Now Mieke after not attending church in 66 years I doubt you'd get the nuns to come over here. They would be busy with you for quite some time and in the meantime moral on this thread would hit rockbottom. Dinara is in the team. :D MOSCOW (Reuters) - Elena Dementieva and Nadia Petrova will lead champions Russia in next month's first round Fed Cup tie against Belgium. With Anastasia Myskina, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Maria Sharapova unavailable, Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev has called up Fed Cup newcomer Maria Kirilenko and Dinara Safina for the April 22-23 clash in Liege. Former world number ones Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters are expected to lead the Belgium team. Former French Open champion Myskina is taking a year off from her Fed Cup duties while 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova has skipped the tie because it is held on clay. What a piss poor excuse! Vass 03-22-2006, 11:29 AM I CAN forgive Nastya for not playing, not that she woudl haev won anything there, but why isn't Sveta playing FedCup?? And Masha... I think she's not not ready to play on clay. She's just shy of the atmosphere on the team. Everything's so uncomfortable, unfamiliar, doesn't know how people will look at her.... bellascarlett 03-24-2006, 02:36 AM Yep, Shamil T said in his personal TV show that Maria S is not ready for those top Belgian girls on clay. Shamil has his own TV show? oh and ulrike, maria just got to the FO quarters last year. had to face justine too early :o. anyway, but she has reached the quarters for the last two years so her clay game is slightly underestimated. but yeah she's def no justine on clay. it was no surprise that she didnt sign on for this tie. it was always gonna be played on clay. tall_one 03-24-2006, 02:40 AM ... yeah she's def no justine on clay.. she is still better then Dinara & Maria Kirilenko on clay, not that i wouldn't rather have Dinara playing but talent wise... bellascarlett 03-24-2006, 03:29 AM she is still better then Dinara & Maria Kirilenko on clay, not that i wouldn't rather have Dinara playing but talent wise... well Maria probably would have done more damage...i dunno...but i really think it's too much pressure for her to be playing her first ever fedcup match on clay. a lot has already been made about Maria and her playing fedcup for Russia. I would just assume and do understand that a player of her level and popularity would want to have the upperhand in her fedcup debut. there's a lot at stake for her. in other words, she has to win i think especially since she would have been leading a team who has been the champions for the last 2 years. if this tie had been on hard or grass, she'd probably be there. oh well...why did it have to be against belgium right away dammit? i have faith in lena though. she'll find a way to lead her team to victory. it will also be a good chance for dinara and kirilenko to step up. plus nadia is good on clay. just needs to have her head screwed on right. :) BelgianWaffle 03-24-2006, 06:20 AM oh and ulrike, maria just got to the FO quarters last year. had to face justine too early :o. anyway, but she has reached the quarters for the last two years so her clay game is slightly underestimated. but yeah she's def no justine on clay. it was no surprise that she didnt sign on for this tie. it was always gonna be played on clay. Oops you're right :o I agree with her being underestimated, btw. It's true, she has no "touch" at the net, her volleys make me :bolt: and I've seen maybe 3 succesfull dropshots (fine, I'm overdoing it :p ) but she has a good serve and backhand and if pounding away from the baseline like she does gets you a Grand Slam and the number one spot it says more about the state of women's tennis than her game.
