Today (Friday, 6th May) organisers of the 10tele.com Open received confirmation that two of the rising stars of world tennis, the 18 year-old Frenchmen, Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils will compete in Nottingham between 13th-18th June. Both players are regarded by many as among the brightest young prospects on the world tennis tour.

Gasquet, ranked no.59 in the world, won a tournament earlier this year in Barletta, Napoli. However, it was the 6ft tall, right hand players recent defeat of world no.1 Roger Federer (Switzerland) at the ATP Masters Series Monte Carlo that arguably highlighted the world class credentials of the Frenchman.

In what was the first ever competitive match between the two players, Gasquet won his quarter-final encounter 6-7, 6-2, 7-6.

Renowned for his speed and strong baseline strokes, the 2002 world junior number one reached his first ATP final (l/Haehnel) in Metz last year. In 2003, ranked world no.93, he finished the year as the youngest player (aged 17) within the world's top 100.

His compatriot and fellow rising star, Gael Monfils (world no.79) has entered the qualifying rounds (11th-12th June) for the 10tele.com Open. Monfils, the 2004 world junior number one, only turned professional last year after winning three of the four junior Grand Slam events (see below).

Currently ranked 79th in the world, since last year he has moved up over 700 places in the Indesit ATP entry ranking system. Earlier this year, the 6ft 3, right-hander secured his first major tournament win in Besancon, Tunis.

Patrick Hughesman, tournament director for The 10tele.com Open expressed his delight that Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils will be in Nottingham in less than six weeks time.

Hughesman said; "Richard Gasquet has made a big impression on the circuit over the last few months, most notably by defeating Roger Federer, the world no.1 in Monte Carlo.

He's an exciting prospect; one of the young rising stars of the world tour." Hughesman added: "Gael Monfils is another young player who has captured the imagination of the tennis public. I'm sure both these players will be aiming to play well in Nottingham and stay hot on the heels of another young star, Rafael Nadal of Spain.

With the likes of world no.14 Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia) and world no.18, Thomas Johansson (Sweden) already confirmed for 13th June, the 10tele.com Open will definitely be offering tennis fans world class tennis this summer."

http://nottingham.lta.org.uk/Players/Players.htm
Players
The following players have announced that they will compete at this year's tournament;Nowhere does it say "main draw" (just "will compete"). It's possible Monfils could get in directly, considering he's the third alternate, or receive a wild card, but he isn't in yet. They just added his name to the website to advertise the tournament (which is probably a sign they will give him a wild card if he doesn't get in), but for now he's only entered in the qualifying.

Qualifying is, as you can probably guess, on the Saturday and Sunday. Matches on Saturday are played in the morning and afternoon (2 rounds) and the final qualfiying round is Sunday. Quite when the matches start is a mystery to me, but I would guess 10:00am because that is the LTA's favourite time to get lazy tennis players out of bed by

Yes I agree Jez, that is what I would have guessed - But should we have to guess?

At least in Futures the ITF site always clearly publishes the times.
But with the 10tele qualifying which will include players in the top 100 one would have thought that it would be publicised to get spectators along - If I was the sponsor of this event I would be very concerned!
I still keep looking at that web site feeling sure I must have missed it, because with qualies just two days away (possibly !) I just cannot believe there is no announcement.
Please tell me that I am wrong and have overlooked this information!

yeah and Ivo is great at making it past 1st round....7 of 12 1st round loses this year.

Ivan has better serve then Ivo and return game 1000 times better.
so Ivan would win 6-4 7-5

Ivo may have struggled but he is definitely much better on grass where his serve is virtually unbreakable. Sure, Ivan has a great serve but I feel Ivo's is more invincible. Also, the Nottingham courts have a really true bounce and they are very fast...plays into Ivo's hands.

Yes, Ivan's return is tons better, but Ivo can win just as many matches as Ivan 7/6 (11) 7/6 (5).

ivan is the king of fast courts..with the straight heat serve 135-145mph then the just ridicouls kick serve.that Agassi still has bad dreams about from davis cup...then Ivo cant keep up with ivan on ralleys...Ivan backhand is better then Ivo forehand and backhand combained

Yeah I agree on the groundstroke front...Ivo is sh*t and a decent club player could take him on  But he doesn't need to rely on that as much on grass...his serve does the talking and when it comes to a tiebreak he just needs to win a point against the serve, most of the time for the set to be his. Because his serve is so lethal, it is on a par with MOST of Ivan's game. The serve counts for 50% of a match...Ivo fulfills the whole 50%. Ivan doesn't...but he isn't that far off.

I could see Ivo knocking off anyone in the Nottingham draw. I reckon he could have a better run than Ivan. Let's see who is right...although I reckon I will lose again!
