I was looking for previous matches of david against ancic, and david beat him 3 times, two in grass when they were juniors, and last year in basel, and he had never lost a set agains him, so i think that david can win this time also.

jazz_girl
05-26-2005, 01:45 PM
If he plays like yesterday, then he'll beat him for sure!

That's great news, nalbo is finally on a show court.
I might be able to see him play if eurosport show it.
As we all know anything is possible with nalbo, but I am confident of his chances.
Vamos!!!!

gooner88
05-27-2005, 05:48 PM
They've moved the nalbo-ancic match onto Court 3 due to all the matches on the lenglen court going the distance.

Nalbo up 4-2 with a break. Ancic to serve

sophia_c

Nalbo takes the tiebreak 7-4

gooner88
05-27-2005, 07:16 PM
I think they'll probably suspend play for the day
Nalbo should have won that second set alot easier. He had 3 set points when he was 0-40 and 5-3 up. He also failed to serve out the set twice.
But the most important thing is that he is 2-0 up in sets. Vamos :yeah:

frula08
05-27-2005, 07:19 PM
finally he won a tiebreak again, the last one was with ferrer in the first round of australia.

novanora
05-27-2005, 08:03 PM
Well done David !!!!! Now Hanescu, what do you think?
He can beat Hanescu without any doubt. Hanescu did surprise me these days, he beated Chela, and Horna today. But this is his end.

David, meet Roger in QF!!!! :woohoo:

gooner88
05-27-2005, 08:04 PM
If it's definitely confirmed that nalbo's won, then... :woohoo:
This match was very tough, and it's great to see that nalbo won in straight sets.

Julio1974
05-27-2005, 08:04 PM
I was surprised by Hanescu's victory today. I thought Horna would beat him.

Jazz, can you get the live broadcast from TV?

I am afraid they do suspend it at the MP time....
No, it's not on tv here, but in the news they're saying he won, so I'll believe them
Now Hanescu, I belive he can beat him ;)

gooner88
05-27-2005, 08:06 PM
I was surprised by Hanescu's victory today. I thought Horna would beat him.

I'm not surprised that Horna lost. After he won the match point against Tim, he couldn't walk properly. Must have been a leg injury that didin't heal in time.

frula08
05-27-2005, 08:08 PM
i saw hanescu playing some matches, horna is not a great player, and hanescu is not a good player.
the only good thing is his serve, he makes lots of first serves in, always above 67%, but david´s return is the best in the world, so i have faith on david.

Björki
05-27-2005, 08:09 PM
I also believe David can beat Hanescu :) VAMOS

Julio1974
05-27-2005, 08:09 PM
I'm not surprised that Horna lost. After he won the match point against Tim, he couldn't walk properly. Must have been a leg injury that didin't heal in time.

I did not know that. I watched only the first three sets. I was rooting for Tim and when he lost the third set I thought it was enough.

Now let's wait for Rosie's report to have an idea of how David did today.

frula08
05-27-2005, 08:16 PM
he looks so unhappy in this two pictures, maybe he isnot satisfied with his service today.

jazz_girl
05-27-2005, 08:16 PM
I can't wait for Rosie's report either. I couldn't see the match, nor follow it online properly, but from the stats, it looks like David didn't play as well as against Berdych...

Can I :woohoo: yet?

OK - well it's 10.45pm here - I am just back from the match and must go out again in 30 minutes (damn stupid time to eat dinner in my opinion  ), but as you all seem to want my report - here goes - apologies for any typing errors - I am shattered!

OK - well - first it was a long day - we got to RG at 12.00pm., - practice was at 1.30pm - and then we waited and waited - and waited................Damn Davenport and Grosjean with their long, final set matches  By about 5.30pm we knew we would be moved to another court - but didn't know which one - favourite choice was the Central Court after Mary Pierce's match had finished - but life is never straightforward with David - so off we went to Court 3 instead.........

But - the funny thing was - Court 3 was actually a much better bet - some of the main courts have no atmosphere when it gets late and ticket holders go home and other people can't get it, but Court 3 was the only court left with tennis on the outside courts, so it was jam-packed with people. Loads of noisy Croatians with flags, loads of Argentines - it was great fun. :)

First set was little strange - both David and Mario were unsettled by the long wait and the change of court, and both took a while to settle in.

But after the first few games - wow - it was a really great match - Mario played great - he probably deserved to take a set off David - he got some amazing shots back, his serve was working well in places, - and David was amazing on his backhand and groundstrokes - also some excellent volleys.

Unfortunately, David's serve let him down big time again - back to the bad old days I think. He served for the 2nd set twice and lost his serve both times, - and there were some very shaky moments in the tie break. The air was blue around team "N" I have to say.

