Many commentators keep mentioning that Federer, Nalbandian, Roddick and other young players were good juniors and had won junior slams. However, I never heard them mentioning anything about Marat as junior player. In some interview, Marat's mother said that his sister (Dinara) was already a better junior (I think her career high was runner-up at Wimbly juniors) and that she would turn out to be a more accomplished player.
So this prompted the following question: was Marat a good junior? Does anybody here know anything about his junior results? Or maybe you have any suggestions where I can look up for some info?

Yeaa, I have the same question....... me either, I have never heard anything.... As Marat spent most of his training life in Spain maybe you could find some info at Spanish resources, maybe Marat won some Spanish challengers or sattelites...

Likewise, i've not heard much about Marat's junior playing days. I am curious to know for example what his highest ranking was as a junior or some of his achievements/results. Somehow though, i don't think they're as distinguished or note-worthy as those of Federer, Nalbanian, Roddick or some of the others or we would have heard more about it.
I'd like to help but unfortunately i don't know how to go about finding out such information.

I just PM TheBoiledEgg asking him about any info he may have re Marat as a junior and here's what he had to say:
"I know he didnt play much in juniors but dont know how he did as he was based in Spain.
I've emailed the ITF to get his details."
You guys may also want to give it a go: firstname.lastname@example.org
Hopefully TBE will get back to me with those details from the itf and when he does i'll post it here for everyone.

Really, not the results one can be proud of :o.
This is just another reason why I cannot understand why people get so excited when juniors start their career on the professional circuit and take it for granted that a brilliant junior will become a top ranked pro.
And Marat is really a very special tennis player :)

Thanks TBE I never knew all these results before.
It just shows that being a good junior doesn't say much.
