Tipsarevic 103rd in the world for the first round (quite hard even if Richie's seeded 10 for this tournament) and then he could face his friend Gaël Monfils in the secound round (hu ho...) and IF he goes through it is very likely that he'll have to play against a grasscourt tennis specialist in the person of Mario Ancic (very very very very hard for Richard... )!!
Guess the Queen's tournament will be a good test for Richard!

That would be soooo kind of you...
So what do you think of Richard's play on grass this year from what you've seen of his training? Did he hit the ball well? Because he was supposed to restart to train with Micka Llodra in Paris after the break he took after RG to breathe in Serignan with his friends and family but he could'nt because of some illness. So did everything looked ok for him? (Like before RG when he didn't serve during training because he had a problem with his shoulder... ).
Thanks in advance for your answers Eowyn! :) ;)

From the official site:

Tuesday Preview by Barry Newcombe

Richard Gasquet v Janko Tipsarevic: Gasquet leads 1-0

Richard Gasquet has been playing tennis since he was four so he will have had 15 years of differing experiences when he reaches his 19th birthday on June 18. He had an outstanding career at junior level and was world junior champion in 2002. He took another significant step this year when he defeated the world No 1 Roger Federer in the quarter finals of the Monte Carlo Masters. That is one of the reasons why Gasquet is seeded tenth for the Stella Artois tournament in which he is competing for the third time. His opponent Janko Tipsarevic from Serbia and Montenegro, is now in his fourth year as a professional and approaching his 21st birthday in the first week of Wimbledon. Gasquet and Tipsarevic, who is ranked 96th in the world, have one previous meeting, at challenger level, in Sarajevo in 2003 when Gasquet was the winner. Last month Gasquet reached the third round of the French Open where he was defeated by the eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

Verdict: Gasquet ready to advance

The first set was really good. Richard served really well and returned well. In the second set, Tipsarevic started serving better and Richard started missing a lot of first serves. He looked quite unsure of his footing on grass, which hampered the flow of his groundstrokes. Still, it's great that he finally got the win on UK grass. Hopefully, with this match and his doubles match, he'll find his rhythm on grass. :D

The Prediction from the Site:
Jamie Delgado v Richard Gasquet: First Meeting
This second round match puts the wild carded former British Davis Cup player Delgado up against Gasquet, the 19-year-old former world junior champion from France who is tenth seed for the title. The much travelled and widely experienced Delgado has already accounted for one junior champion from France in Gael Monfils and whatever happens against Gasquet he then has to set off for a first round match in the Wimbledon play off tournament where the winner from a 16 strong field will go into the main draw for The Championships. Gasquet's year includes a win in Monte Carlo over the world no 1 Roger Federer and he has wasted no time this summer in broadening his experience on grass as he prepares for his second Wimbledon.

Verdict: Gasquet to justify his ranking

Allez Richard :bounce:

Great wins today for Richard!! Great first set, but not a great 2nd set, but he got through!

Yes but his coach must be happy cuz' he always says that it is possible to see a great champion in a player when he can still win in spite of not playing well... ;) and that is what Richard is learning to do...(a few months ago he couldn't if you remember...).
And Richard is at the Queen's without his coach Eric Deblicker (but with his father Francis and a few other people...) because he had to go to a meeting of international coaches as he is also a member of the French Davis Cup team...So Richard has to manage alone... ;)

That's so great that Richard got through not playing well without his coach. That makes this win an even bigger achievement now. Along with Richard's father, is his mother there? And who are some of the other people?
Its good to see such a close group of people always with him.

delsa

I think his mother is not there as she very rarely follow him in his travels...And There isn't always a group of people with him but sometimes they're there it depends where he plays etc... I think Chesno (Andreï Chesnokov), Mr. Gonsalez (the psycholgist that is also a friend of the family and the father of Richard best friend since childhood...) and a few other persons may be a part of it...but i'm not sure at all. That's just that they are often mentioned when medias speak about, you know, Gasquet's "entourage"...Actually i don't know who follows him on the circuit...I'm just trying to guess...

Well I don't know about Chesno following him on the tournaments but I am sure Gonsalez doesn't. He is a famous psychologist in Beziers and has a lot of work. I don't think he has given up all his patients in order to follow Richard in the circuit.
But I am sure he shows himself available when Richard has doubts and needs to talk. (to show oneself available is not correct in english i guess but i couldn't find better  )

Btw, Richard's second round won't be on tv today!!!
I don't understand why he played in the central court yesterday and now that he's playing a british player, he is on court 1!

An anonymous poster ("invité" non registered...) on a French RG forum who said he was in the crowd watching the match. He said Richard was doing well the serve and volley, finding great angles with his backhand and everything that a good grass tennis game requires... But he hasn't posted a report that all the other posters were asking him to do so i hope he wasn't lying...But the score of the match shows it is probable that he is right...

Richard is not a clay court specialist. He's versatile /polyvalent but he must keep his head cold during his matches because he showed too much his frustration today...and lost his temper a lot during the second set when Ancic was cruising...(source: eurosport.fr live report during the match...)

