Maria did choke at the end, she stopped 'going for it' and Dinara didn't make any unforced errors anymore.

It's amazing the constant pounding away Maria does. She has no subtlety in her game but she's great at hitting the lines hard and then it was clear Dinara needs to work on her speed (she's too slow).
Of course Kuzzie is yet another type of player. We'll see!

Mostly because I hate running and stuff. Only sports I like are swimming, dancing, and maybe badminton and volleyball, but I don't really practice those anymore. I should join a club or so. I like fitness too but these days it's really expensive and I think it's important to have someone who sticks through it with you, because when I'm alone I tend to stop really quick.

The element of surprise is always a good battle tactic. The commentators here likened this match to a boxing contest. I actually managed to see most of this match, a real achievement in the holidays.

While Safin was brooding over his loss in Moscow, Safina -the little sister- was keeping the Slavic flame of the family alive in RG. Same escapades on the spectacular aspect of the game, identical interest for daring attacks, Dinara managed Marat's legacy with dignity. The Russian never lost the tricks, she used her energy to reverse unlikely situations against Sharapova yesterday. In the first set, she saved 2 set points with authority, before making her fellow Russian sick (7-5), and we had not seen anything yet.

Rushed off her feet by her opponent's bursts, down 6-2 5-1, the youngest of the Safins, evanescent for a long time, found the way to the battleground again with bravery: 6 games swallowed (!). 6 games that she took with her fierce determination, her sens of offensive, her passing shots, her rallies with varied results; 6 games that finally made the varnish of Sharapova crumble, Sharapova who looked puzzled.
This ride from the less statuesque of the 2 players was incredible and inexorable at the same time. "There is no word to describe it, the winner simply said, more placid with her words than with her will. This comeback was unexpected. But at 5-1 I didn't want to leave the court. "I play for myself"

Since a few months, this new positivism has transformed Safina it seems. Even though she still looks a bit potbellied, she has now more weapons to resist the tutelary shadow of her brother, whose sarcasm sometimes sounds anti-family. "Dinara must work on her physical condition if she wants to progress", mocked Safin kindly in last Wimbledon. "I run now, retorted his smiling sister yesterday, having now taken a weight off her. (again a word with 2 meanings, it think here they meant she has lost weight, and she also get free from Marat's shadow and the pressure on her shoulders) At the beginning it was difficult for me. I've been thinking about it since then, and I play for myself now".

Guided since January by a new coach, Dutch Glen Schaap, Safina combines a new type of game to this emancipation. Until recently, like a lot of her fellow (Russian?)female players, she used to use coaches without moderation. The drastic experiment proposed by Petrova's ex-coach seems to fit her. "We changed everything in her game actually", the long curly haired Dutchman said to journalists yesterday. Everything? Really? "Yes, everything. When we started working together I thought her game was so-so. It was a little surprise to me, I thought she would be stronger on some shots. So we started it all from the beginning". It suddenly clicked.
Yesterday Safin, being the good big brother he is, sent a SMS to congratulate his overexcited sister. (in English in the text)

There are still things I don't get... Henin was 8th and she's now 3rd, although she has not won nor lost any points compared to last year. I could understand she went ahead in the WTA Race, but in the entry ranking? it's based on 12 months results, she won the final of RG 12 months ago, she reached it again last weekend, how can this change her ranking? :help:
