I was going to make it about Healey.... but the little sidenote I wanted to add, was from Hanley. I don't know if people care enough about them to start threads, so they can have this vague one for now...

Last week Paul won St Pölten with Lucas Arnold::
*In doubles No. 2 seeds Lucas Arnold and Paul Hanley, who were playing together for the first time, claimed the title after recording a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 3 seeds Mariano Hood and Martin Damm.

Paul Hanley clinches a second 2005 title after San Jose (w/ Wayne Arthurs) and 10th overall career title while Lucas Arnold claims his first trophy of the year and fifteenth career. Mariano Hood was looking to win a second consecutive title in St. Poelten. (2004 w/ Petr Pala).

Hanley:” This is the first time we were playing together and it turned out to be a great week. It is a great result with Roland Garros coming up. This is an important win for me as it is my tenth career doubles title.”

Arnold: “ I am very happy about this triumph and even happier because my little son Nacho has been here with me this week. I don’t know if we will play together in the near future but it was a really good week for us.”

Congrats to Paul + Arnold. I really like Paul.
Especially if he plays with Wayne.

did u know, i shouted in the court "Go Hanley" "Come on Hanley" then he smiled...oh my god....he remembers me, coz last friday i went to the hilton hotel, and hanley's dad and mama was there too, i asked hanley" shall we take a pic" then his father said: oh dear, my son is so ugly, why you want to take a pic with him>" haha, that was really funny, then Hanley smiled, but he didn't say anything...after that i went to him again and asked him for an autograph, his father said:" oh dear....did u know, my son is not a good player" haah, but i told him that i really like Hanley. after that, hanley was shy. haha, i love this guy...but...they are out...

(Do you think thats a play on words? LUCzaK?)

PETER Luczak almost cracked the top 100 this season, sits third in the national rankings and played Davis Cup for Australia.

But there is not the slightest hint the baseliner thinks he will automatically receive a wildcard into next month's Australian Open.
Experience has carved a cautionary edge into the Melbourne counter-puncher's amiable personality.

There is a palpable sense of destiny surrounding the Victorian, who believes if he is to win a main draw invitation, it will have to be earned.

Luczak will next week vie with 15 compatriots for the coveted wildcard after attending the Australian Open training camp at Melbourne Park, which begins today.

At No. 3 in the Australian pecking order, Luczak has only Lleyton Hewitt (No. 4) and Wayne Arthurs (No. 101) ahead of him.

Nothing, however, is taken for granted.

"You never know, it's going to be tough, we've got some good youngsters coming up," Luczak said of the playoff.

"My ranking (No. 145) is almost at my career high. Even if I don't win the Aussie Assault, I still might have a good chance to get a wildcard.

"If I don't get a wildcard and have to go through qualies (qualifying), I'll have to go through qualies.

"I'm more motivated before the start of the summer than I ever have been before.

"I just can't wait."

Much of his enthusiasm stems from the strong gains he made in confidence and fitness at the start of the year.

That most unusual of tennis creatures -- an Australian claycourt specialist -- Luczak thrived in South America early this year to climb to 110th in the world.

The highlight of the Latino tour was a win over Olympic bronze medallist Fernando Gonzalez, of Chile.

But Luczak's favourite match was at Melbourne Park in January. It was, intriguingly, a loss to former Open champion Thomas Johansson, of Sweden.

"Last year I played Thomas Johansson first round (of the Australian Open) and it was the favourite match of my whole career," he said.

"I'm from Melbourne and playing in my home-court arena, we had all the Swedes in one corner and my family and friends in another section.

"The whole stadium was packed and I had goose bumps walking out for the fifth set. Even though I lost, memories like that just make all the hard work so much easier. You're motivated to get out there."

Luczak proved his desire during last week's Davis Cup sand dunes training camp on the Mornington Peninsula under former AFL defender Brett Stephens. Many of those Luczak bonded with last week will become his fiercest rivals next week.,5478,17483968%255E3162,00.html

hey im new to this aussie thread but i went to the aussie open the is year and ive just recently noticed how many good up an dcoming players we have but the only problem is no one knows about them to suport them sadly i was watching a match with Marc Kimmich and there was more support for the other guy we need to support them more and there should be more news on these players thanks for reading n also Marc kimmich is a great player and nice guy to
bec xox

01-29-2006, 07:14 AM
lol... in his defence, his opponent was Jarkko Nieminen, who had won a title only days beforehand *go Jarkko! First title ever, woot!*... and Jarkko seems to do well here with the Finnish fans. [Sooo can't believe he had a cheer squad this year!!] But, I completely agree with you. Kimmich was such a polite guy, and pretty competent too! Nice to see, and after this match I decided he was the third Australian player I like . I'm not sure if I've got any photos... if I find any, I'll upload them :yeah:

01-29-2006, 10:29 PM
yeah yeah you definately have a point but what im saying is that he deserves a cheer squad jarko coz hes good n all but that we are in australia and like no one was supporting marc and u kno wi read some where that he stopped playing tennis for six months because he was having problems and then to come back and win the mild card event and play is a really good effort anyways thanks for replying and if you have any photos that would be fantastic xox

The fourth-seeded tandem of Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett upset the second-seeded team of Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 (Match TB) to take the crown at Queen’s. This is the fourth title this season for the duo. They have taken crowns at ATP events in Rotterdam, Dubai and Hamburg.

This is the team’s first Queen’s title together but Ullyett’s second doubles title in the last three years. He captured the 2003 crown with then-partner Wayne Black.

With today’s win they will overtake the third-place team of Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor and will sit in third place in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race. Previously the team sat in fourth place, just 23 points behind Knowles and Nestor.

Bjorkman and Mirnyi finish as runner-up for the second year. Last season they fell in the final to Bob and Mike Bryan. But by finishing one round ahead of the Bryans, who fell this year in the semifinals, Bjorkman and Mirnyi take over the lead of the Stanford ATP Doubles Race.

Ullyett said: “To win this feels good. We started off a bit shaky this week going to a third set tie-breaker but after that we really got on a roll and played some of our best tennis. It was great to beat both the Bryans in the semifinals and Bjorkman/Mirnyi in the final. They’re the top two teams in the Race and it gives us lots of confidence going into Wimbledon.”

Hanley said: “Kevin and I have a pretty good record in the super tie-break so whenever we go into one we feel like we have a good chance. It was a little up and down but we tried to stay in the match and to our credit we never gave up. It was great to win an event, especially to beat two of the top pairs in the world.”

A cool article about Steve Huss :D:

During the LA tournament, I cheekily asked Steven if he was enjoying spending his Wimbledon winnings and he told me he'd invested it all.

Remember last year, when Ashley got hit with a tennis racket in a Challenger Final? I asked him about it at the LA tournament and told his I was suprised such a thing would happen. He replied,'I was surprised too.' Lol, lol..
