Up next, the French clay at RG. Can he defend his semifinal points-all 450 of 'em?

*Elsie*

No. If he loses against players like Santoro and Soderlingh (with all respect) how on earth can he make it to the semis in Paris this year?

I don't know...but actually I have to disagree with you Connie.

David is full of surprises..he can loose today with Soderling...but I think he can perfectly defeat any top player tomorow. That's David, when you think he can do it...he is defeated ,when you think he has no chance at all...he surprises all of us, and wins.

So I think it's very possible that has a good tournament in France. I don't want to put the target to high...but it can happen.

I agree Clau, besides, it's best of 5 and he usually takes advantage of that...

You know Jazz...I haven't lost my faith on him yet.

I am mad right now..I do.
But David is still my number one...I do believe he is capable to do big things.

Nalbo usually saves his best tennis for grand slams, where the best of 5 sets format suits him. However in the form he's currently in, i'm not optimistic of his chances.
Maybe he should hire a sports psychologist to make him mentally stronger?
If he can just become mentally stronger, he'll be top5 and winning big tournaments on a regular basis.

He already has a psychologist...

Thanks. I'm just so frustrated as a nalbo fan. Something is missing from his game, and from the match i saw today it just seems to be his mentality. From today's match he drifted in and out of the match too much and played his best tennis when soderling was serving for the match when it was too late.

I donīt know - I doubt he will defend the semi final points - but - hey - who cares - he is young - he has plenty more years ahead of him. Look at Safin and Ferrero - both of them have had bad years and still play well. Letīs just wait and see. If he loses in the firtst rond I wonīt care so much as long as he and the people with him are happy.

Let's not forget that after RG he doesn't have many points to defend, he didn't play the grass season last year, and many US tournaments. To tell you the truth, I'm looking forward to RG to see how Nadal, Coria and Gaudio do there, not so much because of David. I'm also looking forward to Wimby and the hardcourt season to see how David does there :)

Sounds like a pretty typical Nalbandian match. Has he been serving like crap again?

Is there any chance Nalbo will play the World Team Cup event next week? I know that this is unrelated to this French Open thread, but I doubt that both Coria and Gaudio will play next week in Dusseldorf if they go far in Hamburg.
Nalbo could be short of matches going into RG, and 3 guaranteed singles matches could be just what he needs to build up his fragile confidence.

Well...it's not as if he was doing a tank job out there. This match basically was decided by a few points here and there. No one was getting any Christmas gifts out there today, so I don't understand why you would be frustrated.

His mentality has a question mark on it at times, but right now, I'm sure he and his team are glad to be working at all, considering....David could be at home still fighting that virus. Think about it....

I guess it's possible for the reasons you gave. If David were interested and either Coria or Gaudio dropped out, I doubt he would meet much resistance from organizers if he offered to make an appearance. ;)

I haven't had time to follow much tennis this past fortnight. I hope his game is still in fairly decent shape. With the expectations lowered, pressure off, he could easily string together some good results. You just never know what he's going to do next.

I understand your points sigma. I was frustrated because he had many chances in today's match. For example he had many 0-30 and 15-30 plays on soderling's serve where he failed to get the ball back into play. That's where the frustration comes from.
I do tend to over-analyse sometimes ;)

It happens to the best of 'em. Anyhoo...David's still not 100%, not like he could be, and that will take time. And Soderling was too good for him on the day, so it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Itīs possible but unlikely. I was talking with David this mornng - he didnīt mention it. Certainly, a few days ago they were saying definately NO to WTC - things may change of course, and if I hear anything before I leave Hamburg I will let you know. I do seriously doubt that Coria will play. He has played a lot of tennis this past few weeks - he needs a break or he will be "stale" for RG.

Going back to England tomorrow - then to Paris May 22nd - it is only 2 hours on the train from London. If David decides to play St. P or WTC I may go back there just for the week-end but not sure yet. I have some stuff to attend to in London next week first.

Sounds...ahem...interesting. I'm not going to work today; however, I have to go to the university to participate in Reading Day-that is, getting together with a bunch of faculty from the English department to grade exit exams for freshman comp class. If the essays are anything like the exit exams we read in the meeting last week, I think I'll need more than coffee to sit through it. I'll need that, chocolate (your favorite), and toothpicks to keep my eyes open.

Well one of the nicest things about Hamburg is the so called "chocolate extravaganza" they serve in the Hotel...............it really is amazing though you darenīt think about the calories. When I have come back from the freezing practice courts each day I have had some with a large mug of steaming hot chocolate with extra cream :) Have a fun day!!

Yes :) Luckily I seem to have lost about 9lbs in the last 3 weeks - must be all the travelling and late nights, and smoking too much and irregular meals - so extra chocolate will not hurt me! All my clothes are too big for me at the moment.

I am watching David now on Eurosport play an exhibition tournament in Paris against Feliciano Lopez and he is playing really well. I know it's just an exhibition but it's not being played for laughs, they are trying to win. David's won the first set 6-3 and I know he won the second set as this is taped and they mentioned during the live semi final earlier that David had already won. David will play Roddick in the final tomorrow so would be a nice match to win

Well I have only been to Croatia once and that was in 1990...just before my sister was born...I was about 8 years old...so I can hardly remember it. I do fancy a weekend in Dubrovnik in high summer..maybe this year would be the year to do it after all the crap of 2005 so far.
The fall of Yugoslavia made up quite a lot of my Politics Degree so I have studied it all in depth...and to this day...all I can think of was "where the hell was the help when they needed it".....thats why I think the movies "No mans land" sums up the UN so well in this case...

Dubrovnik is way too hot for me in Summer - but it is lovely. Or you should try some of the Adriatic Islands like Hvar - they are gorgeous and completely unspoilt. The war was so horrible for me - having friends and family on "both sides" so to speak - it was a dreadful time - and I agree with what you say about the UN.
