It's amazing how some people are willing to criticize Coria for every single declaration he made or every "improper" behaviour on court!!!

Don't you have anything else to do?

I wonder how many threads we would have had if Coria had abandoned a match like Kiefer against Gaudio (I saw only one comment about Kiefer not being too classy).

I think Coria'ss behaviour on court has improved a lot, he is a great player, he will be in the top ten for years and deal with it!!

Welcome to MTF, Julio. You'll find that certain cliques of fanatics make up the bulk of GM: Roddick-haters, Hewitt-haters, Coria-haters, and the soon-to-be-announced Nadal-haters. :o

All in good company. :)

Yeah, kinda agree with this, as a fan you better ignore the negative posts about your favs, coz they will only go on if people keep replying on it and get mad ;)

And about the Nadal-haters, I think they will come, I dislike him, I cheer against him. I don't call myself a hater, I won't attack players on what they say or something, I don't think you can hate people you don't know.

This is so true !!

I was live in Monte Carlo watching Coria play and his game is just so very BORING !!!

The only thing he ever does is shovel the ball back, running for it, shovel it back on court etc. etc..
The only shot he made winning points with is the stop- he did about a million stops against Ferrero or Nadal and of course he makes his points by waiting for the opponent to do the mistake.

I was the most happy person on earth when Nadal won !!!

I'm not a Coria fan, but I don't beat up on other people's favorites...it's just a sign of respect. There is nothing wrong w/ disagreeing on certain aspects of a player's game, but it should be left there...unless the player is an absolute "dick" then it's open season.

Definitely. His anticipation is amazing. He is like Hingis that way. Players can hit shots that would have been winners against a lot of other players but Coria often gets there with no problem and extends the rally and then takes control of it. Coria and Lleyton seem to have their on court actions put under a microscope and analysed a lot more than other players and seem to have a bad reputation but in their interviews, especially Coria's, they are pretty much always respectful of other players.

I'll tell you what is so bad about Coria's style of play.
I have played a lot of players who play like him in my life and lost almost every time and everytime I felt like I was the better player.

A player like Coria is content with just keeping the ball in play most of the time. The opponent has a lot of initiative and he is the one who creates power and angles. A player like Coria runs down everything and makes you hit 2 or 3 extra balls and that's very hard because you often want to do to much with the last ball(s). Also uses your power and angles to counterattack.

Now i don't see that as tennis. Call it anti-tennis if you want.

How often haven't i played someone who did nothing with the ball, didn't gave you pase or angles and ran down everything, but then again if you want to do something like attack the net, suddenly they can hit the most amasing passing shots or so often that stupid lob.

You can beat a player like Coria if you come with the goods, if you hit the winners, but once you make a few mistakes it's so easy to start thinking to much and doubting yourself.

I remember a player I couldn't win. Ran down everything. But I also played him indoors once, not on gravel, probably the easiest match i ever won in my life.

Players like Coria, you can include Ferrer there, ruin tennis in my oppinion.

I wont say anything about Coria as a person. I can probably write three pages about that.

I disagree, players like Coria give hope to us guys without the big weapons. With, tennis being dominated by power players these days, it's great to see guys like Coria can still compete at the top. Do you remember Michael Chang's epic win in RG in '89?! That gave hope and inspiration to a generation of players everywhere! (sampras, agassi included)

Oh, so there is now a limited definition of what is and isn't tennis. Good to know. Could you fill me in on when tennis stops being tennis? I'd like to know where we draw the line.

in '89?!

I was two years old in 89 :) Don't really remember. I'm not saying tennis should be all power. Please not.

There is nothing beautifuller than a ball with a lot of touch. An arobic action at the net, a delicate drop shot, a very short angle, ... etc
but defensive tennis from the baseline, no thanks.

Coria's game is a style of game. He's good at defending, we all know that. He's trying to improve his offensive game and I think he's doing quite a good job as far as I've seen, but obviously takes time taking into account he would much rather stay defending and running down every ball all day long.
But it's just like having a huge serve and FH, a style of game. And want it or not, it IS tennis. Grabbing a racquet and hitting the fuzzy yellow thingy through the other side of the net is playing tennis. :p

If you ended up losing, then your feeling was wrong. If you cannot pass the ball over the net as much as the other player does,he will win.

That's a little bit simplistic.
Federer lost to Gasquet for example. Couldn't he have felt like he is the better player of the two throughout the match?

I wonder if you feel any satisfaction if you play defensive all the time (not necessarily talking about Coria, just in general). Ok, maybe you win, but how...

If I gotta chose between winning a match but having played defensive from the baseline all the time, having done nothing with the ball, or losing, but knowing I tried something, I hit some beautiful shots, a nice dropvolley for example, my choice is easily made.

I have much more satisfaction losing but having variated my game, hit topspin, but also slice, coming to the net.... than just running down everything to win.

You have more fun playing tennis if you do something with the ball and it's also more fun to watch.
