Hi, everybody. I am a fan for Federer and Nadal both. I think Roger will win the FO this year and this result would actually be better for Nadal's future. This is my opinion. May be I am wrong. :wavey:

Hi Duane! :wavey: Welcome to Roger's forum!! Is it a bit complicated for you to see your two favorites facing each other in an important stage like SF of French Open?

And, I hope you are right about Roger winning and Nadal losing but good for his future...

You're right duane. A loss for Nadal wouldn't harm him, it could even become a big help for him by taking down the hype a little bit. Despite how mentally tough you are on the court, getting hyped like Nadal is, will truly effect an 18 (soon 19) old "kid" sooner or later. Beeing tough and mentally strong on the court doesn't mean you're as tough outside the court, to handle it. It's a little bit like capriati years ago (really just a little bit ;) ), though i don't think Nadal will fall into that hole. :)
Besides this is a great opportunity for Roger to win RG and will take a lot of pressure for him in the future, too.

It's nice to find a group of other Roger fans here!

HOPP HOPP Roger ! ALLEZ Roger !

It would be so wonderful if Roger could win the SF and eventually the title. It'd be great for him to join the list of guys who have won all 4 slams.

It will be something to see how Roger manages against the all out pace of Nadal and the way he gets back so many balls. The thing that gets me is that Nadal will just take a flying stab at a ball out wide and still it he gets it back and it's often a winner. That's sick ! Roger will have to be his best in their match. Roger has the weapons to win, and I hope he does. It will be great for tennis if Roger wins. Let's cut down on the Nadal hype mania and realize that Roger is still the greatest. Sure Nadal is a rival, but Roger is not going away !

Roger will not have a better chance than this but even if he lost there is always next year and years after that. Roger will be around for a long time if he doesn't suffer any major injuries. The sooner he wins this thing the better he will be as a player. Roche has to get some sort of coaching legacy off of Roger because if Roger doesn't win RG under him; I think the press will blame Roche for it.

Welcome TC. :wavey:

I feel you there, Pam ;)

We all have to be prepared for a tough match. Many said Nadal can't win RG this year coz he's only 18, and it's his first time playing here etc but so far he showed no sign of nerves and is incredibly focus (you can dislike him, but can not disregard that is admirable from a 18 yo). From their respective interviews, neither feel having any advantage or disadvantage over each other. I find it interesting to note that Nadal who had said a few times before that "if Federer plays his best, he will win" had changed to "it's 50/50 and if I play my best, I have my chance" sth like that, being more focus on himself now, that shows his confidence too, rightfully so with the way he had been winning.

Also majoriy draw their conclusions that if Nadal can come close to beating Rogi in Miami final, he should be the favourite here, but I like to stick to my conclusion that Rogi won the 4th and 5th sets rather easily, so Rogi can adjust to Nadal's game and will find the way to win...yeah I know...I'm slightly bias here, I just want to focus on the positive part :p

Too many speculation in GM on who will win, and some big talks from respective fans but the fact is that nobody have a clue what will happen. For me, I just want to believe that Rogi CANand WILL WIN this (yeah I learn this from poster of GM, seems like if you underline and type in CAPITAL letters, it might just turn into the fact ;) )

Yeah, lsy, it will be a tough match. That's for sure.

Yet it doesn't mean that Roger cannot manage to win. I think he would lose one(or 2, less likely, I predict) set but still will come through and win.

I got an impression from his interviews that somehow he has learned how to handle Nadal's game and already set some strategy for the match. Even considering Nadal is a better player than him on clay like claimed by media or many others, winning a Grand slam is not necessarily up on only tennis itself.

All in all, I have strong belief on him and his chance. Yes, he CAN and WILL win!

Allez, Roger!!! :rocker2: :rocker2: :rocker2:

Of course,Roger CAN win this match - if he will - needs to be seen!

I donīt want to underesstemate Nadal,he still has this "nothing to lose" feel to him and at then 19,he surly is entitled to feel that way - he is somewhat of a lose canone.

Having said, that - Iīm not as nervose as I was before the Safin match at the Aussi Open - Roger has more ases up this sleeves, than Nadal!

Good Luck,Roger :)

Canīt wait to watch - canīt wait for it, to be over - with hopefully the right result!

This might be stupid to say being a Roger Fan

But I really hope that Roger can win Friday and Sunday, for one more reason.

Which is that for everyone as tennis fans, the chance to see a player during your lifetime win the career slam is becoming less and less likely. This is an opportunity to see tennis history being made in a way it may not ever be again for a long time. The game is only going to get deeper, and the players are most likely to get more and more specialized

May the Tennis Gods hear me say this!
I don't mind that Roger is pushed all the way before hoisting the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen --I want him to earn it-- but this is his moment in history.

While nervous about this match, I do feel an assurance of sorts, knowing how aware Roger is about the dangers that Nadal poses and that he truly does rise up to the challenge.

He did say in his interview that he feels he has learned how to play Nadal and it was obnvious during the first one and a half sets of the Miami final Roger was trying to figure it out. Besides, knowing that Nadal is the big favourite going into this match and with Roger's pride on the line I will be very surprised and disappointed if he does not come out producing his absolute best tennis on Friday. He KNOWS what he needs to do.

I think the problem is that Nadal doesn't play in the FO as he played in Miami... On claycourt he gives back every ball and makes only a few mistakes :(

Yes, clay is different, but Roger has the weapons and if he makes him move laterally as well as side to side and keeps him guessing eventually the shell will crack. By that I mean he would have to hit one shot deep with pace, the next shot angled with heavy spin, throw in the occassional dropshot. If he can get the sequence right while keeping his UE's to a minimum he will come out on top.

