Congratulations Juan Martin on an unbelievable comeback - from #485 to #5

I should start by saying that with the top 3 being so far ahead of the field and with Juan being capable of so much more, I don't think being top 5 in itself is particularly meaningful and I'm sure both JMDP and his fans are aware that he is capable of achieving much more.

With that said, given what happened after his US Open title, he deserves massive props. It was a very long road from when he dropped to #485 at the end of January 2011 and not a particularly easy road either - one marred with all sorts of new injury problems and some heartbreaking defeats. It took a lot of belief and mental strength for Juan to be where he is today, safely established as one of the best players in the world and producing great tennis on the biggest stages. If nothing else, being top 5 in the rankings now is symbolic of what a long way he has come in the last few years: frankly I feared he'd never be elite again when he went under the knife, so I'm incredibly happy and proud of him - I'm sure all his fans are.

Congrats Juan Martin on one of the best comebacks from surgery not only in tennis but any sport :worship: :yeah: Just try to stay healthy and the best might be yet to come.

Amen to no major injuries. Problem I see is that he is actually too tall to be able to sustain a long career. And we already know how his joints are not able to hold up. Shame because he needs matches to get into a groove but also needs to play less to be injury free.

If Del Potro wins another Slam then THAT is the greatest comeback in recent tennis history.

As if we needed any other sign that things aren't about to get any easier, JMDP caught a fever ahead of Shanghai, still fought his way to a third set tiebreak win over a very good Kohlschreiber :yeah: Haas next, hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

If Del Potro wins another Slam then THAT is the greatest comeback in recent tennis history.

Indeed :yeah:

Ufortunayely the end of 2013 wasn't that good - he didn't really play his best in the indoor stretch and that cost him a top 4 seed in Australia unfortuately. Let's hope for more progress in 2014 though, here's to a healthy and thus successful year :yeah:
