If David could win just one GS or maybe the first GS of his career, which of these choices would you choose?

Has he ever said which Grand Slam he'd most like to win btw?

I think Wimbledon is the first, then USO, and then RG/AO...

Yeah I would have guessed he'd go for Wimbledon.... their breakthrough slam is always a special one for players. Oh well, I'm not voting tonight because I'm on my anti-roddick crusade and not thinking clearly.

The AO or USO, as I think those are his best chances to win a Slam... mind you, the only opponent I would give him a slim chance of beating in those finals is Coria on clay. He's pushed both Hewitt and Roddick to the limit at their home Slams, and the record against Federer still stands, even though they've yet to play on grass (where I think Nalbandian would still fancy his chances).

I know David's priority would be winning Wimbledon, and then the US Open, as he said so in one of his interviews. But I'm with Gigan, and as fantastic as it sounds, I will believe until the very last day of his career that he can win all four.

I hope this doesn't sound too off-topic, but are Coria and David very close friends? That's what I've gathered from their childhood photos, but commentators at the Davis Cup said otherwise. Does anyone know? Also, did there used to be an issue about Gaston Gaudio being jealous of Guillermo Coria?

Can someone fill me in on the goss! :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

They're not best friends, but they get along well. According to our commentators there were some problems between them in 2003, but after the Basel final they had a talk and everything was fine after that. They know each other too well cause they've been in the circuit together since they were Juniors, and every time they have to talk about the other, they have very nice words to each other, but they always say that the best friends are the ones you have since you're a kid and outside tennis.

No, no one said anything. I don't even think there was an argument. I guess it had to do with them being the only two top tens, and they grew some kind or rivalry, but I'm just guessing.

Maybe the media tried to "grow" a rivalry, and they got uncomfortable about being put in that position? That, of course, causes its own special brand of problems. Like you, jazz, I'm just guessing.

I voted "to beat Hewitt at the AO" because I don't yet recover the quarter final of this year  Even if it was a great great moment when he beat him in the Davis cup ;)
But I also want to see him as a winner in Wimbledon against Federer and Roddick in the UO :p
But for the French Open I'm divided cause I like both  :)

I think the poll should be changed to: Beat Nadal in RG. If Coria makes the final, I'd like to see him win the whole thing, it would be too much for him to lose it again.

Yeah I second that. Beating Hewitt in Aus open would be nice. Hewitt gets so much coverage over here and it annoys me. Not everyone in Aussie is a FAN of his. Funny tho how he pulled out of Shanghai stating personal reasons (ie baby on the way) and the baby is still not born yet. He could have played and been home by now and still be at the birth.

Yes. I was hoping that it would happen at one stage or another. It would be nice if David could topple another defending champion, wouldn't it?

It still hurts that Rogi lost, not so much that David beat him [since Rogi has always had probs w David anyway] but winning huge in Shanghai s give David tons of confidence and motivation to keep winning. The way he was playing in Shanghai was so focused -- you could see that he was getting into his stride in the previous tourneys and he sure peaked at the perfect time AND vs. his perfect opponent!

If at the AO HE could beat the guy who beats him, that w be gigantic. ;) It w be another battle of two very talented guys -- a very interesting one at that. Hmm... wonder how early they could meet each other? I don't even know what Marat's ranking is these days. :p

Will Marat even be seeded? Will he play? If not, then there's a huge opp for a guy like him.

yeah, we'll see... if Marat can't play the Hopman, perhaps he won't be fully fit for AO -- he's been out for such a LONG time now... he really s not have played what... Cincy? even Wimby... he'll be so out of it by AO. Lots of chances for the other guys. ;)
