Great fighting despite total exhaustion, Richard. :)

Good luck in the final, Nadal!

Yeah awesome match. This is one of the first matches I've seen Richard Gasquet play, and I was very very impressed with him. He's definitely another exciting talent for the future.

Tomorrow's final should be exciting too. I like Rafa, but I'd like to see Coria win....... just for those in GM who have been writing his clay season off before it really started.

Gasquet played great and even in the 3rd when he was probably not able to run he was getting bps on Rafa's serve, great run for him and he has beaten Fed as a part of it....Hope Rafa will take the tourney.

Congrats Nadal, back-to-back Masters finals... not too shabby.... :)

Well done for Gasquet, very good performance. Only the last two games were a bit too fast, for the rest of the match he was always very competetive and challenged Nadal despite having entered the match as a rather huge underdog before. Promising showing, now the interesting question will be how he will be playing in the upcoming tournaments!

Incredible, both overhyped and overrated kids did very well this week ;)

Great match!

Richard was very impressive, with a wide variety of shot-making. (The backhand is indeed beautiful) I think that he is finally beginning to be at the level that everyone thought he would be. Too bad he was tired at the end.

Rafa showed some heart and was able to pull out of his nerves. I must confess that I don't think that Rafa played this match at anywhere near the highest level I have seen him play (outside of a couple of games in the second set)...but I think that Richard was the cause of that. But, at the same time, I think that this match was important because Nadal did have to steady his nerves when they were getting the better of him, and that is a skill that one needs. I loved how happy Nadal seemed at winning the match and how joyful he was when signing the camera.

My only complaint about the match was the pack of 13 year olds who were squeling for Richard. Their high pitched shrieking about made my ears bleed.

Can't wait to see more between the two of these fellows.

Richard's backhand is just amazing

Hee. Either way, some people will be eating crow

I haven't seen the match yet - hopefully I get it on TSN after they are done showing Coria-JCF. We'll see. Until then, the best part of the match for me was seeing the two vile Rafa haters spew hateful garbage for ten pages then mysteriously dissapear when Rafa won. A big LOL at both of them

Great match! I have my new favourite! Allez Richard!! Indeed we are seeing the next
1st and 2nd in the rankings. Who´s gonna take the 1st? Nadal or Gasquet?

For me, this has been probably the best match I´ve watched this year (more than 130 according to my notes), even above that Safin-Federer.

Both kids played superb tennis and it could have gone either way. The main conclusion I take from this match is that I have the feeling Gasquet would have beaten today anyone and Nadal´s mental strentgh considering his age is just out of this world.

Thanks both kids for the great tennis match you both gave us, already looking forward for their next meeting.

PD: Now go n get some rest, Rafa, tomorrow is your day, you champ ;)

Brilliant match!! The thing is... I'm starting to like Gasquet the better, although my subconscious is keeping Nadal at the top, by now  . Anyway I am really happy for you kid (the Spanish one, I mean :D )!!!!!

But I hope Gasquet keeps playing like this. He is a little Federer-like, soooo elegant. His backhand is pleasantly killing. A beatiful weapon of mass destruction  , although when tired he starts making UE. He has nice forehand, serve and volley, so if he plays like this (I've only seen his last three matches) he may achieve anything. He really attacks as soon as he can and he seems to be very nice.

Nadal is not so elegant, although he plays very nice ;) , and has different strengths. I really have no clue which one is going to be the best in the future!!! :worship: Go up-and-comers :worship: !!

TSN isn't showing the match just yet, so I'll have to wait before making an actual-match comments.

However, I will say that I'm pleased to hear that he was lucky, for the 29th time this year, to win a match. I'm thrilled that guys keep handing them to him

Rafa! Thank GOD you won this one.
I really he wasn't going to, he blew 3 chances of serving for a set. That was dissapointing but god, it was one hell of a match.

Good luck in the finals, though I don't think I'll be cheering for any of both... I can't :sobbing:

Great work by both teenagers this week. Richard's backhand is a beautiful shot. It will be fun to watch a player who goes for his shots and hits many winners like Federer. This could develop into a great rivalry in the future and they play differently enough to make it even more exciting.

Just for you to know (not that's it's any of your business) I left the match when it was 2 all third set (or 3:2 with serve, can't remember) so your analysis of me disappearing after Rafa's win is nothing but wishful thinking.

I have no problems at all to say it again: I don't like Nadal's tennis and I hope he loses often - unfotunately for me that isn't going to happen, but this is how I feel and I owe you no explanations or apologies.

Now if you will to explode once again and throw some more of your "fuck off"s please spare it and put me on ignore.

You're just mad that Nadal is getting as much or more hype than your precious Federer, whom you only adore because he is the #1 player in the world... for the moment.

Don't pretend you dislike Nadal's "tennis," you just don't like him, or the fact that he is potentially a bigger star than Federer.

If you want on people's ignore lists, here, you can join mine! :wavey:

yes rogiman. you must only like federer because he is number 1 in the world. i mean why else could anyone like him? he seems like an awful guy and has such a crap game to watch. quick, take it all back before the princess puts you on his ignore list!

Yes, it seems daft to suggest that someone who dislikes Nadal's style would be a fan of Federer only because he is world no. 1 - if he wanted to get on the bandwagon of a player just because they were having great success, wouldn't Nadal be a pretty good choice considering how many matches he has won recently? This is an issue of game, not performance, and I can agree with Rogiman on that score at least.

Considering the fact that I never said those two things are even remotely associated makes your entire post rather moot.

I am positive that you will see Rogiman become Rafaman if Nadal reaches #1.

And what is with this FE, Rogi, Sjeng triumvirate?

At the very least he has something slightly intelligent or remotely relative to say.

I'm not part of any triumvirate, I saw two posts of yours in two threads that I happened to disagree with. I don't see anything to suggest that Rogiman is "scared" of Nadal getting as much hype as Federer. And you're contradicting yourself - he's worried about Nadal reaching the same level as Federer, but if Nadal does then suddenly he will become his biggest fan?

you suggested the only reason for liking federer is that he is the number 1 player. i was saying that he seems like a decent guy and has a great game to watch! that would seem relevant to anyone with even minimal sense, which probably explains why you deemed it irrelevant!

 @ "Rafaman". I don't think that will happen somehow, but it's still a funny thought ;)

I also don't agree with Sjengster that it's entirely a game issue. Frankly, his posts on Nadal are far too vile for it to simply be an game issue :)
