What a scoreline! :worship: congrats!
(I saw that Nastya lost on the same score )
exactly... But we all know she's the more steady of both ! And she's the proof that when you have less natural talent, you are often a better worker... I feel she's way more dedicated to improve herself... And her new coach is great... But like she said, she'll always feel like it's Marat first and her behind ;)
That's not new ;) a few years ago in L'Equipe magazine they made Marat interview her and she was already saying that he was the most talented (she's the #1 fangirl :yeah:) and that she had to work so much more than he does to try to reach his level. Well, sometimes work pays :p

she lost 6-2, 6-3... in the first set serena played too strong and Dinara was too tensed but in the second it was really better but her serve let her down and serena was really playing too good... No regrets Dina, you've done your best and a 4th round is already a good shot !

Dina was quit cool yesterday, I was sitting behind mama Rausa and coach Glenn :D
Mama did a sort or grunting kinda "dinaaarrrrrrrraaaa" every time she netted a ball

Later on I met mama rausa in the adidas stand where she bought pink adidas shoes for her self with a poster from Marat looking down on mama

When sis and I were on on way back home we decided to eat near the park, OI, it was the players hotel :D! Not long after we ordered Ivan Ljubicic sat at the table next to us and ordered the biggest ice cream on the menu  , 2 tables after him a bunch of umpires [Bernard, Norm Christ ]all ordered very big ice creams too
Poor Tommy Robredo didn't eat the ice but got himself a pack of ice to cool something, poor dude lost to a dutchie with the ranking 488 Peter Wessels.
Well done Petah

ATP likes ice cream :p

Today I watched her match on tv.
First set Jankovich was just to good and Dina made to many mistakes. she is a bit to slow
Second Dina did some good fighting and won the set 6-3.
Third set was amazing, Jelena broke early but when Jelena was about to serve for match at 4-5 Dina broke back to 5-5 and was able to take it to tie break.
Dina was down 2-6 so multiple mp's for Jelena but Dina didn't give up she got back to 6-6. Unfortunaltly then Jelena made a mini break and on the 6th mp she finished the match :awww:
A lot of yelling in russian
It was an amazing fight tho, she never gave up and celebrated every point she made.
Thrilling match, to bad she couldn't get those last 2 points :(

LOL Penguin, I didn't see the match, only on SB that Bondarenko had several SPs but Dina still got the tie-break and finished the match before rain and now saw the interview, she was glad she got the win in 2. :) And they showed one funny point when Bondarenko was leading 7-6 in the TB and Dina made a dropshot and Bondarenko ran and fell into the net, she didn't quite recover from the fall obviously and Dinarat finally got the TB and the match. :)

Safina Folds Under Morigami Pressure

Thursday, 28 June, 2007

Russian 13th seed Dinara Safina has become the biggest casualty so far in the women's draw, going down in straight sets to Akiko Morigami of Japan.

The powerful Muscovite, who reached two Grand Slam quarter-finals last year, never found her rhythm and while she battled all the way, it was Morigami who ended up a worthy 6-4, 7-5 winner after almost two hours of play.

Neither player was particularly confident on service, and the match saw some 10 breaks of serve – an incredibly high percentage bearing in mind that there were only 22 games in total.

The difference between the two players came down to the second serve, with Morigami, who at 5ft 5ins was giving away a six-inch height advantage, winning almost twice as many points on her second delivery as Safina.

The first set was almost a question of who would hold service as opposed to who would break first, and the Japanese world No.71 held her nerve better than Safina to take the opener 6-4. She also had the better of the exchange of breaks at the start of the second, and seemed to be coasting to victory at 4-3 before Safina threw all her efforts into a final charge and broke back.

The Russian’s hopes were short-lived, however, as Morigami again seized on the Safina second service and painted the corners with her returns to break again before serving out to win the match.

The Japanese No.3 thus equals her best ever performance in a Grand Slam (which was here at Wimbledon in 2003) by making the third round, where she will face Venus Williams.

For Safina however, Wimbledon continues to be a source of frustration. In five tournaments, she has registered five wins and as many losses.

From the French page of msn Sports:

http://sport.fr.msn.com/HTML/Tennis/breves2007/20070906_235148Dev.html

Quick summary:
They say that Dechy, who won last year the women's doubles title with Vera Zvonareva, reached the final again this year with another partner, Dinara Safina, one of the 2006 unlucky runner-ups.
"We're enjoying it, we're having fun, so we will try to win it", Dechy said.

The article says this result is quite ironic, it must be destiny, because 2 days before the start of the US Open Dechy still had no partner. "With Dinara (Safina), she explained, we decided it at the very last moment, on the Saturday morning, because I really wanted to defend my title with Vera. But she was coming back from a 4 months break due to an injury and she didn't know much how her wrist would be. She eventually played but lost in the second round. As for Dinara, she was supposed to play with Tatiana (Golovin), who told her 2 days before the start that it couldn't happen. But for a first time, it is working pretty well.":yeah:

The secret of the duo:
"Dinara serves very well, she's also very good from the baseline, we make a good pair, Dechy said. but the real key to the success in doubles is the good harmony between the 2 players. And here we're really having some great time on court". :)

About their next opponents:
"It's a really weird team, they play along the lines, they're good at interceptions, and yet sometimes you can have the feeling they can't play. No, really, they're weird..."

Dechy, Safina Win U.S. Open Doubles

NEW YORK (AP) — Nathalie Dechy of France and Dinara Safina of Russia won the U.S. Open women's doubles title in their first tournament together, beating Chan Yung-Jan and Chuang Chia-Jung of Taiwan 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday's final.
Dechy also won last year's doubles championship at Flushing Meadows, but with Vera Zvonareva as her partner — and Safina was the runner-up, pairing with Katarina Srebotnik.
Safina is the younger sister of 2000 U.S. Open men's singles champion Marat Safin. This is her first major title in singles or doubles.
"It's special because my brother's first Grand Slam was also at the U.S. Open, so it's kind of a family tradition," Safina said.:D
For Chan and Chuang, this is a second runner-up finish at a major. They lost to Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the Australian Open doubles final in January.

I don't for you guys but I smiled like an idiot when i read what she said about the family tradition  :D

Safina gets over growing pains

By Alaric Gomes, Senior Reporter
Published: February 27, 2008, 00:06

Dubai: Dinara Safina is in no hurry to rush her career, insisting that one or her prime aims is to stay injury-free.
"With age I have certainly evolved as a player and as a person, and the best gift for me at the finish line of each season is to keep perfectly healthy," Safina said after her easy first-round win against Tunisian Selima Sfar.
"I take things one day at a time and much of the focus is to ensure I am still enjoying what I am doing on and off the court," said the 21-year-old Russian who now resides in Monte Carlo.
"The past few years have been enlightening for me as a person and as a player. I have learned so much about the game and about life. I get up each day and give it 100 per cent and then wait to see where it all ends."
During her initial years, Safina had a tough time living in the shadow of her famous brother Marat Safin.
"I am his sister and I have got used to it now. It really doesn't bother me anymore as we are two different individuals," she said.
Over the years, Safina has carved out a name for herself, clinching 12 career titles, including five singles crowns on the WTA Tour. This achievement, to an extent, has helped her establish an identity of her own.
"I used to get a bit worked up about it. But at the same time I wanted to show the world that I am a different person, a separate individual," Safina stated.
"I still need to go out there and give 100 per cent."
