu.

Okay, I tried my best. But I know there are must be a lot mistakes in my English. I really hope you can understand it. And now explain something.

Luís father died because of cancer. And Lu was really upset. It broke his heart. Now his mother is stay with him. I met them last year, his mother is really friendly to everyone. I talked with Lu in English, and then his mother said: Hey, girl, you can use Chinese, because we are Chinese, Then she smiled to me. Lu was a little shy. He just smiled. He singed in my book when he lost his match. After that, he smiled and said goodbye to me. He waved to me.

This was the first time, and I think it is the last time. I don't want TMC come here. TMC is filled with money, it is not pure.

Best wishes to our Lu.=)

If you still get some problems with my English, i will explain it.=)

Cindy19

Hello Benny, welcome here=) nice to meet you =)

I hope Lu can play some tournaments, not challengers...

chewy
09-17-2005, 02:39 AM
@benny(welcome :wavey: ), i think Lu will play in one of the asia's tornament, but just don't know which one yet, he's still in d alternate list for Vietnam n Thailand Open.

@cindy, wats wrong with challengers? they r still tornaments just in a smaller scale ;) , n i think for Lu, its hard for him to get into atp's International Series tornaments maindraw with his current world ranking. if he can win a higher level challenger tornament(75k+) then his ranking will go back up ard 100!

Cindy19
09-17-2005, 05:24 AM
chewy: he played a lots tornaments last year, so i don't understand why he joined so much challengers this year. he is not a rich player, and you know challengers' prize are low...he needs money so that he can have a good coach...a good class...a good hotel...that;s unfair!!! He plays tennis like andy roddick. but andy can gets more, lu can;t... =(

chewy
09-17-2005, 08:11 AM
@cindy, i know it might seem unfair, but i think Lu play many atp torn last yr because his ranking was inside 100, he would qualify for the maindraw of those higher level tornaments.

but his ranking hav drop this year and currently stands at ard 129, thats y he has to play challengers to try n get his ranking back inside top 100. n i think he's capable of winning more challengers titles(he already won some this yr), it'll also improve his confidence!

for Lu to get into atp tornaments, he could either play d qualifying rds or get a wild card(unlikely, unless taiwan was hosting the tornament) or wait on d alternates list which is wat he's doing now for vietnam n thai open. but unless the players rank above him drop out of d tournament(withdraw/choose not to play) Lu can only wait.

any1 know how many challengers title lu has won in singles?

i think there can be a healthy rivalry/competition between pik(danai), jimmy and lu. they're d younger group of asian tennis players compare to lee n srichaphan. all 3 is closed to d 100 mark in rankings while jimmy n lu have been inside top 100, danai hav won more challengers titles in singles. i think they can use this to motivate each other.

atp challenger titles(singles)

Danai - won 4
Jimmy - won 3
Lu - won 3(not 100% sure, plz correct me if im wrong)

european does seem to have the bigger players, but actually a good athelic/tennis player shld be slim built prob like federer body type.
Asian men r usually shorter but when ur short u r more agile and quick around the court pluz less prone compare to injuries to tall or large players! ;)

If some referee did not mistake and made Danai unable to join this tournament in single draw in time (Korean referee did not inform Australian referee that he will compete this tournament on Wednesday, he had the right to play on Wednesday because he took the title in Korea last week but Australian tournament thought he withdraw already so they cut Danai off from the tournament.

Nice work by Lu to win the 7th challenger title of his career last week, crushing the Slim Spadey in the final.
Unfortunately Martin Pedersen beat him 7-5 6-3 in the 1st round in the Guangzhou Challenger, but playing tournaments back to back events (with a long flight in-between), after going deep the first week, is always tough.
