Roger's improvment

Am I the only one who think that Roger has improve since he's been with Roche?

He has better volleys. He does serve and volleys much more. He is no longer afraid to use his dropshot. In the short amount of time that Roger has been with him, I can see that Tony has done not too bad..

I don't know!

Quite honestly, after watching today's game, I really don't know. But I agree with you, for now. If he continues to choke at Wimbledon and US, then there might be some problems. However, Roger is a smart guy. If Roche is telling him the wrong techniques and the wrong strategies to use, I'm sure he'll recognize that. I'm not sure if Roger this year, if he didn't have Roche, would have done any better. He was just completely outplayed today, and his bad game was magnified by Nadal's precision. Even in Roger's loss to Safin, he was still extremely close to winning, and added to that fact that Safin played incredible tennis, Fed was doomed either way. So really...I don't know, but I have doubts to Roche being a negative influence.

Roche is going to help him with strategies and also with techniques, notably volleys
I think his volleys have improved a lot
As for strategy, how can it have worsened? I mean, he can listen to himself and Roche, and if he doesn't like Roche's ideas he can just do what he thinks is best. So I think its good to have Roche on board

All improvements go down the toilet, if you can't win the key points.

I think that without Roche, he wouldn't better than this year in RG. TOday, it was his own fault. He was not able to find his game.

Only, naive fans, like Makro, are thinking that last year's results can be repeated. I'm very disappointed with Roger's effort today. He promised to play " like there's no tomorrow", but it did not happen.

Nope, he tried very hard. He was too emotional and not enough of a thinker out there. He didn't use too many Roche tactics like chip and charging and S/V. I don't know how anyone could blame him. Roger just fucked up tactically and couldn't keep his patience out there. His improvements with Roche will show soon during the grass and hardcourt and indoor season. People tend to forget Roger did S/V a lot in 2003. This bad loss will fade away like many of the others. There is always next year.

These three losses will only increase the fire within Roger. He will end the year with no more than 5 losses this year(most likely coming in mid-fall, around second claycourt season)

For me RG was worse, maybe because I was there and just expected too much, but he was so tense and looked so uncomfortable and it just all went wrong while AO was a close match with many winners for both players. In RG Roger had so many errors, and not all of them were forced by Nadal.

As for Roche: I think he was a brave man to take the job, he must have known that he was up for much critisism if Roger had worse results than last year, which seems unaviodable. On close inspection, it is not true, however, he has more points now than he had last year in June. So things are not that bleak after all ;)

I think Roger will learn something important in this match~ ;)
