going for a big 3 "teamer" parlay

puerta x toothless ukranian ( ) x ferrer = $4.05

ukraine was hitting his groundies against costa like a demon, looked bloody impressive for a change

if ukraine wins, and this parlay hits he may move down the pecking order of my blacklist, the least i can do is afford him the chance to make it up to me :p

Yeah I have a great feeling about Marat today!!!

My first thoughts were Gasquet "the magnificent" and Puerta and I hope they will both win but no money on them...

Vamos Ferrer
Davai Marat?

When you get a topsy-turvy game (happens all the time in the clay season:D ), odds fluctuate a lot.
So in this case you could take Gonzo @ $15 after a set down with say 10 unit
And after Gonzon squares it at 1-1 set a piece and say deuce on Feds serve you could take Fed @ $1.5 with say 100units

therefore your total outlay is
100 + 10 = 110 units
If Gonzo wins you get = 10x15 = 150units
If Fed wins you get = 100 x 1.5 = 150 units

Either way you win 40 units ;)

Yoda, can you not just do that on any bet-in-running with an online bookies, like William Hill? Or is it for some reason better doing it on Betfair?

And what do you do, if you take Gonzo 10 units at $15 when he's a set down, and then Federer is like $1.1 and doesn't drop a set?

yeah you can....it's just that betfair have the better odds.
also its a risk because to make money you have to always go for the losing player to get best odds for him.

so there's a risk involved like in most wagers.

If Gonzo is @ $15 then Fed will more likely be @ $1.04 or less.....so you can't just pound both

Ah I understand... so if for example, Gonzo is a set and a break down to Fed, and consequently at about $15, you would put a bit on Gonzo, hoping that he'd come back?

Ok... would somebody mind explaining to me how this 'lay' stuff works?

People keep saying 'lay off this, and lay off that" etc...

bad gambler
04-14-2005, 09:10 PM
when you "lay" you are efectively acting as the bookie

i can lay $5k gaudio to you against nadal at say $1.80 - that means you have the opportunity to back gaudio at $1.80 for $5k

bad gambler
04-14-2005, 09:11 PM
when i lay off some one, i basically hedge my bets - that's when i use that term

bad gambler
04-14-2005, 09:13 PM
this is how betfair runs - its effectively an exchange as opposed to a bookie - they earn income via commissions that both the "layer" and the "backer" pay for each transaction - that's the main downside of betfair IMO

no, you can back $1 if you really want, it just means $4,999 of my lay will be unmatched until the markets picks it up.