Awesomse wins today Richard :woohoo:
I didn't expect him to win either match, but this is amazing. I couldn't be any happier. Seeing the results made my day :D

Preview from Official Site:

Richard Gasquet v Radek Stepanek: First Meeting
Richard Gasquet will never forget the Stella Artois championship because it is the first tournament on grass where he has won a match--three wins, in fact, to take him into the quarter finals against the fourth seeded Czech Radek Stepanek who he is playing for the first time. Gasquet, at 18, is the youngest survivor in the field and had to work hard to remove the fifth seeded Mario Ancic in the previous round. Stepanek, meanwhile, was beating Britain's Greg Rusedski who had considerable regard for Stepanek's serving. "He was very consistent, solid, "said Rusedski. "I think he served something like 78 per cent. So he played a very clever match. . . . " As the senior player in ranking and age-he is 26-Stepanek will start favourite today.

Verdict: Stepanek to improve his grass court record by reaching the semi-finals

I hope that prediction is wrong

That's ok...He lost in three sets...(even if the last two were apparently bad from him  ...). He had a fantastic run, he's getting used to grass and he reached the quarter finals of the Queen's for the first time! That's a great result for him! Let's hope he does this well (and even better...) in Nottingham and above all in Wimbly! ;)
Notice that the day coach Deblicker is in London with him he begins to loose whereas he was managing pretty well alone...Isn't it a sign? :o Eric you should have stayed at home! You jinxed him!

Oh dear! Richard and Julien pulled out of their doubles match and they put "(Gasquet)" as an explanation under "Results". ( http://www.stellaartoistennis.com/results.asp ) This, together with the easy 2nd and 3rd sets of the Stepanek match, is quite worrying.

I hope Richard's not injured or anything.

Basically he says that it was too painfull, he didnt sleep the night before, and that the painkillers had no effect... That was already the case at 4-3 in the first set, when he called the trainer. He also said that he would have never lost that match in normal conditions. He says nothing yet about Nottingham, next week, but i dont think he will be there... it wouldnt be wise!
Get better!

The main draw has been released for Nottingham.

Richard will play Zib. Maybe he will withdraw last minute.

There's this article on the BBC about the tournament

Murray & Johansson to meet again

Andy Murray will get an immediate chance for revenge when he faces Thomas Johansson in the first round of the Nottingham Open next week.
The 18-year-old Briton has been drawn against the man who beat him at Queen's on Thursday, after Murray had suffered an ankle injury and cramp.

Murray got the all-clear to compete following an MRI scan.

Johansson is the second seed behind Ivan Ljubicic, with Dominik Hrbaty and Richard Gasquet also in the draw.

feel so sorry for Richard, I know what tooth pain is all about, and such a shame he had to pull out of the doubles as well. oh well, better he rests up before Wimby.

I'm from OZ and Fox sports is showing the Queen's tournament semi's only what could have been, if Rich was still playing, I would have loved to see him beat Roddick LOL

And its great he's made the Davis Cup, and does France play against Russia? Cause I hope he plays against Safin, him and Rich are my most fave players on the tour :D

If Richard plays Nottingham, he has quite a good draw. Zib in the 1st round might be tough, then either Marray or Mackin (both British WCs). If he gets through both matches, he'll meet Srichaphan, or probably a qualifier (Paradorn's form this year... :o ). Johansson and Ljubicic are his probable SF and F opponent IF he gets through all those matches.

That's if he's well enough to play Nottingham of course. :p

He does have a pretty nice draw if he does decide to play Notthingham which I really hope he won't if he's not feeling 100 percent.

We will just have to wait for more news I guess. I would of loved to see that Andy-Richard semi. Everytime they have a chance of playing one of them losses. (In Hamburg they could of played 2 round, but Andy lost)

Good Luck Richard

We'd have seen every single teenager (who thinks baby like me?... ) problems possible with Richard... First the crushing chicken-pox at the beginning of the season (eruptive desease generally appearing in children if i remember correctly...... ) now the toothaches because of a wisdom tooth removal...(hum...no comment... :p ). ;) It's maybe time for Richie to grow up a little even in the deseases he suffers from he seems to be a little childlich... :baby: :tape:  ...
But looking at the bright side (copyrights for this optimistic expression go to Silverwhite... ;) ) it means that we'll have had it all in one season so after that it will hopefully be over with all these "unexpected" problems...
Because he couldn't come up with something more extravagant, could he?... :help:  :bolt:
Now wether he rests  and take time to heal before Wimbly or if he thinks he can be at 100% he shows up at Nottigham were he could really have a good run...
It's better that he choose the option that he thinks is wiser for him...
I for one, hope he can play in Nottingham...

"Richard Gasquet (France), the 4th seed, world no.29 and rising star of men's international tennis, meets Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic in the first round. 18 year-old Gasquet, the French No.2, defeated Hrbaty and Karlovic earlier this year in Hamburg, only to lose to world no.1 Federer (Switzerland) in the final. Gasquet, a quarter-finalist at Queen's this week, will be hoping to celebrate his 19th birthday next Saturday in the final on Nottingham's centre court."
