Nelson Monfort = funny, sometimes annoying french interviewer, acts a bit gay (but is married), and is omnipresent at all french tennis tournaments (men and women).

Russia wins incredible final to take Fed Cup by BNP Paribas
In one of the most dramatic weekends possible, Russia has retained the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas after a titanic struggle against a valiant France.

In the gathering gloom and with the clock showing 19:55 local time, a forehand return from Amelie Mauresmo sailed long, and the scratch pairing of Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina had defeated Amelie Mauresmo and Mary Pierce 64 16 63.

It was an unbelievably tense one hour 47 minute final rubber, with all four players giving everything for their countries. Tennis - sport even - doesn't come any more passionate and dramatic than this.

They were talking about Dinara on my radio this morning!!!! they made a summary of her life and career (i was half asleep, i thought i was dreaming, cuz that's really the first time they spend time talking about her :p)
The woman on the radio said: you probably don't know her well, so let me tell you more about my future sister in law ( :spit: you wish! :p)
Then she told about her childhood, her family background, and her first title in 2002 saying she was the youngest player ever to win a title. She said last year she didn't even have any expectations to be in the Fed Cup team, and this year she wins the trophy, and really was the player who made the difference in the doubles match
The woman also said Marat helps her a lot in her career: he helps her to get more mature and to become more independent as regards to the people around her, especially her mom. She added he had found a coach for her, a young Swedish guy (and oh my god you should have heard the way the woman pronounced those last words! :aplot:  )

To conclude she spoke about some future tournaments Dina will enter, but i wasn't listening carefully cuz i was still laughing @ the Swedish guy thing  :o

"- Maratik to me very much, very much, very much helps. At us with it "dedovshchiny" never was. I - kusachaja, it - composure (it on court it blows up, raketki throws), a maximum, on what is capable: to sneer, play a trick, pin up. But I forgive all to it. It always watches my performances and if cannot be a number with me, will necessarily call or esemesku will send. Here and now has only just received: " Dinka, you - molodchina, I am proud of you and I love … " - and Safin's Dinar joyfully smiles "

He is always following my progress (or matches) and if he cannot be with me he always calls or sends an sms. sorry it's not about Dinara really but about the Fed Cup team, but i can't resist posting it here  (it's from tennis-x.com)

Ignoring the fact that Elena Dementieva hates Svetlana Kuznetsova and everyone hates Maria Sharapova, Russia's tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev says everything is dandy with the Russian Fed Cup team: "I don't think there is a problem between any of our players," Tarpishchev told Reuters. "Anything that was said about it, has been greatly exaggerated by the press."...
(surely  :p)

Likely after a talking-to from Russian Fed Cup godhead Shamil Tarpishchev, Anastasia Myskina has restated her stance on bailing on Fed Cup: "There was a misunderstanding with the translation because I didn't say that I'm not going to play at all. I won twice and I think the young players are playing pretty good right now, like Dinara [Safina], she's ready to play singles. I just want to take a step back a little bit and give a place, but if I'm going to be invited that would be great."
Translation: 'I don't want to play unless you force me Shamil, and I sure as hell don't want to play on the same team as Maria.' ;) :rocker:

I loooooove Justine, but yeah, appearantly lots of people don't (@ those people: enjoy the hating) :p

Anyway, Rodriguez stated Justine will not play Fed Cup in 2006 (for the second year in a row) because she doesn't want to play a full schedule and it's three weeks a year,.. blah blah (we already knew that).

However, then he starts to attack Kim, who appearantly got twice the amount of money Justine got payed for playing in 2002 (the year Belgium won it). And he said he doesn't understand why people bitch about Justine not wanting to play something she already has won, while Kim Clijsters didn't even want to defend her country at the Olympics. (:ras: OLD COWS...)

After that he had a go at Carl Maes, who earlier stated that 'he tried to get in touch with Justine all the time and they didn't want to talk to him'. Rodriguez says Maes called maybe twice in six months and at those times didn't even ask about Justine's health. (somebody hang Carl Maes) ;)

(Ok.. I admit.. the belgian tennis federation is as :cuckoo: as the Russian Bitch Squad. It's like a goddamn soap opera :o )

Probably, but it is just so unfortunate.. First the whole thing with Malisse not making the DC team vs. USA because he's only available for the 'big' matchups and refused to play when Belgium is facing South Africa of Slovenia or whatever. Big fight. Rochus getting annoyed and never wanting to play with him.. 'ever again'! ( ooooh, I bet he looked so dangerous saying that) :p
Two weeks later suddenly they are the best of friends and Olivier is again considering playing with Xavier. I mean, that's all very touching *wipes away emotional tear* but if they would stop communicating through the press (who blows up their words) and get together man to man to talk things out we could've won the tie.

Same thing with Kim and Justine. People don't realise how exceptional it is to have TWO top players at the same time. It will probably never happen again. The flemish press shamelessly pull for Kim. Kim is always referred to as "our Kim" while Justine is usually called "Henin". They could at least do her the favour of calling her by the name she chose after she got married, "Henin-Hardenne".

Phew...Until she won the tiebreak, Stosur seemed to win... at least, from the SB's point of view. Ofcourse, ES is only showing one match a day so far.

Dinara now will play against Sharapova... I think that Dina has a good chance to beat her this time because Masha was playing so bad in her last matches and also is injured... Remember that Sharapova was nearly defeated by Groenefeld yesterday, but Anna-Lena then retired for an ankle injury

Good luck Dina :yeah: :bounce:

True. I think she's 'lucky' to play against Maria instead of Anna-Lena...
Hope she'll spank Maria's butt.

What's the problem?

You should wait for 45 seconds first, before a download button appeares.
Btw. Possible problem: a banner that slides down might block the view of the count-down timer and hence the button, which later appeares on it's place. Close it.
I had the above problems before.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Top seed Maria Sharapova was ousted from the Kremlin Cup by unfancied Dinara Safina 1-6 6-4 7-5 in a quarter-final battle of Russian teenagers on Friday.

Safina, urged on by her brother Australian Open champion Marat Safin, lost the opening set before staging a spirited comeback to beat the world number one. "This is undoubtedly the biggest win of my career so far," said the 19-year-old. "Until now I've never beated the world's top player."

Safina raced into a 5-1 lead in the decider before it was time for Sharapova to show her fighting instincts.

The world number one won the next four games but Safina eventually secured victory on her third match point.

"I think today I played much better, especially in the first set, than in my first match on Wednesday," said Sharapova.

"In the second set I broke her in the seventh game to lead 4-3 but she broke right back and she looked a lot more confident after that.

"In the end it was one or two points which decided the outcome but what can I say, life goes on," she added.

"I'm going home to Florida to have some rest and get ready for the WTA Championships (in Los Angeles)."

Safina said it was the support of the home crowd which had pulled her through. "Anywhere I looked I saw a familiar face," she said. "On one side it was my brother, then I turn around and see my coach or (Mikhail) Youzhny's brother. Everyone was cheering me on and I felt I just can't lose in such circumstances."