Third set was strange - Mario was very unhappy - wanted to break overnight for bad light - can't say I blame him - the light was fading very fast - match didn't finish til 10.00pm. In fairness to him though, he didn't complain too much and David and the Umpire were happy to compete it. It is obviously better for David to have a whole day off if possible - the blisters on the fingers of his right hand (that i told you about in the Berdych match) are still troubling him quite badly - and very nasty they are too

On the whole - I enjoyed this match a lot more than the previous two, OK - David's level in places wasn't as good as in the Berdych match, but the atmosphere was great. There were chants of "David, David" and "Mario, Mario" at each change of ends - loads of flags and football shirts - much like a Davis Cup tie or a football match. David was delighted to win - Mario took defeat like a man and thanked his Croatian supporters very graciously at the end which was great to see.

All in all - a fantastic evening - now can I get some food?

Julio1974
05-27-2005, 08:56 PM
Thanks a lot for the report... I hope the blister does not bother him too much.

he looks so unhappy in this two pictures, maybe he isnot satisfied with his service today.

David is not unhappy at all - trust me! But he IS very tired. It has been very hot here all week - especially today - over 30 degrees which is way too hot for Northern Europe, and the humidity is very high too. Weather forecasters here are saying it is 12 degrees above the average for this time of year - I saw many people collapse with heat exhaustion today - it was extremely unpleasant to sit in, must have been even worse to play in - so i think David just looks tired, hot and exhausted - not sad!!

jazz_girl
05-27-2005, 09:05 PM
It's good to know he's happy :) And Rosie, I heard in the news that yesterday over 100 people had to be attended because of the intense heat!
I guess this temperature is better for David, it makes the court faster, and it's what he likes ;)

I actually thought they moved the match to tomorrow and when I came back to the computer he had won the first set on Court 3

Congratulations David for this win in straight sets. :worship:

Rosie, thanks for the report. I've thought of you all afternoon long, because of the heat! It was the hottest day so far in RG, and players had decided to have the longest matches! Because of work, I've only seen the 5th set of Grosjean. As for Court N°3, that's where I saw Mantilla vs Novak. The court was overcrowded but we stood outside, watching from above the wall. And it was great! The atmosphere on those small courts, especially at the end of the day, can't be compared to the bigger courts like Chatrier or Lenglen. It's much more enjoyable in my opinion. :D Anyway, keep on having fun there! :wavey:

he must be happy because he won, but, well, is better that he is not unhappy, i think that he must be want to play federer in QF, as well as federer wants to play david.

he must be happy because he won, but, well, is better that he is not unhappy, i think that he must be want to play federer in QF, as well as federer wants to play david.

Actually David doesn't even think about playing Federer - or anyone else for that matter. People here on MTF seem much more intersted in that kind of head-to-head match up and defending points and all that stuff than David ever does. It is dangerous to look too far ahead in any tournament - just take one match at a time, concentrate on your fitness, your health and your play in each individual match - and to hell with the rest!!!!

frula08
05-28-2005, 06:44 PM
he said a few days ago that he wants to play federer, but he knows perfectly that he has to beat hanescu before that.
i hear an interview with david, and he said that hanescu is kind of accesible (i dont know if that word exist) opponent, and i am a little scared about him being so confident.

*Ljubica*
05-28-2005, 07:00 PM
Well I think I know the people involved well enough to know that he doesn't really care either way at this point - but if asked outright in an interview if you want to play Federer he could hardly say "no" could he  I hope he isn't too confident tomorrow too - he does seem to be which is a little worrying.

frula08
05-28-2005, 07:11 PM
i think that eduardo must have talked to him about this match (hanescu), about not being too relaxed if he doesnt want any surprise as the first set against baghdatis.

Well he is playing well and I hope of course that he does go on to play Roger...because Roger is a fish out of water on the red stuff..and that could make David's advance so much better...and I already had a bet that David could beat Roger if they play...maybe I am too confident  ...but I still think he could do it...however...one match at a time...its hot there...which should be okay for him...but its unusual...he has to concentrate on the job in hand and not get carried away with thoughts of Roger...which I doubt he would anyway...afterall he has a good winning record over him ;) and his team know what they are doing and their advice is invaluable..

Oh btw...Hi Rose :wavey: its hot here too....in fact the weather has been glorious these past two days...well for me it has...maybe not so much for you  ....I managed to tan up quite well yesterday and today...so bring on the sunshine :)
Vamos David..

Actually, David did say it was an accesible match, but that he should be careful. That's great to hear, because he's been overconfident in the past, and we all know how it ended ;)

he said a few days ago that he wants to play federer, but he knows perfectly that he has to beat hanescu before that.
i hear an interview with david, and he said that hanescu is kind of accesible (i dont know if that word exist) opponent, and i am a little scared about him being so confident.

An accessible opponent? Maybe an opponent he believes he has a chance against, yes. Although the danger of being overconfident is ever present, David knows full well he's in a GS, and I doubt very seriously he'll treat this match lightly.
