Special quarterfinal

Arguably the biggest victory of Sebastien Grosjean's nine ATP seasons was his four-set win over Andre Agassi in the 2001 quarterfinals at Roland Garros, the only time they have met on clay. He also beat Agassi that year in the Masters Cup round robin in Sydney, Australia.

But, otherwise, Agassi is 4-0, including an opening-round win at the U.S. Open in 1998, Grosjean's first full year on the ATP Tour. Still, the Frenchman is looking forward to today's quarterfinal for a number of reasons.

"It's always good to play against him," Grosjean said. "He's a special player and you never know if it's the last time you will play him. It's always great memories against Agassi. The guy has won everything and he's still No. 10 in the world. He prepares for every tournament because he doesn't play that many. When he comes, it's because he wants to play and he'll play his best."

Of course, Grosjean said that before Agassi committed 53 errors and went three sets against Alex Calatrava.

Grosjean, the sixth seed, had his own problems with Oscar Hernandez, but at least it enabled him to get in some extra work. This is his first event on clay this spring and, he said, "This was the first time I've played a really good clay-court player since last year, so it's not easy. I had to get to the pace, the topspin. I was in trouble at the start of the third set, but I came back and won six games in a row. That's good."

04-23-2005, 02:02 AM
YOU GO GROSJEAN!!! Keep up your confindence now!! And so far I have not heard that Bill Clinton was there so you did this you sweet thing!

04-23-2005, 02:48 AM

04-23-2005, 04:22 AM
YEAH! He made it! He really made a difference in the record vs Aggassi!
Well done! Sebbie!:bounce:

despite the bad form at the beginning of the year, seb showed ' It is what I do now really counts! '

I'm so happy that he's on the mend even if someone is making a comment that it resulted from Agassi who gave up the last two set. he had a renewal in the clay court, didn't he? :D

04-23-2005, 09:10 PM
My perfect Sunday: Juan Carlos with the singles trophy, Nadal and Lopez with the doubles and in Houston, Grosjean with the singles trophy.

Oh and Seb, love the black shirt and was glad to get to see you wear it at your doubles match in Indian Wells but I sooo miss the red and maybe you could wear that tonight. Just a thought.

04-23-2005, 09:38 PM
That's what I want too. Now I only hope that you didn't curse everyone.

04-23-2005, 10:12 PM
I'd like it too !!
Go JC and SEB !!!
my 2 favourite players who come back at the same moment....what a lovely week !!

04-23-2005, 10:20 PM
Yes, Crystal, two of the best who deserve to win and be back where they should be. And then next week in Estoril, I hope Nicolas Massu gets back to winning. And we got to get Arnaud to win more too.

04-23-2005, 11:59 PM

04-24-2005, 04:37 AM
Score: 6/1 7/6 :woohoo:

Grosjean: “I played a really good first set, and in the first game of the second set I got the break and make had a little lapse of concentration.”

(On playing Roddick) “It's not on grass. Andy already won this tournament twice, maybe it's my turn. Even if it's on clay, his serve is still big. He has a really forehand.”

04-24-2005, 04:52 AM
“maybe it's my turn” --- Grosjean

COOL!!!!! Allez Seb! It's YOUR turn to show something!!!

04-24-2005, 06:02 AM
Brilliant ! :D

04-24-2005, 08:02 AM
Looking good in black  :)
Good luck, Seb, for the finals!!!

04-24-2005, 08:04 AM
I loved his comments in the post-match interview :D. Great to see him in such a positive mood again especially means how that's not a given even when he wins. :)

Allez Seb!!!! :bounce: :bounce:

04-24-2005, 08:51 AM
yes Kathy !!! They both are so talented, they deserve more, for sure !!
hope they'll win their finals today !! IT WOULD BE SOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT !!!
yeah, a perfect week !

04-24-2005, 02:10 PM
Never selfish to hope and want the best for Juan Carlos and Grosjean. They deserve it and the game of tennis is better when they are playing their best.

And to see Grosjean smiling again like that is great. Just that he is back in a final is a victory for him. All the best to you Sebastien.

04-24-2005, 03:20 PM
Seb played a very good match against Lapentti :yeah: and the atmosphere is so relaxed that I saw him smiled several times in this match including when he slipped and also Lapentti slipped at almost the same position

Good luck to Seb in the final!!! :D will wait for your 1st trophy this year!

04-24-2005, 07:23 PM
I'd like it too !!
Go JC and SEB !!!
my 2 favourite players who come back at the same moment....what a lovely week !!

Juan Carlos didn't make it :(
So go Seb :) Make us all proud ;)

04-24-2005, 07:36 PM
Juanqui still had a great week :yeah:

Allez Seb!!!!!

04-24-2005, 08:15 PM
is anybody has an address to watch the live score for the final??

04-24-2005, 08:37 PM
yeah juanqui didn't make it but nadal is the tougher opponent at the moment so he's got an excuse... Still, a final is a great result and he's beaten good players the last 2 weeks !!
so go for it seb ! who knows...

04-24-2005, 09:43 PM
It was just nice to see you back in a final Grosjean. Keep up the confidence!

04-24-2005, 09:54 PM
Seb just did not play well today

He seemed like he was rushed and impatient. The commentators think that Roddick played "brilliantly" ( ) and all I saw was a seriously off day for Seb...

Still a great week to get to the Final so I'm still happy for him :)

04-24-2005, 09:57 PM
seb:hug: and thanks for the info tennis724, i kept hearing that andy was just brilliant, but since it was clay i found that a bit tough to believe.

04-25-2005, 03:02 AM
No problem :D. I've been biting my tongue in other threads I've read but I'm not going argue with those "other" fans :)

04-25-2005, 04:37 AM
Seb lost to Roddick... 2-6, 2-6...

Anyway Seb did a GOOD JOB, he got into the FINALS!!!

 Allez Seb!!! Go for the Roland Garros!!! :wavey:

04-25-2005, 05:10 AM
bloody roddick. why wont he go away already!!!!!

If tensions linger between the United States and France over the war in Iraq, it was never evident as Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean plowed his way through the Clay Court Championships field to reach the final against Andy Roddick.

Although the American was clearly the crowd favorite Sunday, Grosjean's best moments elicited enthusiastic cheers. Nobody seemed mad at him for having prevented a Roddick-Andre Agassi final.

"The (spectators) should pull for Roddick," Grosjean had said the night before. "In France, they would, of course, want me to win. It's the same. C'est normal."

He has lived in Miami since 1999, and his son, Tom, is an American because he was born there in 2002.

"He has lived in Miami since 1999, and his son, Tom, is an American because he was born there in 2002. "

Really hope that Tom speaks French better than English :)

04-26-2005, 05:06 AM

04-26-2005, 08:50 AM
thats a terrible article comparing andy vs seb with france/USA tension in iraq *rolls eyes* Did seb say 'c'est normal' in the middle of an english speech?? hahahah

04-26-2005, 08:56 AM
