Tuesday 19th April - Barcelona & Houston

Some thoughts from me:

* PORTAS over Chela (3.550 Pinnacle)
Albert were born in Barcelona a long time ago :) and lives there since then. In the past he won 2 challangers there. In Open Seat he is a qualifier, but didn't have much problem so far. But to be true - this bet is more an "anti-Chela" bet. Because he is completely out of form lately, but even more important is fact he will start next week in Estoril, when he won last year, so a lot of points there are to defend. SO it's hard to imagine he will treat Barcelona seriously. I believe he needs some time to practise and try to give all his best next week.

* Marc LOPEZ over Muller (2.100 Admiral)
Lopez - like Portas - were born and lives in Barcelona. He starts here since 2000 and always lost only to better players than Muller (Ivanisevic, Hewitt, Volandro, Nalbandian). Last year he played in 3rd round, while Gilles Muller never played here before. Actully this bet is more my feeling bet. I hope Lopez want to play his best before his audience.

* MALISSE over Thomas Johansson - 2nd round (1.526 Pinnacle)
They both defeated their opponents very easy and quickly in 1st round losing only 3 games. Johansson hates claycourts so it was rather surprised, but we shoudn't forget that his opponent was Koubek, who was suspended for 3 months and used this break to "cure" his legs. Malisse is much bigger obstacle, he feels very comfortable on clay, and he has here quite nice draw, what should give him some extra motivation to beat ToJo. They played 2 times so far, 2 victorie for ToJo, but both games on hard (out- and in-) and both games were close.

* VERDASCO over Ferrer (2.230 Pinnacel)
Even if it seems that Ferrer is in better shape at the moment, I'll try Verdasco here and I'm counting on Ferrer tirderness.
Barcelona is his 5th tournament in a row. He is playing week after week since Indian Wells (March 11)!!! To be true - the same with Verdasco but he simply played less games (9, while Ferrer 18 ).

* MONACO over Mirnyi (1.670 St James)
After long-awful start to new season Monaco show signs of improvement in Casablanca where lost in Final to Puerta - beating earlier quite impressive set of players: Sanguinetti, Mayer, Simon and Zib. On the other side, it's time when Mirnyi always makes poor results, and the reason for that is simply: clay and grass are both his most unliked sufaces. Especially clay - his big serve doesn't give him an important advantage here at all - as it does on faster courts.

And 2 big (?) surprises
* MONTANES over Ferrero (5.750 Pinnacle)
"Another man from Catalonia" (Montanes) who played here semifinal last year (lost to Gaudio, but earlier he beat Costa, Almagro, Martin and Calleri - a set of quite good clay-courters). During last 2 months he defeated some good clay-names: Zib, Volandri, Calleri while was beaten only by Nadal, Gasquet (2 times), Martin and Federer. His recoed from 2 last moths: 10-5.
On the other hand I'm one of those who would like to see Juanqui in Top-10 soon but he still needs more stability in his play. And true - yes he played semifinal last week, but did he beat any important name there: injuried Volandri, careless Safin, out-of-form Novak and cly-specialist Smile Karlovic? Odds worth a shot I believe

* FOGUES over Davydenko (5.600 Pinnacle)
It's simply - I like to bet against Kolya in his first game of tournament. Especially, if he is a big fav :) And Fogues showed he like to play here.

good luck with Your choices

and btw
Happy Birthday to Miss Sharapova

excellent analysis Fisherking, i shall be popping in here to check your mail from now on.
still, saying that, i did pound on the double last night FOGUES into SRICHPHAN.

tonight i can only find the good thing ramirez hidalgo to beat an aging, and one dimensional Arthurs. his serve will be negated on the slow clay, and ramirez should simply have too much talent. 1.45 is value.

in houston, surely we jump aboard the minar train. 2.75. blake is a light of other days, yes, he did come good in the past few hard court tournaments, but he dislikes clay with a passion. here for the appearance money only. minar was great in sydney, and took federer to the tightest of 3 sets in dubai.

keep them coming.

I'm not so sure Minar. Blake won last week exhibition tournament on clay in Houston beating ie Haas, while Minar easy lost to Squillari in second on Bermuda (earlier beating after hard battle such "claycourter" as Dancevic).
I'm off this game but wish You good luck.

Just the one play for me so today....

Parlaying Muller x Ventura = $2.20

04-19-2005, 05:05 AM
hidalgo/davyd parlay for me...gl all!

04-19-2005, 05:52 AM
If murray is playing today i think that he is worth a shot for 3.35 (:

04-19-2005, 06:54 AM
bg, i'm with you on Muller.

04-19-2005, 06:58 AM
Oh, and uncle Andre 1.1 feels like a extrahigh annual rate in Swiss Bank :)

04-19-2005, 07:09 AM
ok, i'm tired and decided my hidalgo/davy parlay is going to come through, and put that win (yeah right :)) on younes as a longshot - push or i lose 2 avg. bets - or hit it big and really enjoy my vacation come Wednesday!

I don't think Ramirez-Hidalgo is a good thing at all today - my one play is on Arthurs. He is in the best form of his life right now and is not that bad on clay - he did make the 4th round of the french once.

Ramirez is not going that great at the moment and at 5/2 Arthurs is worth a shot for me...

04-19-2005, 01:34 PM
I went for Malisse and Monaco to win against Tojo and the Beast respectively. Both matches are little more than 50/50 I feel.

silly silly comment.

malisse 1.5, monaco 1.6, 50/50 games would be 2.00 (or 1.90, giving bookie %)

Houston, (we have got a problem) ;)

I see here 2 nice bets - both against players who retired a lot during last few weeks.

* Against Dent - besides fact he didn't play a ball last week in exhibition in Houston (retired before game), worth mention is fact - I believe - clay is his most unliked surface.
Kevin Kim prefers faster surfaces surely, bu he also has positive record on clay, so I think his abilities will be enough for a player who didn't play a ball on clay this season in any tournamenrt.
2.500 Pinnacle

* Against Massa - since the April 1st he played 4 matches and finished only one. Vanek achieved some good results lately, so I believe he should continue against not full fit player.
1.826 Pinnacle

My Houston pick is Lapentti against Zib at 2.38.

This is a bit speculative I guess as all else being equal Zib is the superior player...but he is coming off 2 tough weeks in different parts of the world (Morocco and Bermuda), and even if he gets out of the triangle alive he has got to be a little tired now.
Lapentti is on his surface and has been better this year.

04-19-2005, 02:19 PM
Lapentti's activity in clay:

ATP: 0-2 and Challenger: 2-2 ... He not seems like a good pick for me ;)
