A player like Nalbo is always vulnerable to players with big serves because his service games are more difficult to win. Hanescu's serve must have won him the match today. That said, Nalbo should have won this match today.

I doubt you can change your service motion mid-career.
He must get more zip in his serve from somewhere. Perhaps using a heavier racket or developing more upper body strength would enable Nalbo to serve harder.
If Coria or Hewitt can do it, why can't Nalbo?

In the men's game, you can't reach the top without a good and consistent serve. I've watched Nalbo play alot over the past 2-3 years, and his groundies and overall game merits a Top 5 place at least. The serve is the missing link.

Tuga, maybe today it was more than a lack of concentration and confidence. I honestly think there's a physical problem because he usually doesn't fall down that quickly in form when up two sets to one. We will never really know, will we?

After Munich, I really thought he was going to do something special in this clay court season.
To be honest, I don't think much of his chances at Halle because he hasn't played on grass for 2 years. I think he'll use the grass court swing as a good preparation for the DC Tie against the aussies, but I'd love for Nalbo to have a good run at Wimbledon.

I saw the match from the end of the third set onwards. And I can't explain better my notion, that he was not really there and did not give it 100 %, for whatever reason. Hanescu was rock-solid, though, very controlled demeanor and took his chances when offered on a plate.

OK guys - well I've talked a little about this match over on GM - see my "friend" t_d is trashing me again - OMG I am so scared!!!! Anyway - what more is there to say? David played liked shit - he had no focus, no concentration, his serve was ghastly - he didn't deserve to win that match and he didn't - end of story.

Hanescu did not play particularly well, but he did have a lot more concentration and stability than David - and, of course, his serve is MUCH better!!! He has good length on his groundstrokes, - he kept his focus well - I congratulate him.

At first I thought David was just "unsettled" by the early start and playing on a half emptry grandstand court, - but the fact is, that even when he won the 2nd and 3rd sets his level wasn't really much better  Yes - I know the blisters were bothering him, but he won't use that as an excuse. It's just one of those things "bad day at the office" as they say.

I am not sad - to be honest I don't usually expect him to get past the 1st round  so 4th round was a bonus for me. I guess I am a little irritated though if I'm honest, - not for myself, but because I never like to see someone losing because they "gave" the match away and didn't play as well as they could - at least if you play your best and go down, then you have gone down with dignity and I'm not so sure I can say that about David today. I feel sorry for his Mum and Vicky to have travelled all that way to support him, - I feel he let them down, and also Eduardo, Javier, Diego and Lucho who work so hard - it's not easy for them to "suffer" a match like that and see all their hard work wasted.

Still - never mind - that's all from me for now.

Bye for now :wavey:

I feel sorry for his Mum and Vicky to have travelled all that way to support him, - I feel he let them down, and also Eduardo, Javier, Diego and Lucho who work so hard - it's not easy for them to "suffer" a match like that and see all their hard work wasted.

I can understand being a little raw after seeing such a tough loss so maybe you didn't mean this how it came out...

I'm shocked by that statement if I am understanding correctly. David doesn't owe anyone anything. His Mom and girlfriend should want to go and support him no matter what and not feel like it was a trip wasted only because David did not play at his best. As for all the "hard work wasted,"...I don't know how to respond to that because you're making it sound like David is worthless and not worth the time.

I don't know him personally, as you do...but this does seem a bit harsh.

It's not like he did a terrible tournament! He made it to the R16, of a GS in which surface is the one that he dislikes the most! Let's try to let our anger aside and try to see things in a more positive way :yeah:

I agree Jime...you just reiterated what I said earlier...now is not the time for anger...he has a long way to go until November...so much could happen...and I'm sure even better things are just around the corner ;) ...so lets put our disappointment to one side and cheer him on...

I couldn't agree more. I can understand being disappointed and all, but this statement sounds rather personal.