A lot also depends on the weather on Friday and how Roger will play the match. If it is a cool damp day, Roger should utilize his slice backhand and make the ball dig into the surface. On a warmer day Roger should up the pace and try to keep Nadal pinned back so that is another factor to consider.

Nerves are yet another factor- let's not forget Roger has been in these stages of big events before and Nadal is a first time GS semifinalist. A little bit of nerves here and there may just be enough to tilt the pendulum. Both have had comparatively easy draws and neither has as yet faced an opponent as tough as the other. Roger has the uncanny ability to step up his level when he knows he is playing a potentially dangerous match. He has conserved energy, he will use these two days to iron out all the creases and I am sure as we speak he and Roche are working on game plans, and backup plans for the match.

It will be mighty tough and I think Roger goes into this match as the underdog but therein lies the rub: he has the ability to come out and surprise everyone.

Everytime that people in the media or GM put Roger as the underdogs. He has always destroy his opponents. Considering that Roger is smart and that he has one of the best coach (who is a lefty), I believe that they have many secrets in ther sleeves.

I quite agree. In addition, I would say that the 2 keys of the match are his ability to vary his game, to make Nadal crazy, and his ability to tire him. Let's not forget the crazy clay season Nadal has had, and the fact that in Miami Roger was fresher in the 5th set than Nadal.

I don't mind that Roger is pushed all the way before hoisting the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen
I'm so much with you on this one, however, it is the "Coupe des Mousquetaires" for the men :wavey:
If Roger passes the Nadal obstacle and wins the title, nobody will ever say "He had an easy draw" or "He was lucky". Nadal is really on fire, and to beat him this year on clay, you have to put your guts on the table...
That would really make history...

That's a big IF against Nadal who just won't let you methinks :scared: I don't think Roger will have advantage playing around the baseline. I still believe Roger must come onto the net to volley Nadal, to finish off as many points as possible while having to really make sure about the RIGHT time to come up. That said, SERVE is very crucial to Roger too. In addition, hopefully Roger won't get frustrated when seeing his absolute winners coming back to him once and once again with good length and position meaning to let him down.
Nerves are yet another factor- let's not forget Roger has been in these stages of big events before and Nadal is a first time GS semifinalist. I don't have any doubt about that part of Roger. But I don't think Nadal will actually act like he is a first time GS semifinalist. Nerves won't get into him being on crucial moments, like what we saw in the Ferrer match, I mean that  point.
It will be mighty tough and I think Roger goes into this match as the underdog but therein lies the rub: he has the ability to come out and surprise everyone.

You're kidding me!!!! I thought I'm the only taping it
Yes, I will be at the computer, tracking scores and on this forum, begging for info
I will then watch it only WHEN (not if) Roger wins
I also did this for W 2004 and AO 2004 (unfortunately, never summoned the courage to watch the AO 2004 --will tape over it)

You sound just like me ;) During the Wimbledon final last year, I sat upstairs with the Sunday paper all afternoon, and only nipped down every so often to check scores. Fortunately one of those times was when Roger was 2 points from the match, so managed to see the end "live".

I still haven't watched the AO semi from this year - need a lot of courage (and a DVD player) for that. I did watch the Kuerten match from Roland Garros a few months ago and quite enjoyed it.

Isn't it awful to have the choice of two live channels to watch this match (BBCi and Eurosport), and yet not want to see it?!!

I will be doing this, too..but I will watch it even if he loses...but it will be a while before I do...Of course, there will be no problem, because I really feel in my heart that he will win~ :)

Wow- good to know I am not the only one. I was exhausted yesterday went to sleep at 12.30 am you'd think I'd sleep in late but no, at 6 am I woke up in a cold sweat having dreamt that Roger lost the RG semis to Coria and that Duck had beaten his opponent in 5 sets and would play Coria in the final  :bolt: Needless to say I couldn't sleep anymore after that :o

I virtually have no appetite, I feel as if I need to restrain myself from just pacing around all day, the hours seem to crawl by and I have a headache. Does that make everyone else feel better?

i tossed and turned in bed all last night and finally stopped getting up in between to check MTF at 3 am. i had a dream that roger won the first two sets and lost the last three to nadal 6-0,6-0,6-0 :bigcry:. i woke up crying. i can't take the wait anymore, this is ridiculous. i've never had nerves this bad. this can't be healthy :help:, i can't think of anything else all day long. the headaches are torturous, the wait and the anticipation is more than i can handle. im a bundle of nerves and so edgy :scared:. in conclusion, ditto RonE

I hope Roger is relaxed, but not too much! It concerned me when he said he got over-excited at the prospect of getting to the semifinal and then double-faulted three times in a row. He definitely feels more than he lets on (except when it's all over).

I can't watch it live, which is probably a good thing. I don't expect to get much work done, though.

I'll watch the match..well most of of anyway, i know i'll change the channel at every df, ue and (god forbid) break chances on his serve :scared: I'm also trying to decide whether i'll tape it myself or let someone else do it. If it's an unhappy outcome, i know i'll still end up watching the tape often analyzing every excruciating point....so i think i'll have someone who doesn't care do it. Anyway, i hope all the excitement and anticipation of this match culminates in Rogi bringing his best tomorrow....and Sunday. We know he'll do it
