Well done Igor!!
Saw you last year in Gstaad (some may remember my reports where I pointet out his forehand and his fighting qualities) and finally the hard work payed off.

04-10-2005, 02:50 PM
Well done Igor! :D

I must admit I thought he would fade away after blowing the second set. Excellent effort to jump right back at Ferrer in the decider.

04-10-2005, 02:51 PM
These two played like two girls. Breaking each other in every second game. I wish Andreev didn't fail to serve out the match, doing it like a man. Still a good start. Time to start doing well in Slams..

Igor Andreev is turning into one of those mystery players. Is he another of these hot young Russians, like Davydenko and Youzhny, or is he another Russian nut case?

Of course, those two descriptions are not mutually exclusive. He's had some very good results -- last year, he beat Ancic at Scottsdale and Joachim Johansson at St. Poelten and Ferrero at Roland Garros and Agassi at Queen's and Schuettler at Gstaad (where he made the final); he also made it to the final of Bucharest, and he beat Vince Spadea at Moscow.

On the other hand, he had twelve first round or qualifying losses, and he managed at one time or another to lose to Olivier Patience and Nicolas Mahut and Marc Lopez and Tomas Zib and Lukasz Kubot (ahem!) and Rogier Wassen (ahem! again) and Gilles Muller.

This year, be beat Costa at Sydney and Monfils at Marseille and Pavel at Miami, but he has lost to Behrend at Milan and twice in a row to Ferrero at Indian Wells and Miami.

Confused yet? All we can say is, you'd have to give us some pretty incredible odds before we'd bet on Andreev either way.

congrats Igor ;)

Well done to Igor Andreev on winning his first ATP Tour title. :) Is Andreev now ready to be the #2 Russian Davis Cup player?

Hopefully Igor can carry on this form into Monte Carlo.

04-10-2005, 05:35 PM
Pretty much what I expected.

I didn't watch the stats tracker, but I assume Andreev's serve bailed him out.

Ferrer had been playing well so it wasn't going to be easy, but Igor had the goods to put away the Spaniard.

Well done, Igor "Killer" Andreev!

You assume wrong NAT, they both had problems holding serve and Andreev served for the match in the 2nd set and took the match on a break of serve. It was a breakathon in reality.

04-10-2005, 05:39 PM
Clay usually has that WTA effect where it's all baseline and angles.

In that case, you'd have to give Andreev more credit taking down the Spaniard.

Not at all. You do know the basic rule on clay? It's not just serving that wins matches. :p

If not for you, I wouldn't know forehand from forefinger. :silly:

Woudn't that be forehead instead of forehand?

04-10-2005, 05:59 PM
That's a foregone conclusion.

That's a foregone conclusion.

Igor needs to forge ahead to make your forgone conclusion come true.

Very good week for Igor. I figured he would win a clay tournament this year, but I didn't know it would be so soon. I figured it would perhaps be later on, Sopot/Palermo-ish. Now hopefully Hrbaty can beat Ferrer in Monte Carlo like he should!

04-11-2005, 01:34 AM
Congrats Igor. :) Seems like it was a hard fought match.
