Gasquet & Nadal........OH MY GOODNESS!!....Nadal Wins!!

I can't believe the match I'm seeing. It is, I think, the best match I've seen this week. Gasquet is playing as if he is thinking, "I got through Federer, I'll get through you, Nadal". Gasquet is playing without fear, he has absolutely nothing to lose, and he is playing with that mentality. Spectacular Match!!! I really didn't think Gasquet had the ability to beat Nadal on this surface.

Nadal defeats Gasquet, or better yet, Fatigue defeats Gasquet.

This current game at 2-1 is driving me crazy... back and forth with the Ads...

But now, it's over adn Nadal broke back. This is a very hard fought match.

I think either player can win now even though I thought it would all be Nadal at first.

The French commentators are saying Richard is tired so maybe he will run out of gas and Nadal will win in three.

Nadal is playing very good tennis. Yesterday, I thought Roger played terrible tennis, but Nadal is on top of his game. They are playing on fairly equal footing with Gasquet taking a bit more risk at times.

I agree with you about how Nadal needed to bring his mental strength. He didn't play his best tennis, and before the fatigue hit Richard, Gasquet was playing wonderfuly. I am glad that Nadal was able to pull out a win when he wasn't really playing his best (and making an uncharacteristicaly large number of ue's). The ability to pull through when you aren't playing your best game is a necessary skill to be a top player imo.

Of course, some arrogant comments as expected. Yes Gasquet outplayed Nadal in 1st set and half the 2nd, and then tireness made him lose.... That´s why Nadal served twice for 1st set and fired Richard 5 games in a row in the 2nd set....

I didnt say that its his tiredness who made him loose but if he was a little bit less affected physicly he would probably hold more and yes win the match as he did against roger federer.
Rafael is a great player but he didnt impress me today against richard who made so many winners and had so many occasions in the third whereas he was really tired, so no real difference between rafael and richard except the physique.Rafael was less tired.

Yeah, I don't think he was arrogant at all. Richard played better than (=outplayed) Nadal in some moments, hitting very hard all the time. And IMO the tiredness was an important factor. Of course Nadal could have won the first set (in which Richard wasn't tired) but in the next two Gasquet hit many more UE and moved a lot worse because of all the hours of tennis in his legs.

That doesn't mean the next time Gasquet will win, because Nadal has also one hell of a game.

I think it was terribly unfair to take away Rafa's credit by saying Richie lost only because of fatigue. In Miami final, it's clear that Rafa ran out of gas in the last set but I wouldnt say he lost the match only becuz he's tired either. The thing is, in that match, Roger was tougher mentally. We all know Rafa is much more fit than Richie physically. But fitness is not all, if partly, the reason one wins a match (then Hrbarty would win every match he plays). Rafa proved in this match that he at last could hold his nerves together when it matters.

Personally, I think Richie is much better than Rafa in terms of style. He certainly has the touch like Roger has and he certainly plays beautiful tennis. I love watching how he invents shot more than I like watching Rafa. But watching Rafa is also exciting when the kid doesnt give up and finally gets the point that doesnt seem his in the first place. That is his advantage (besides physical fitness), that has made him come this far. We all know talent is not all. (Marat is a clear example) and there are reasons Hewitt was number one for such a long time without having so many weapons technically. Marat was right in saying that people were wrong when they said Hewitt doesnt have weapons, coz his mentality is the strongest weapon of all. Likewise, Rafa has his strong will (though not his nerves just yet) that a lot of times overwhelm other players. And that gives him the champion aura which makes people hold him in such high regard.

Both players played great match. In a true legendary match, the winner is as important as the defeated, for it takes two quality players to make a beautiful contest. Personally I think it's unfair and useless to excuse for Richie's loss today (in fact, it is unfair to excuse for anyone's loss). It's not like this is their last meeting in their career. They are going to meet each other in the future for several times and Richie will have time to develop his fitness and mental toughness to challenge Rafa again and probably win it next time. They BOTH are making future tennis very interesting. Not just one or the other.

I agree. Of course it wasn't totally Richard's exhaustion. Nadal fought hard in the second set. But the exhaustion was definitely a factor. Even Nadal says so.

Q. What did you do well? How did you come back from losing the first set?

RAFAEL NADAL: Yes, it's tough for me because I have 5‑4, serve, 6‑5 and serve. I'm a little bit nervous. He play very, very tough.

And after he have 2‑Love in the second set. But he miss some balls and I come back, no, and won the second set. Is very important, because in the third set I think he is little bit tired and I am with a lot of confidence for the match.

So yeah. You can't deny that it was a factor, but we shouldn't blame the loss totally on it. Nadal deserves credit for fighting to bring it to a third set.

That´s a more accurate approach, Gasquet outplayed Nadal in some games aswell as Nadal did in others, what I didn´t like is the statement "Gasquet outplayed Nadal for 1st and 1/2 set and then got tired", that´s an arrogant assumption, no doubts. You also should say Gasquet played at his very best during the first 90 mins (sth like 42 winners on 4-3 in 2nd set, really outstanding performance), you can´t play at that rythm, so deep, so strong, hitting the lines during 3 hours. Anyway congrats to Gasquet and big props to Nadal, a deserved winner yesterday in a battle I´ve the feeling any other player would have lost against a superb Gasquet.

Yep, I agree, Nadal will win this. Gasquet is tired. Funny thing is, as much as I like Nadal, I think Gasquet has earned the right to win this match. However, he is tired, and I think it's over for Gasquet.

   Am I reading right or is it a hallucination?

Yes darling:lol:  you read correctly.........then the 2006 Clay season happened.. And I still have many positives to say about Nadal......much more than many Rafatards have said about Roger. Furthermore, I had been following Nadal's career long before many of today's active Rafatards. The first time I took notice of him was when he beat Andy to win the DC for Spain. Since then, I followed his results because while I was deeply disappointed we didn't win DC, I was very impressed by Nadal's performance.

:p Give the other side of the coin Adam.........once upon a time, you showed some appreciation for Roger......but that all changed as well. A line was drawn in "the clay" during the 2006 clay season......there was no going back for many Fed and Rafatards...

Come on, he just made the semis of Wimbledon playing spectacular tennis and upsetting one of the best grass court players of the past five years. Why are Richie fans bitching? He's improving and he will have a great future. Remember that he's French and French players often take longer to develop. Honestly, I wish people on this board would cut Gasquet some slack.

this is what the french players are about... Loved and Hated. They produce some great talents, but they can never allow their skills to mature for some reason. Of course im not referring to rubbish like Monfils. Im talking about Sebastien Grosjean and Richard Gasquet.

Correction. The guy who voted us the worst fanbase is bitching. :tape:

French players loved and hated? Speaking of Richie, he's Fed's bro.

I don't think they are hated. Anyone with the slightest sense of tennis must like Fabrice's game, Grosjean's FH and Richard's BH. As for Richard and Nadal, the ranking says it all. Nevertheless, I am also waiting for a rematch between them, they have not met since 2005, which is due to the gods of draw and Richard's inconsistency. Whenever he is in good form, he ends up in Roger's half, and when he is Nadal's part of the draw, he is not good enough to stay in the tourney until a possible meeting. Given both players' age, I still think they will meet more often in the future.

That's why in MS Canada 2006 Gasquet didn't meet Nadal?!:D
Because Gasquet was in Nadal's part of draw and in good form too, but Nadal lost vs Berdych before. However it's true that destiny doesn't make meeting them.
