Sad for Safin, but really happy for Ferrero. He really needs this and I hope he builds up on this excellent tournament. he had a nice run a few weeks ago at the Nasdaq and now here at Monte Carlo. get that ranking back up JC, you don't belong so low.:)

Hm, I just saw that coming. But when Ferrero won the 1st set 6-2 I just couldn't believe it. Safin didn't help with almost 60 unforced errors (if not more), but that happened only because Ferrero kept retrieving that ball onto his side of the court. He was indeed really solid. Congrats!

yeah... even though Marat hit some of his glorious backhands dtl, JC was really there able to run down a lot, so I guess Marat was goin for too much in these shots towards the end and missed many....still, very positive Juan Carlos...thats so important for him to start to believe in his game again...

JCF did a wonderful job. He beat Safin fair and square. There were glimpses of his old self. When he broke safin that final time, he returned all of safin's first serves, there was determination on the part of jcf. Well earned victory. Congrats.

Rogiman

poor marat...

Stop calling him poor everyone!

He's a two-times GS champ and world #4, and it's time he started playing consistently well (not only at AO and TMS Paris Indoors) and stopped losing to players he should be beating on a regular basis.

People should stop calling him 'poor' and excuse his loses for his 'oafing', 'brainfarts' etc.
Being a top players means being a reliability in the SF's and finals of tournaments, not only getting the occasional win over top-players.

On the other hand, being a top player also means defeating fellow-top players every once in a while, unlike Roddick...

Thank God I'll be going to a competitive college in the fall. That will make me forget about tennis since I won't have time anyway.

Pero que bien, veo que mis buenos deseos se cumplieron. Sabia que tu podias encontrar un buen partido contra Safin. Espero que continues la buena racha, ahora es solo cuestion de seguir puliendo esa confianza que tanta falta te hacia.

Great job in defeating a tough Safin on clay, even though clay is your favorite surface. Now do as well as you can for the rest of this tournie and continue developing match toughness to give yourself some chances at Rolland Garros. ;)

I wouldn't overrate this win too much as Marat is far away from top20 since the AO. It's just his big name he carries right now. I'm surprised so many think Marat still is a top player. He only shows up at a few tournaments and that's not enough to be a top player.

That's because he's still number 4...Technically he's a TOP player.

But I agree...He's not that TOP since AO...I don't know what's wrong with him.

The only thing I know is that everything can happen...Expect the worst...But Hope for the best.

We are only at the beginning of the clay season...We'll see.
